03.01.2022 It is a common misconception in Football that FUN and LEARNING are mutually exclusive Seventy percent of all children playing youth sports at the age of 10,... which is the #1 age for participation in the country, quit by the time they are 13. People like to say they have other interests, but the data points to three main reasons: 1. They are not having fun 2. Too much pressure from coaches and parents to win 3. Lack of playing time I’ve heard statements from people like we don’t want the sessions to be all fun stuff. I’m of the opinion that I cannot make my sessions fun enough! Having fun and enjoying what you are doing does not have to interrupt with the learning process. Our focus will be centred around: Technical: -Using all parts of the foot and body to bring the ball under control -Body Shape when receiving the ball (receiving the ball on the back foot and on the turn) -Taking a positive first touch out your feet and receiving the ball facing forwards when possible -Scanning for space and moving into it to receive the ball -Decision making. Using first touch to set up shot or pass -Keeping and open body shape Tactical: -Movement and communication -Changing the tempo of the play (speeding up/slowing down play) -Shape in Ball Possession/Ball Possession Opposition -Using combination play to draw opposition out of position and then exploit the space created.
