16.01.2022 Get Walking! Its nearly Spring, a great time to get more active. A free and easy way to do this is walking. Walking has many health benefits, is easy on your joints and you dont need to go to the gym, just wear a comfortable, supportive pair of shoes. Firstly, consult a health care professional before you begin any type of exercise. The rate you begin walking will depend of your physical capabilities. Walking benefits not just your leg muscles but your whole body health, it tones and conditions, helps you lose weight and feel better. 12.01.2022 Feeling Giddy? Dizzy? Spinning? The most common cause of Vertigo (Dizziness) is a condition called BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). It is estimated that up to one third of the population over 70 will experience at least one episode of BPPV, it can also affect younger people. BPPV is caused by the dislodgement of tiny calcium carbonite crystals (otoconia) in the semi-circular canals of the ear. People with BPPV will experience vertigo, and sometimes nausea an...d vomiting, with even a simple change of direction, bending or rolling over in bed. The good news is that it can be easily and simply diagnosed and treated by our physiotherapists at Kilkenny Physiotherapy Clinic. A test called the Hallpike test can determine which ear is affected, and a quick and painless technique called the Epley manoeuvre is very effective in treating and correcting the condition. This technique resolves the dizziness in over 80% of cases after just one treatment and there is no need for any follow-up or exercises. If you, or someone you know, is experiencing dizziness it may be caused by BPPV so call Kilkenny Physiotherapy Clinic on 08 8345 4234 for an appointment. See more
