24.01.2022 Despite the weather....spring!

24.01.2022 The glorious Cassia trees at Kilkivan Museum are an adornment to the Main Street - just in time for Christmas travellers!

22.01.2022 And this magnificent vista is accompanied by drops on the roof!!!! ...which disappeared 3 minutes later... but the view is even better now?!

22.01.2022 The 3 stages of dragon fruit - buds, flowers & ripe fruit! Plus a bee frenzy!

22.01.2022 How lucky are the seniors of Kilkivan & District?! A collaboration between the State Archives & Griffith Uni, along with Kilkivan & District Community Care Assn Inc Is bringing a Memory Lounge activity to Kilkivan on January 20...COVID-permitting.... please share if you have friends in the Kilkivan, Tansey, Goomeri & Woolooga area.

21.01.2022 The reward for getting out into the garden early!! The obsession continues....

21.01.2022 The utterly glorious late afternoon light after 13 mls of rain....

21.01.2022 Noosa Main Beach is less than two hours away from Kilkivan...aren’t we lucky?!

20.01.2022 Congratulations to the KGHR members for organising a terrific parade for the 2021 Kilkivan Great Horse Ride today. Loved especially seeing a good contingent of carriages, and the tiny dynamos full of horse power!!

20.01.2022 Forgive my bias & focus....just watched my darling Lucinda on Sunrise ... talking about RACQ’s response to the catastrophic storm damage on Saturday. But Pirate wasn’t all that interested?!...

20.01.2022 Liquid heat at 6.05pm this evening.

19.01.2022 Today’s feature Kilkivan shop for doing your Xmas present buying is Kilkivan Rural Traders! Lots of collectibles in this treasure trove too....for both males & females! More proof that we can all shop really local?!

19.01.2022 The Bligh Street stroll of businesses continues with another two friendly outlets which make life for both locals and travellers so much better!! Kilkivan Auto, under the direction of Gail (who was run off her feet when I called by today!), keeps our vehicles running smoothly and soothes troubled travellers who love being in RACQ! Next door is our town’s newest Main Street outlet: the chemist! Nicole is there most days to take the hassle out of getting prescriptions filled. Locals are loving this convenience (judging by the queue I stood in recently!!) and I know a few of my guests have been glad to learn of this additional service. There are also gifts available here too!

19.01.2022 Sunsets after a heatwave are always a spectacle!

18.01.2022 The great new year in the garden continues: this Euodia shrub is looking so gorgeous at the moment - loaded with these bright pink blooms!

18.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who’s contacted me since our Community Care segment aired again at 2pm today on House of Wellness! We all appreciate your encouragement. If you missed it, watch this small clip or tune in to Channel 7’s House of Wellness on Sunday - they are repeating it at noon!! (So grateful for this awesome media support!)

17.01.2022 I found myself back where the shopping stroll started 2 weeks ago...and the display had got even better!! Just had to snap some photos as well as buy a little girl some pink Xmas gifts!!! Don’t wait til December to shop here at the Kilkivan Craft Shop - am sure there’ll be none left by then!!

17.01.2022 It was delightful to have Kim & Adrian Glasscock from near Bundaberg stay last night! With Adrian as her support person, Kim is taking the Great Cycle Challenge to raise funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute. Kim has set herself an 800 kilometre target, and is aiming to raise $2000 as she rides to fight kids’ cancer. And if you’re on the Kilkivan to Kingaroy Rail Trail today, give her an encouraging hello - she is wearing an anti-magpie helmet so can be easily identified!!

17.01.2022 Ready to keep strolling along Kilkivan’s shopping strip to discover more retail gems?!?! Let’s call in first to the most iconic building in town - the Kilkivan Hotel! Try an icy-cold beverage, order a top pub lunch or dinner and enjoy the vibe of a true country pub. Just down the road a little is Julie’s Cafe, known for its great coffee and homemade pies, which can be enjoyed in air-conditioned, stylish surrounds. We’ll finish today’s shopping trip by picking up some treasures at Kilkivan Antiques, a veritable Aladdin’s cave of desirables...a gift for everyone on your Xmas list?! Just one more retail outlet on this side of the street to start the next high street crawl with in a couple of days! See you then! Please SHARE to spread the word and support our town's businesses!! :)

16.01.2022 QUT academics Amanda Beatson & Udo Gottlieb have just completed their second weekend of in-depth interviews with locals. Hosted by Kilkivan & District Community Care Assn, they used Creekbend as their base as they spoke with people from Kilkivan, Goomeri & Woolooga. Their findings will be made available to locals early in 2021.

15.01.2022 Just a quick dash out today to a one-stop shop for fresh fruit & veg + honey: John The Pineapple Man at the end of Bligh Street just before you take the bend on your way to Tansey or GOOMERI! I have already sampled the sweet little roughie pineapples and the big red tomatoes - superb!! This is the shop well-loved by the jam & chutney-making crowd too! See you on the weekend for a shop stroll on the northern side of big, beautiful Bligh (Boulevard) Street?!

13.01.2022 It’s Monday morning...so that calls for Nutella and banana pancakes!

13.01.2022 A grey day is always improved by a yellow flower?!

11.01.2022 The Fat Hen Creek crossing on Bular Road this morning!

11.01.2022 A beautiful spring morning!

10.01.2022 Pirate & I have really enjoyed having Gay & Keith from Miami on the Gold Coast stay for the last two nights! They really got into exploring the local attractions, checking out Mudlo National Park, the Museum, the Rail Trail, and almost every shop! Loved their infectious enthusiasm!

10.01.2022 Christelle & Amelie from Brisbane left Kilkivan this morning on the Rail Trail - planning to cycle all the way to Wulkuraka near Ipswich! They were lovely company and we wish them a wonderful adventure!!

09.01.2022 Nothing is as beautiful as Spring?!?! The petunias & Feverfew flower for months and the brand new leaves on the Kurrajong are so luscious.

09.01.2022 It’s Kilkivan Great Horse Ride this weekend! Our wonderful guest & friend from Melbourne, Frank, left the B&B this morning to join a trail. A gorgeous day for a ride. See you in the Main Street later, Frank & Cougar!

07.01.2022 33 degrees in Kilkivan today....the lunch club found themselves a cool spot close to my water trough...

07.01.2022 Meet my favourite kangaroo, Natalie (as in Imbruglia - due to her torn ear!). She & her youngster are in the house yard at some stage most days, enjoying clean water & fresh greens....such beautiful beings.

06.01.2022 Today is Restart a Heart Day. Heart attacks kill. Only one in 10 people survive a heart attack. But knowing how to do CPR and having access to a defibrillator improves the odds significantly. (I recently got myself a little up to speed and now understand why defibrillator access is so vital.) Check out World Restart a Heart Day for info.

06.01.2022 It’s gonna be a bright, bright sunshiney day?!

05.01.2022 One of the treasures of our district is CC’s kitchen/Petersen’s Farm just outside Woolooga. Their 6th Big Rosella Festival is on May 1st & 2nd. Gotta put that on your bucket list?!

05.01.2022 The things you see in Hill Street....(okay - only occasionally!!)

04.01.2022 Sunflowers for Seniors!! Out the front of Kilkivan General Store - while they last!! (The cattle are eating the rest!!) Donations to Kilkivan & District Community Care Assn Inc. (some buds which may work for Valentine’s Day?!)

04.01.2022 So the shop local shopping stroll continues this morning along the beautiful wide Bligh Street in Kilkivan...we are blessed to have an award-winning butcher whose bacon, ham & beer sticks are familiar to my b&b guests! One one side of the butcher is the Post Office with a surprising array of gift lines & the adjoining Cash for Containers operation which appeals to the many committed recyclers! On the other side is the quirky Choate’s Curios selling a great range of hand-made gifts. No need for locals to leave town for Xmas presents - and we’ve got yet more fabulous outlets to feature in later posts!! Keep sharing, please - buy local makes so much sense, doesn’t it!?

03.01.2022 Celebrating Kilkivan’s oldest resident (we think): Winston Coates turned 93 last Friday! Congratulations to him - and the other nonagenarians in our community!

03.01.2022 Can you hear this?!?! Later: I got 64mls!! Woohoo!!

03.01.2022 So yesterday’s breakfast was the Great Green & Red Face Off between two gorgeous birds, the Red-Winged Parrot & the King Parrot. This manoeuvring contest went on for about 20 minutes...with a couple of Doublebars flitting in and out between spats.

02.01.2022 With Christmas about 2 months away, and many very wary of crowded shopping precincts, it’s a great time to showcase the wonders of Kilkivan’s Main Street! The diversity and quality of what’s on offer in our small town is amazing. Let me walk you down this shopping strip so you get the picture. In today’s post, the focus is on Kilkivan General Store and the adjacent craft shop. Quality foodie items and very creative Xmas decor items are the stars! More feature shops over the next week! Please share to promote our wonderful town!

02.01.2022 The things you see in Kilkivan! Spotted this convoy slipping off the Rail Trail this afternoon....

02.01.2022 To all Kilkivan residents, young & older: PLEASE COMPLETE the SURVEY being delivered to you mailbox/letterbox this week. Your opinion is vital to our efforts to get a community care project underway. If you don’t receive the survey by the end of the week, please ask at the Kilkivan Post Office for a copy.

01.01.2022 It’s been delightful to have Wendy & Grant from both Brisbane & the Mary Valley stay for the last two nights. We so enjoyed sharing stories over a glass of rich red!

01.01.2022 There’s something divine going on in that cloud?!

01.01.2022 We have to settle for still photos of the RAIN! I was going to post a video but you may not enjoy the soundtrack of the barking Dalmatian!! (Pirate gets a tad excited by lightning & thunder....) Doesn’t worry these Apostle birds though...

01.01.2022 Happy new year to everyone who follows this page! 2021 is off to a great start: masses of dragonfruit flowers teeming with bees desperately getting their fill before these gorgeous flowers close for good by about 8am! Have a great year, everyone!

01.01.2022 Sky shots just now...
