25.01.2022 Next training night- 1st May 6:30pm

25.01.2022 Killarney RFB assisted the Killarney Fire and Rescue crew today at a hay shed fire at Loch Lomond. An urban fire crew from Warwick and a rural fire brigade water tanker also attended along with QPS and QAS. No one was injured and while the hay will likely smolder for several days the the initial fire was quickly brought under control. Stay safe everyone. Fires can happen anywhere anytime.

24.01.2022 As we head towards the weekend the predicted fire danger levels are VERY HIGH for Friday and Saturday and lowering to HIGH for Sunday. While there is a slight reduction in the danger rating, its not a time for complacency regarding fire. We ask that everyone remains vigilant with their use of fire and to report any smoke and signs of fire to 000. Here is what a VERY HIGH and HIGH fire danger mean: HIGH... A fire with a 'high' danger rating is a fire that can be controlled, where loss of life is unlikely and damage to property will be limited. During a fire with a 'high' danger rating, you should know where to get more information and monitor the situation for any changes. VERY HIGH A fire with a 'very high' danger rating is a fire that can be difficult to control, with flames that may burn into the tree tops. During a fire of this type, some homes and businesses may be damaged or destroyed. During a fire with a 'very high' danger rating, you should use your home as a place of safety only if it is well-prepared and well-constructed. Stay safe

22.01.2022 Killarney and District Rural Fire Brigade AGM will be on 15th August this year. It is a Saturday, we will have a BBQ lunch and then the meeting afterwards. If you have any interest in the brigade, please come for a look. Bring the kids, we will feed them and show them around the fire trucks and equipment. If you have any questions, we can answer them. The brigade was flat out last year and early this year, but have been very quiet lately. We usually help out at many events which have all been cancelled this year, but will be back bigger than ever next year. All equipment and training is free and you are a volunteer, so there is no obligation imposed upon you.

21.01.2022 Sorry no announcement about training last night, I expected to be on deployment in ACT, but was not needed. Our two new members Libby and Wayne accompanied me on a drive through the crossings and I am pleased to report that they all had water.

20.01.2022 Congratulations to our newest member Gary Carr passing his 'Fire Fighter Minimum Skills Course' today. Gary is now a qualified rural fire fighter. AND he found time to help rescue a magpie from the front of a car at Warwick on the way to his course. Well done Gaz

20.01.2022 Killarney Rural Fire Brigade will be on duty at the Bonfire Night. We do this voluntarily to ensure the night goes well. Due to a shortage of local members, we ask neighbouring brigades for their assistance. If you would like more information about becoming a member, please ask on the night.

20.01.2022 Had a few big days up at Swanfells. Fire is pretty much inaccessible, just trying to protect houses. This will go on for a long time.

19.01.2022 There may not be training at the moment, but I the monthly checks still had to be done. Both vehicles went out once in March, though the Ranger was for its yearly service and roadworthy. Also did the checks on the Defrib. Any members taking the 51 out, please note I have the ctek on the pump battery.

19.01.2022 Killarney RFB joined forces with Dalveen RFB Thursday night for some hands on training and assisted a Dalveen landholder with a permitted burn. New member Gary Carr got stuck into his training with the drip torch, high and low pressure hoses and learning about the set up on different fire fighting trucks. Great training night with great people.

19.01.2022 A bit of action from Massie Brigade

18.01.2022 A big thank you to all those who have nominated Killarney district RFS as their co-op loyalty points beneficiary. Today we received a gift voucher for $25 from the co-op which is greatly appreciated and goes towards purchasing goods and supplies to aid our firefighters. It is community support like this that helps our volunteers continue to serve our wonderdul district. And of course thank you to Killarney co-op for supporting us via this initiative.

18.01.2022 A great day at the Killarney community markets today. Libby, Thorpey and Darren mixed it up with many locals and visitors. These funds and wonderful support enable us to continue our service to the community THANK YOU

16.01.2022 TGIF.......and as we head into the weekend please be aware that the current fire danger for both Saturday and Sunday is VERY HIGH. It is a dangerous time as things are so dry so please be very careful and report any smoke or signs of fire. Stay safe and have a great weekend

16.01.2022 A bit of light relief from the Fire Service.

16.01.2022 With the announcement of positive cases of Covid-19 in Killarney, we should remember the be alert, not alarmed advice. This is serious and the social distancing needs to be adhered to. Try to stay home as much as possible, and avoid physical interaction. Those of us who have to go to work would like to stay well for as long as possible, and the vulnerable in our society need the best chance they can. All emergency services are still operating and will be there to give assistance if needed, but again, we need your co-operation to maintain this service. Stay safe people; instead of shaking hands, bump elbows, tap feet or my favourite:- the Vulcan hand sign and Live long and prosper. This is not an official QFES message, this is just the musings of a secretary.

15.01.2022 Two new members to be inducted Wednesday night.

14.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came and said hello at the Bonfire night!! We had a great time and it is awesome to be part of an event that adds so much to our community. Didnt get the chance to take photos myself, but the official Killarney Bonfire night page has plenty along with Whats on in Killarney. ( I did see myself on the news, thats always special) Training this Month will be on Wednesday the 7th, 6:30pm. I would like to encourage anyone interested to turn up. There is... no obligation or cost. Our AGM will be held later this month, we will do it on the weekend and put on a barbecue lunch for anyone who wants to come. Will advise date when I know.

14.01.2022 Thanks to the RFBAQ for providing this. It will be a big help in areas where there is no phone signal.

14.01.2022 I am sure no-one is unaware of the current situation. The QFES has suspended all training, education and community engagement. We will still turn out to fires.

14.01.2022 Training next Wednesday 3/6 at 6.30pm. Have new members, will be going through equipment and usage. May adjourn to weekend if it is too cold.

There is no threat to property at this time. This fire is no longer affecting the Spicers Peak Lodge area. If you feel your property is under threat, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

12.01.2022 Training next Wednesday at 6:30. Have had enquiries from a few people wanting to become members, hope to see them there. Our brigade has been active at both the Head fire and the Swanfells fire, so hopefully our first officer will be able to give us an insight into these incidents.

12.01.2022 Hello all you good people, the Fire Danger Rating for the weekend remains at VERY HIGH but with warm weather predicted, the very little moisture we have in grass and vegetation may dry out further and with a bit of wind we could see a rise in danger rating. Please be careful with all uses of fire and if there is any wind err on the side of caution and don't burn. Better to wait than to have a fire get out of control. Stay safe and have a great week end.

12.01.2022 We have changed our monthly training night to the second Wednesday of every month starting next week 10 November. 09.01.2022 Greetings wonderful people of Killarney and district. As we head into another weekend we have a little reprieve as far as fire danger goes with the rating high on Saturday and dropping to low moderate on Sunday, BUT....always a BUT......please be mindful that until this cloudy weather stops teasing us and we get rain things are VERY dry and it only takes the slightest spark from machinery, slashing etc or a wind change to turn a permitted controlled burn into an emergency. We are always looking for new recruits to join our team. If you are interested or know of somebody who is please contact us through here or call Wayne on 0433 368 863. Its more than just putting wet stuff on the hot stuff....

09.01.2022 RFS crews from killarney, wild ash, freestone, massie and auxillary fire fighters tackled a grass and bush fire today on a property at orchard lane, loch lamond. Crews were at the fire ground for about 4 hours and brought several fire fronts under control. Great work by all involved.

03.01.2022 Local fire ban for residents in South East Region Friday, 27 November 2020 7:45 AM Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) has imposed a local fire ban for South East region residents. The local fire ban will be in place from 00.01am Saturday, 28 November for residents in the Logan, Scenic Rim, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Gold Coast areas.... Current and upcoming fire conditions are perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly. Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated areas have been cancelled. Fires lit for the purpose of cooking or providing warmth are allowed however must be used within a proper constructed vessel (such as barbeque, pizza oven, fire pit) where the fire cannot escape or cause embers to drift. The use of power tools may be used during a local fire ban however QFES encourages people to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start. This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur. The ban is expected to remain in place until 11.59pm Wednesday, 2 December. Information on fire bans and the exemptions that can apply can be found on the RFS website, www.ruralfire.qld.gov.au.
