23.01.2022 Pregnancy Massage... why is it so hard to find? In addition to studying the Diploma of Remedial Massage Therapy, you also need a separate and equally important qualification in Pregnancy Massage to be a provider of this sacred treatment. I studied with @pregnancymassageaustralia at the beginning of 2020 whilst pregnant myself and was amazed at the amount of misinformation I’d heard prior to studying, with It’s not safe to have pregnancy massage in your first trimester bei...ng the most common Pregnancy massage is completely safe throughout the entirety of your pregnancy PROVIDED your therapist is fully qualified to do so; cost and time away from being a provider are huge contributors to why most therapists don’t go on to specialise in this area, plus I’ll-informed fear-mongering from both the provider and the consumer that it could potentially cause more harm than good. It is my understanding that businesses providing this misinformation are turning women in their first trimester away because it is THEY who do not feel safe to provide the service, not the other way around With that being said, at last google search, I think there were only 2-3 therapists in Newcastle who specialise in this treatment and are understandably booked well in advance. I am so pleased to be amongst this niche crowd of providers but am equally disappointed by the fact there are so few of us. Pregnancy is NOT niche and it’s a time of a woman’s life where she absolutely needs and deserves that physical and emotional support In my next post I’ll be sharing all about the benefits of pregnancy massage - stay tuned!

21.01.2022 Sunday self-care hot tip Pimp your bath by adding magnesium or Epsom salts and some pure essential oils like lavender or ylang ylang for the ultimate relaxation effect Don’t have a bath? Get your hands on some magnesium oil instead for your tired, aching muscles. The body best absorbs magnesium through the skin and we can never be in a surplus of the stuff; excellent for down-regulating the nervous system ... May your week be as beautiful as this picture

19.01.2022 Cheers to the long weekend Happy Easter to all my beautiful clients and their families. Stay safe this weekend, wherever you are We will be in the studio today and Monday as per usual - self care doesn’t care that it’s a public holiday!

18.01.2022 Neck + shoulders + thoracic spine flow Our next post will be about one of our new services, the Training Plan. A point of difference is that you’re not just going to see the typical Strength & Conditioning or Rest Days, you’ll see beautiful moments of breath work, meditation and stretch flows (just like this one) to support your mental health and wellness just as much as the physical This one is for my desk workers, pregnant women and new mummas, people regularly training, or for those who just want to wring out some Easter choccy energy!

16.01.2022 Who’s loving the addition of the warm towels? Whatever the weather, warmth is the ultimate mover of Qi (pronounced chi) in CTM practices, helping to rid the body of toxins during and after your treatment so you feel healthier, lighter and more in kilter. This is one traditional practice I’ve been so happy to integrate into our massage treatments What do you think?

16.01.2022 New service Pregnancy Massage It has been so exciting to share this hour with my beautiful mamas-to-be to help them connect to their bodies, their mindset and (most importantly) their baby Safe from day 1 of pregnancy, you can rest assured that you will receive any or all of the following benefits:... lowers Mother’s heart rate lowers stress and anxiety reduces oedema (swelling) of the limbs improved sleep quality increases production and release of serotonin and oxytocin (the happy hormones), reducing perception of pain and tension alleviates muscular tension, body aches, stiff joints, restricted mobility and pain helps with proprioception and adjusting to physical changes to the Mother’s body and centre of gravity supports the Mother to relax and take stock of how her and baby are feeling provides the Mother with a range of tools to support her body throughout her entire pregnancy Tag a Mumma-to-be in this post, or better yet, book her in for a well-deserved treatment

14.01.2022 What does low-tox even mean? To minimise your exposure to harmful chemicals; low in toxins. At Kilter, and in my own personal skin care routine and home, I am moving on an imperfect journey towards only using toxin-free products. Becoming a Mum and wanting to make sure I lowered Florence’s toxic load was a supercharger behind this effort. Personally, I’ve made these changes gradually over time, researching and supporting local and Australian businesses wherever I can, and a... huge compass and guiding light on this journey has been Em @slowskinco. First, you have to wrap your head around the concept of green washing and the marketing terms that make you think you’re making a better choice when in fact they’re no different to the chemically loaded alternative! Head to Em’s page or read @muktiorganics book for further research, and I encourage you to do your own! Start with something small, like a single category of your life or single product at a time In the studio, I use organic coconut oil; a medium-chain triglyceride saturated fat which nourishes the skin topically and when ingested. It doubles as a skin moisturiser, as well as a massage oil, which is guaranteed to do no harm Instead of burning candles which are often made from toxic wax and wicks and release carcinogenic soot, I diffuse 100% organic and pure essential oils by Young Living Australia or Eco Store Australia I also sparsely use artificial lighting in the studio. I allow as much sunlight into the room whilst maintaining privacy, and only heat the room using an infrared heater which is more energy efficient than other sources and, most importantly, safe for you to be exposed to KILTER is a brand that cares about more than how your body moves. Toxin-free, natural, safe and restorative

12.01.2022 Loving local There was no time like last year to really get to know your local community, and I don’t mean in the broader Newcastle sense but specifically your own suburb Now we can venture far and wide again (sort of), I don’t want to do away with the important sentiment of supporting and loving my local village when it so beautifully held space for me. So, in no particular order, here are my favourite local businesses near Kilter:... @wildvinecoffee for all our coffee and @amaseballs treats @slowskinco the only low-toxin beauty therapist going round! @nextgenphysio for the best sports and lifestyle Physio’s in town with recovery facilities @the_concept_sdc the best and friendliest gym in town that houses CrossFit, women’s only classes, boxing, yoga, ice baths, saunas, spa, a cafe AND the best crèche ever! @femalefocusphysiotherapy for my ladies - Erin is your go-to for prenatal and post-partum Physiotherapy (she can come to your home or see you @infuse_health) and exercise classes for Mums & Bubs @savantapothecary locally made toxin-free skin, hair and beauty care that looks and smells divine @adamstownbowlo for that Friday after-5 vibe Tag your favourite local businesses below!

12.01.2022 There’s something magic about the energy that comes on the precipice of a new year. It’s time to release 2020 and welcome 2021 When Kilter re-opens from Monday 15th February, I will be expanding the service offerings to include: Health, Lifestyle and Mindset Coaching (4 x 1 hour weekly session package) Nutrition Plans (14 day)... Training Plans (6 weeks) More details will be released over the coming weeks, but in the meantime if you have any questions DM, text or email them through to [email protected] We believe in balance year round, but what better time to regain your sense of equilibrium than now. Always ask yourself... if not now, then when?

10.01.2022 WE ARE HIRING Are you, or someone you know, an aspiring remedial massage therapist looking for casual work? We are seeking someone for regular, predictable hours on Monday and Friday afternoons to commence ASAP Enquire within or email your resume and cover letter to [email protected]

05.01.2022 New service Health & Lifestyle Coaching This one is a personal favourite to be able to finally deliver. I’ve poured 8 years of my intellectual property into curating the blueprint and love that it can be adapted to each individual to help meet their health, lifestyle and mindset needs Whether it was in the disability sector, mental health sector, fitness/wellness industry or in my own personal life, the areas that were coming up in the latest research as being integral... to our overall health didn’t seem to be being talked about or addressed by the wellness industry. We talk about sleep hygiene, rest + recovery, mindset, lifestyle choices, attitude towards nutrition and training, and so much more If you feel confident you have the determination and willpower to execute the nutrition and training plan without support then those services are perfect for you. But if you feel like you constantly find the same lessons showing up for you, want more emotional and psychological support and guidance on your health and wellness journey, or simply haven’t thought to address the aforementioned areas before... then THIS is the service for you Together, we meet virtually or face-to-face for 1 hour for 4 consecutive weeks. It is broken down and delivered in easily digestible categories with a reflection journaling prompt to complete after each session. The following week allows you enough time to slowly and thoughtfully apply the teachings and the space to come back with questions, but also not so long that the focus and passion for change starts to wain If you feel like this is the right service for you or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to DM or email!

02.01.2022 New Service Nutrition Plan This has been a popular new addition to Kilter’s service offerings. A simple, individualised approach that sets you on the path to a more loving, sustainable relationship with food What’s included:... - 14 Day Plan with Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Snack Ideas - Snack Suggestions - Shopping List - Top Tips for Success This is really designed to be a springboard into a more intuitive, meaningful relationship with what’s on your plate and cut the angst around navigating buzz words, dieting trends and the grocery store. I feel so passionately about removing the confusion and love/hate feelings with something we have to do AT LEAST three times a day, every day, for the rest of our lives and is as natural as breathing. There’s such a dissonance between what we eat and how we feel and function, and it’s time we put ourselves back in the driver’s seat This should not be confused for or used in replacement of the professional support of a nutritionist or dietician; please seek specialist support for anything more detailed or where more complex medical history and pathologies need to be accounted for
