23.01.2022 *The Felixer Fest* What better way to celebrate a brighter future for our wildlife, plants and the community than with the Felixer Fest. A community festival, a song and dance and a very unique gourmet BBQ lunch! This mosaic showcases eleven native Australian species found in the Kimba region. ... Several of these species like the sandhill dunnart, malleefowl and chalky wattle are endangered by predation by feral cats and foxes, clearance of native habitat and/or overgrazing by overabundant kangaroos and introduced rabbits and goats. This community artwork however illustrates a rare scene of these precious species depicted larger than life, gathering to celebrate change. Exciting, positive change brought about by passionate members of the Kimba and wider Eyre Peninsula communities who are dedicated to helping these rare plants and animals by removing their threats. Along with the invention of the Felixer - a novel automated tool to control feral cats and foxes - locals are improving management of pests, weeds and fire and fencing areas to re-establish native habitat. Mosaic of Kimba’s Iconic Species - Community Public Art Project; Art & Nature Entwined Designed and created by Karen Carr and assisted by the community of Kimba as part of the Kimba Art Prize & Exhibition 2019. 10.01.2022 Only four sleeps to go until we officially unveil this mosaic masterpiece, Kimba’s newest piece of public art! After amazing community workshops led by the indomitable Karen Carr, this black and white sketch - pictured at the beginning of the journey a few short months ago - is now a fully-fledged shot of living colour, celebrating our native flora and fauna and the need to conserve it... all the more poignant after the Secret Rocks conservation area was impacted by fire over... the summer. The Kimba Community Development Group operates a volunteer program for grey nomads, harnessing extra volunteer power and diverse skill sets for our great little town... how good is that?! On the bright side, as of Tuesday 31 March you'll be able to get on down to Workshop26 each Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10:00am - 4:30pm, and Sundays from 9:00am - 1:00pm.
