21.01.2022 These past few months I have been working silently on my own direction and purpose. For most of my yoga career, I have followed the ‘rules’, ‘traditions’ and ‘processes’ becoming of a yoga teacher. What I have discovered is that at this point, I no longer thrive in these conditions. They were necessary for me to develop a practice and indeed, teach others safely but now, I choose freedom to create, express and share in a way that feels right for me. My path has been full of... healing and unlearning, rebuilding and rediscovering and so far it has been both the hardest and most rewarding experience. I have gathered resources, made ALL of the mistakes and worn my healing on my sleeve, knowing that relationships, friendships, views, values and my faith would be placed in a rigorous transmutation. I have become more aware of my inner desire to practice a little differently, with more integrity to my own unique path. So I would like to introduce you to Kimbalini Yoga. A fusion of the various styles that I am trained in (including Kundalini, Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative and Trauma Sensitive yoga) for the purpose of providing tools to create a meaningful connection with Self and empowering your own unique path. ‘It is my personal path of healing as an inclusive yoga practice’. It is all that I understand of yoga, fused together to create a practice for healing and thriving, utilising the many benefits of these styles of yoga in much the same way a herbalist may use a collection of herbs to create a remedy. Kimbalini Yoga is for anyone who wishes to dive deeper into their own being for healing, for strengthening their inner light and inner voice, for transmuting trauma and creating a connection to the guides that stand before us, behind us and those that exist within us. 16.01.2022 I love the opportunity that a new moon provides. Even if you don't follow the cycles of the moon, creating space for yourself to receive and release in gratitude and appreciation is valuable. The new moon reminds us of the temporary nature of our existence where attachment to the light brings resistance to the inevitable changing phases of our lives. We cannot ask the moon to be still, to reverse or to skip a phase to ease our experience. Each increment in its phase is an i...nvitation to bring awareness to the light and the shadow of ourselves. Only you have the ability to see the internal phases of light as they cross the surface of your Soul. Only you can feel the depths of your darkness. Only you can feel your whole self. 08.01.2022 Sat Nam, The word 'pivot' has been in my mind lately and given our current circumstances, its quite apt. By definition, pivot means 'the central point, pin, or shaft on which a mechanism turns or oscillates'. Having a pivot point enables us to be steadfast and grounded while allowing many changes to take place around us. ... In the context of a yoga practice, one might consider a pivot point to be any of the following: ~a drishti ~a meditation ~a mantra ~an asana(s) ~an altar ~a ritual ~a pranayama ~the 'awareness of Self'. When we use these pivots we are more able to flow with the transitions oscillating around us, including those in our minds. The picture attached was taken on our last retreat to Bali where I was grateful to be able to teach a Kundalini set on Restoring your Personal Power. Mother Nature ensured there was some significant energy surrounding this class as we all connected to our inner pivot points and allowed the oscillations of the waves in energy to wash through us. We are very fortunate to have these practices to keep us grounded in times like these. The simplicity and perseverance of this ancient practice is testament to its validity and verity. How we pivot in these times is a manifestation of our connection to our inner light. 'Om Namo Narayani' - I bow to the divine inner light. 08.01.2022 Monday HATHA with Kimberley 9:30am @theblockstudios What is the IT band?... The IT band is a thick band of connective tissue that runs along the outside of your thigh, from your hip to just below the knee. It acts like a spring when you walk, run or ride your bike, storing and releasing elastic energy. It also helps to stabilize the knee. How does it get tight? The IT band gets tight from overuse, especially in cyclists and runners. Tight muscles in the surrounding area pull the IT band out of alignment, causing tension in the band itself. Do we stretch the IT band? Ideally, we stretch AND strengthen the MUSCLES that surround the IT band to allow it to function properly and avoid compensation patterns that lead to muscular imbalances and misalignment issues. 08.01.2022 So if I see you running you can almost guarantee that I will be mentally assessing your technique. I don't know why, it's just something I seem to have always done. This guy nails it. I am equally impressed that he was able to make his body fit into those running styles as there is a lot of joint articulation and specific muscle function involved in each of the styles! Probably why he has a visible six pack under his shirt....from all that cross training!
