24.01.2022 Cayenne is our Herb of the Week! "Few herbs have the versatility for human use as does the common chili pepper, or Capsicum frutescens. The capsicum pla...nt is a small, spreading shrub that originated in tropical America but is now widely cultivated throughout the world, including in the United States. The small red fruit owes its stinging pungency to a chemical called capsaicin, which comprises about 12 percent of the pepper and was isolated by chemists more than a century ago. If the word capsaicin looks familiar, its likely because youve seen it advertised as an ingredient in many drugstore ointments used to relieve arthritis and muscle pains." - Mother Earth News Read more here: http://bit.ly/2RJcE7o

23.01.2022 Natural Support for healthy sleep/wake cycles Your body's pattern for sleeping/waking is controlled by an internal biological mechanism called the Circadian Cyc...le or Circadian Rhythm. Your Circadian rhythm is controlled by light exposure and is more powerful than any alarm clock. It regulates the production of hormones that tell your brain and body when its time to sleep and when its time to be awake. One of the main hormones that is produced during waking hours is cortisol. This hormones allows us to respond to stress and helps ensure we are alert and awake during daylight hours. Cortisol levels should begin to rise in the morning between 6am and 8am and should then begin to drop in the late afternoon and early evening. Once Cortisol levels drop below a critical threshold your body then produces another hormone called Melatonin. Melatonin is your main sleep inducing hormone. It ensures you feel drowsy allowing you to get to sleep easy, stay asleep and enjoy a restful nights' slumber. ***Contact your natural health practitioner today to find out more! #sleep #insomnia #stress #anxiety #health #wellbeing #sleeping #naturopath #nutritionist #wellness #healthcare

22.01.2022 The #Herbofthemonth is Tulsi or , commonly known as Holy or Sacred Basil A member of the family, Tulsi is one of the most important pl...ants in Ayurvedic medicine revered for its medicinal and spiritual properties. Tulsi was used in ancient systems of medicine including Greek, Roman, Siddha and Unani. Described as ‘The Incomparable One’, ‘Mother Medicine of Nature’, and ‘The Queen of Herbs’, Tulsi is considered a holy plant by the Hindus. Tulsi is a highly aromatic herbaceous shrub that grows up to 2 meters. All parts of the plant, leaves, stems, flower, root, seed, and oil are used medicinally. The active constituents, pharmacological activity and oil content obtained from fresh and dried leaves have been found to differ greatly according to cultivar and preparation method. Pre-clinical and some clinical studies show that Tulsi has an impressive range of actions. Tulsi can be taken as a dried herb, herbal tea or fresh leaves. The best way to use tulsi is raw as a fresh whole herb rather than as extracts. Consume a few fresh tulsi leaves each day to assist in adaptation to daily stress and promote health and longevity. Tulsi has a long history of traditional use with no reports of adverse effects, a wide safety margin, and is not reported to have any toxic effects. As tulsi has anti-diabetic and anti-platelet actions there is a theoretical possibility of interactions with anti-coagulant or anti-diabetic medications but none has been reported. There is very little reliable information on the use of tulsi in pregnancy, high doses of tulsi are best avoided in pregnancy even although tulsi is traditionally used throughout pregnancy in Africa. #NHAA #Naturopathy #WesternHerbalism
