15.01.2022 The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley are excited to announce the appointment of Vernon Lawrence, to the position o...f Chief Executive Officer. Vernon has been acting in the position for a number of months since the resignation of the former CEO in January. Vernon has over five years of local government experience, with Corporate Services Directorships in Tasmania and Kununurra. He brings a wealth of experience from private enterprise having owned a successful business in South Africa and working several years for Deloitte's. "As a Charted Accountant, Master of Taxation and a Bachelor degree in Accounting and Commerce, Council believes that Vernon has the skills required to lead the Shire through a challenging fiscal position given the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the community and ratepayers," said Shire President, David Menzel. "There are several exciting projects which require strong strategic and operational direction, including a Runway Extension, the re-development of the Kununurra Leisure Centre, Waste Water Re-use scheme and Town Centre Revitalisations. "The Shire needs to advocate strongly for the region, and there are many crucial projects which the Shire will need to support to stimulate the economy, including Sea Farms, and the proposed Cotton Gin," said Menzel. "As a Council, we believe Vernon has the tenacity to lead the organisation's operations, delivering on the needs of the community with a commitment to finding efficiencies. He added, "Vernon is an active community member who enjoys competing in the various adventure sports and races, including triathlons, cycling and swimming. He also enjoys the region for the natural landscape as an avid bird watcher. "We look forward to Vernon formally introducing himself to the community as our new CEO".
