24.01.2022 DERBY'S CARING COUPLE #ICYMI - A butcher and a wildlife carer might seem like an odd pairing. But for Derby's Ray and Heidi Sampey - not to mention the numerous wild animals their Derby Wildlife Sanctuary have helped to rehabilitate - the situation is working wonders.

20.01.2022 Just a little history about Kimberley Wildlife Rehabilitation for people who are new to the region. Kimberley Wildlife Rehabilitation was formed in 2007 by Jan Martin who also was co-responsible in creating Broome Wildlife Care and Rescue in 1996 which unfortunately closed down due to political problems in 2007. Jan was the first registered carer in the Kimberley Region and helped form Wildlife Groups in Kununurra, Fitzroy and Derby. Jan has been caring for wildlife for over ...26 years and has won many awards for her work with wildlife. We acquired a lease on a block of land from Department of Environment and Conservation now called Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions for rehabilitation, education centre wildlife hospital and Caretaker accommodation. To put animals on this block we need a caretakers accommodation as we cant put young animals on it as they need monitoring around the clock . It was tried and unfortunately we had to put the animals down due to injuries caused by dogs running around the pens harassing them. We are fundraising to purchase a Donga as the accommodation. Unfortunately there arent any grants we can apply for as they wont fund accommodation. We are slowly getting there, mainly thanks to Bunnings by doing sausage sizzles. We also have a Gofundme page, so, hopefully we should reach our goal within 12 months. We have currently agreed to excise a portion of our block for the rehabilitation of marine wildlife to be run by NAR Broome. Kimberley Wildlife Rehabilitation takes in all wildlife including bats, bilbies, tree rats, echidnas and are available 24/7 for rescue or advice. Ring Jan 0428 860 014 We also have a branch in Derby Derby Native Wildlife Heidi Sampi who also takes in all wildlife including crocodiles and bats and is available 24/7 for rescue and advice ring Heidi 0407 423 006 We also do education talks at schools. See Broome and Derby contacts above for bookings. See more
20.01.2022 Our first feathery patient....this little one had an injured wing and was unable to fly. At one stage, we didnt think he would make it but he has made such a remarkable recovery that he has been moved to our rehabilitation centre that has bigger cages so he can exercise his wings. We still have a long way to go in getting the block fully up and running so appreciate anyone who could lend a hand or donate. Our furry and feathery friends would be very grateful. ...
