22.01.2022 Those days you wish you could just click your fingers and an SATB choir would appear? #melts #sobeautiful I had the privilege to conduct this in rehearsal with ANU Choral Society one time. Eric Whitacre - Composer is a beautiful person too - I was lucky enough to meet him in Budapest of all places! Perhaps Canberra needs a pop-up teachers' choir...

16.01.2022 Just completed my first training with Dalcroze Australia Inc.! #obsessive #musiceducator #holidayspfft I think Dalcroze (1865-1950) proponents tackle the problem of musical understanding through training eurythmics (meaning good movement), aural solfège and improvisation to create kinaesthetic, tactile, aural and visual sensory experiences. Kodály (1882-1967) successors tackle this same problem through active music making, listening, memorisation, building up repertoire, aur...al solfège, movement and sequential literacy to give holistic mind body spirit experiences. Gosh I can see how Kodály and Dalcroze philosophies marry so well #everyhuman #deserves #awesome #musiceducation

14.01.2022 Yep, this pretty much sums up my 'cello bias... Sorted folders (yay) of duo repertoire I want to keep - concertos, brass, clarinet & oboe, harp violin & viola, then by itself... Please laugh at my attempt to make a meme

08.01.2022 Yes to the option to train as a Specialist Primary Arts teacher! That would be SO much better than the 3 workshops on music per degree I used to provide for pre-service teachers at one of the local universitites... It just takes practise to learn how to teach Arts subjects, just like everything else and all new teachers should be given the right to confidently walk in and deliver a music lesson too ... #letsmake #arts #notascaryword #forteachers

08.01.2022 Get yo' ass to Canberra for the conference 28 Sep - 1 Oct 2020: Árpád is inspiring and incredibly grounded! #talksthetalk #walksthewalk #musicinhungary

05.01.2022 Does anyone else collect millions of choir-building resources (which they never use, but, keep *just* in case)? 11 books of rounds isn't too many, right... #antiminimalism #thursdaydetox #theteacherlife

03.01.2022 The other day on insta I made a post about listening to music at home, as a way of allowing the body to move more, and the replies I received told me that so, s...o many of you don’t feel free enough to dance, energetic enough to dance, safe enough to dance, inspired to dance. But the good news is? Moving to music doesn’t have to be about dance. In fact, one of the very reasons I encourage you to listen to music is because when the auditory input speaks to the motor cortex, our brain takes the charge and moves us, even if we aren’t consciously choosing it. Our brain gets us moving our toes, or bopping a shoulder or nodding ever so slightly. And that movement? It allows a release. It’s a way of expressing ourselves creatively and emotionally. Emotion is energy in motion - we HAVE to move! But we don’t always have to dance. Movement is enough. www.allisondavies.com.au/brain-care-ebook

01.01.2022 Shout out to Baulkham Hills High School for their tight ensemble and enlivening selection of repertoire this afternoon! Great to enjoy cake with Daniel Sakoulas and see teenagers making music

01.01.2022 Today at school my main job is to help 4 and 5 year olds buy items at the market. Staff have fund-raised for kids whose families can't afford the $5 children can spend and all the items have been made by children. Amazing. #ilovemyschool #theteacherlife #helpinghands
