25.01.2022 Approximately 4.3 million Australians one in five people have a disability. As a society, we are starting to see a shift in thinking at a policy level on ho...w we can support people with disability to participate in an ordinary Australian life. This paper from Disability Advocacy Resource Unit is a guide to disability inclusion and how to ensure we can all live and work in an accessible world. http://www.daru.org.au///01/Disability-Inclusion-Final.pdf See more

22.01.2022 Four million Australians experience mental illness every year and it impacts nearly all families. With 690,000 experiencing severe mental illness, it is the l...argest cause of disability, yet less than 10 per cent can access the NDIS. Mental illness causes nearly 15 per cent of the health burden, similar to heart disease and cancer, yet it is allocated just over 5 per cent of the health budget. See more

20.01.2022 When you overlook people with disability in the recruitment process, you could easily miss out on finding the best person for the job. You also risk cutting you...r organisation off from 20 per cent of people in Australia, and that just doesnt make good business sense. On the contrary, there is plenty of evidence to suggest when businesses commit to genuine inclusion, it does work.

But it's easy to miss the fact that this is messing with our mental health right here and right now!... Are you prone to fight, flee or freeze when you feel seriously threatened? This situation has us all on the edge... and that's not a good place to be... It can tip any one of us over with barely a push.... hysteria is a hazard to be avoided.. At KP we are recognizing that we all need to be mindful that we're all on edge.... watch out for each other... considerate that we all react differently and look after each other with empathy and tolerance.... Be safe y'all, and look after each other... stay positive .....

03.01.2022 DISABLED EMPLOYMENT I am 35 and have an undergraduate degree in Visual Arts, a Masters degree in Art Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Politics and ...Public Policy. I have applied for a graduate position with Commonwealth departments but was unsuccessful. I applied for a graduate position with the NDIA and thought, as a disabled person, I might have stood a chance there. I received no feedback at all. I have come to the realisation that I may never get a job. What should be done to encourage employers, agencies and government departments to give physically disabled people a fair go? What do you think?
