21.01.2022 Leithan put his life saving skills to use last year, rescuing his cousin from moving river water.

16.01.2022 These cheeky Bulga (Barramundi) are always hiding when I'm after them. I'm glad my friend and her sister caught themselves a good feed today though. Good effort ladies! What else have you been catching on the Fitzroy River now that waters have lowered? Let's see some brag shots!

15.01.2022 The Fitzroy River is spring fed and provides paddle opportunities every day of the year. However, we're in awe at the contrast of riverscape that occurs across seasons. Check out the images below. The top image was taken during the October holiday program in 2019, while the bottom image was taken recently by Elder and Traditional Owner, Mary Aiken. The transformation is spectacular.

09.01.2022 Jarlyn, Darliah, and Nellie, went for a swim at the Camballin River in the West Kimberley recently. They didn't take any fishing gear and had intended to have a picnic. But, Jarlyn told me they saw this beauty "jumping in the shallows about 100m from us." Which obviously changed their plans. Deadly ladies! It's the biggest that any of them have caught before. "We think it was being chased by a Croc into the shallow because after we got the barra out there was one nearby watching and waiting," said Jarlyn. Which shows that sometimes you need to be in the right place and the right time (or the wrong place if you happen to be a fish).

05.01.2022 We are missing friends and family in Fitzroy Crossing. But don't you worry, we are planning to come back in 2021. In the meantime, we'd love to hear about what you've been up to around the river! Extra points for photos. Are the Bulga biting yet?

01.01.2022 Earlier this year, Garnduwa invited the RAFT UP team to help them buy kayaks and paddle equipment. This gear will be used for Kayak Guide training, as well as to provide safe, regular, and ongoing paddle programs for local people of all ages. It's very exciting, and shows a commitment by Garnduwa and the Raft Up Crew to the ongoing development of kayaking within FX, which will be shaped by the people of Fitzroy Crossing itself. After a few months of hard yakka, 2 trailers, 1...2 double kayaks, 48 single kayaks, as well as PFDs and paddles were sent from Whadjuk (the Perth area) to Bunuba Country, Fitzroy Crossing last week. This would not have been possible without the help of RAFT UP volunteers. We'd like to say a huge thanks to Grant Pepper, David Symons and Graeme Bussa who each contributed 1-2 days of their time, lifting and transporting these kayaks from different locations around Whadjuk (Perth). We look forward to working with the Garnduwa crew, as well as our friends and family in FX to support the healthy development of paddle related activity.
