24.01.2022 The aurora australis has put on a colourful light show that was visible from parts of Australia's southern coastlines over the past couple of nights. Why do au...rora have different colours? Light is released by the atoms at various wavelengthsand the wavelengths determine its colour. The colour emitted depends on how energetic the collisions are, where they occur in the atmosphere and which atoms and molecules are involved. Oxygen emits greenish-yellow or red light, while nitrogen generally gives off blue light; the blending of these produces purple, pink, and white. Our night vision is most sensitive to green light so we are more likely to see the oxygen green line emissions. Nitrogen auroras are sometimes blue, or a mixture of blue and red (purple). Some nitrogen aurora emissions are in the ultraviolet part of the spectrum, which we can't see. Learn more about auroras: http://ow.ly/pmxX50DZHvd The Bureau will issue an Aurora Watch notice at www.sws.bom.gov.au/Aurora when solar wind conditions look favourable for auroras occurring in the next 13 days. When there's a high chance that there will be an aurora visible now, we issue an Aurora Alert.

08.01.2022 State Emergency Service Vaccinations State Emergency Service Volunteers can get vaccinated in Phase 1B which will commence on 22nd March, 2021. _____________...__________________________________________ Information from QFES. The National COVID vaccination program is currently rolling out across the nation in a phased approach. Queensland Health (QH) is responsible for rolling out this program in Queensland and are currently rolling out Phase 1a. Further information on this phased approach is attached. QH has confirmed that all QFES staff and volunteers, inclusive of RFS and SES volunteer, paid workforce (including corporate staff) will be included in Phase 1b. QH are now commencing planning for Phase 1b which is likely to occur within the next 2 4 weeks. Their priority at present is to finalise Phase 1a. QH have advised that they will send QFES communications which include a single link which includes a departmental code within the next week or so. This link will take QFES staff and volunteers to a site where they will register their interest in receiving a COVID vaccine as part of Phase 1b. An invitation will then be sent to those that register, along with details on how to book in for your vaccinations. QH have advised there may be a delay in people registering for a vaccination and receiving an invitation and this will largely be due to QH Hospital and Health Services (HHS) readiness and vaccine availability. There will be a cap on the number of vaccinations available via this link (limited to the number of QFES staff and volunteers). We will keep you apprised as soon as we have further details from QH. FYI - You will also shortly receive information regarding the QFES influenza vaccination program where we will include advice from QH on recommended timings between influenza and COVID vaccinations. _______________________________________________________ Head to www.australia.gov.au for more information. https://covid-vaccine.healthdirect.gov.au/eligibility https://www.health.gov.au//priority-groups-for-covid-19-va _______________________________________________________ #qldses #qldsesva #qldfes #natsesva #sesvolunteers #volunteers
