25.01.2022 Well today is Earth Day. What a perfect day to think about how you can tread more lightly on our Mother Earth. There are so many small ways that we can all reduce our impact on our suffering planet by making small changes in our habits. Simple things like taking your own shopping bags with you to the supermarket are a great start. I leave a collection of bags in my car all the time, amd as soon as I unpack my shopping at home I put them straight back into the car. It is so ...easy to keep one of those small fold up bags in the bag you take with you each day as well, then you always have a bag ready for those impromptu purchases you make. It is also so much easier to recycle many of our containers these days, with the introduction of the Containers for Change Scheme. We can now recycle and be paid for aluminium cans, plastic bottles with a 10c recycle sign on them and for clear glass stubbies. Sadly we cannot recycle wine or spirit bottles yet. KANE has our own number, C10274916, which means that we receive the funds from any donations you make when you nominate us as the recipient and give them our number. This can happen from anywhere in Australia so it is fantastic income for us. This means we can spend more time caring for the animals and the land rather than fundraising. PLEASE share this number and help us receive more donations. All funds received will help us rescue and rehome abandoned domestic pets, to care for and rehabilitate injured wildlife, to care for our country through projects such as Neems-to-go and to reduce the devastating impacts of over burning in the Kimberley. We would be so grateful for you assistance. How can you reduce, reuse or recycle and help the Earth today? Every small change will help.

23.01.2022 This wriggly little ball of energy is ready for adoption from our KANE rescue at Kimberley Vet. He’s a boy about 5 weeks old and has started eating solids and toileting all by himself! If you are interested in either fostering or adopting him please give us a call on 0891691229

23.01.2022 I hope you are all having a fabulous Australia Day, enjoying this beautiful weather and out having fun. This rain has been so delightful and I can hear the country soaking up all the moisture and see all the creatures rejoicing in the water. The birds have been having the best time on my property, splashing in the puddles, and the finches are zooming around eating seeds and making nests. Hopefully you and your pets all stay safe and well, but please, if you need veterinary a...ssistance, or have found injured wildlife, please ring the vet centre for our After hours contact number. We use FB to share our stories with you all, not for emergencies, nor to make appointments or give medical advice. And thank you everyone, our clinic kid Spuddy is feeling much better from his tick disease. We are always help to help when needed, so in case of emergency please ring us on 91691229. Cheers folks! 19.01.2022 This beautiful girl is Sweetie! Miss wrinkly face is a bull Arab X She is super super cuddly, would fall asleep if you pat her enough but also loves to play but is gentle at the same time. ... 18.01.2022 KANE has just started a new initiative with WARRRL (Western Australia Reuse, Recycle, Renew) So for every can/bottle collected 10c is donated to our rescue. For perspective a whole bag would give us a $160 donation. That’s a pretty fabulous reward for drinking delicious drinks I say. ... So as you finish your beer next time, put the empties in a box and bring them down to the donation spot, the animals and environment will love you for it.

16.01.2022 These two goooorgeous baby girls have recently entered our KANE Rescue foster family. They are a wee bit young to go into their forever home just yet, but are currently in care with a very cool foster mummy, and will be ready for a new home in about a week. They’ve already made best friends with their new doggy foster brother/daddy they think he’s the bees knees. ... They both have lovely big appetites and are already using their litter tray like proffesionals. If a new little fluffy bundle of joy is just what you need in your life give us a call to organise a meet and greet.

16.01.2022 Is anyone able to help us by fostering this little chap? Please ring the vet on 91691229 Thanks

15.01.2022 As a vet I am completely aware of the Web of Life, that creatures eat creatures and that is how it is meant to be. But some days it all seems terribly unfair... This week Pauli, one of our two beautiful Wedgetailed Eagles that have lived in a huge flight aviary at the Sandalwood Sanctuary for many years now, was killed by a Python. I was so devastated to find him dead on Thursday when he was not to be found when their carer Bruce Russell went to feed them. It makes me so ...sad that he has left his best mate Lou all by himself, and I pray he will be safe now. Mother Nature is always so harsh. I gave Pauli a Vikings Funeral to send him home to the other side. Donations to KANE to help us care for all these beautiful creatures is always deeply appreciated. RIP Pauli. Rose Paul Unsworth your namesake is sadly resting in peace. He thanks you for all the life you have him when you fixed his broken wing.

14.01.2022 Happy Father’s Day to all of our adoptee dog dads!! Being a dog dad can be a hard job sometimes but it’s the most rewarding one, and your fur baby’s will be forever grateful for the love and life you given them. We hope your doggos (and human kids for that matter) spoil you today.

12.01.2022 Foster carers needed for two puppies, call 91691229 if your keen

11.01.2022 Well it has been a truly wild week with reptiles this week... First off one of our beautiful eagles was murdered by a python, so Desanka and I decided to move our remaining Wedgetail to a smaller aviary for temporary safety. We plan to give his enclosure a really huge busy bee before he returns. (Any volunteers to help?) Darling Lou, who has been with us for many years now, was a calm and wonderful soul as we caught him and moved him, and we are so grateful to our amazing car...ers Blue and Curly for looking after him in his holiday chalet But that wasn’t the last snake event...This morning at my property we surprised two amorous Stimpsons Pythons doing a love dance in our ablution block! They were completely oblivious to their audience (3 people and 2 dogs) and my photographer friend James Adam managed to capture some great footage of them. It was like a David Attenborough show in our own back yard!! We are so blessed with the incredible wildlife we have in the Kimberley, and we really need to look after all those that we have left and their environment. KANE will run a Trivia Plus Fun Night to raise funds to help us care for all Kimberley creatures and their land, on May 15th at the Ord River Sports Club. Come join us at Sporties for a nite of games, trivia, fun and competitions, and win some great prizes. Stay tuned for details and any donations welcomed.

They’ve been health checked, wormed and vaccinated and are ready to go into new homes. ... They will be big, they are Buddha’s but they are all very affectionate, travel wonderfully in the car, and sleep well at night and will make a wonderful addition to any family. They are currently here at the clinic and ready to be viewed if anyone wants to meet them before they go into foster care.

06.01.2022 All of us at KANE hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and have been spoiled by the easter bunny. Just remember to keep all that chocy away from our furry friends!!

06.01.2022 Oh my gooooosh!!!! LOUI!! You are a divine little nuggy!! And what a sweetheart! ... Mr Lou is now looking for his forever home, he’s a sweet solid doofus. That loooves to cuddle and is super affectionate. He’s learning some manners, sits stays and waits for dinner. But needs some more time with toilet training. Hell Be a solid sized boy, but for the moment he’s only about 10 weeks so we’ve got some growing to do. To meet this gorgeous boot call us to organise a time.

05.01.2022 Kimberley Vet Centre will be closed today at 2 pm reopening at 9 am tomorrow morning

04.01.2022 BIIIG THANKYOU to Mandy at the community kitchen and and also to Second Bite for the lovely donation this morning. Spuddy thinks it’s a bit of alright, and lots of rescue pups will Thank you too! We always take any donations whether it be food, towels, toys and all.

04.01.2022 Recently KANE Rescue was the successful applicant in securing a volunteer grant from the Department of Social Services. This grant has been put toward some desperately needed concrete flooring, and all new bedding and food containers used to house our rescue dogs at the Kimberley Vet Centre. We can’t thank Dave Flower and his team enough for the wonderful work they did not only working quickly and tirelessly to make a solid pad but also putting together the kennels themselves.... The many rescue dogs coming through our doors now have a large, safe kennel with extra room to run around in where potential families can come visit and play. All dogs that come through our rescue are advertised for adoption on our facebook page KANE Inc. We are very rarely too long between rescue dogs.

04.01.2022 Ok...so I’ve seen some pretty amazing things in my 30 years in the Kimberley, but this one is right up there as the most mystifying. I was tidying up my desk yesterday, as you do when trying to avoid actually DOING the paperwork sitting on it....and discovered this poor unfortunate chap behind a framed picture. Now, at first I really couldn’t get my head around what I was looking at, but, yep, it’s the unluckiest gecko on the planet. Death by crystal! The poor dude died be...cause he got a crystal stuck in his mouth. It just presents SO many questions!?! Why couldn’t he get it out of his mouth? What was he doing with it in the first place? Was he a stooge gecko that the other geckos wanted to shut up? What had he done to suffer such bad karma? The fact that I will never know the answers to any of these questions is simply excruciating. I wish I could coat him in gold and preserve him for posterity! Here’s cheers to all the weird shit that creatures get up to!!

03.01.2022 This is our newest little Orphaned baby! Pepper! She’s a ball of energy and giant smooch ball! ... She loooves cuddles and would happily sit with you and laze in the office in the aircon, but she’d also love to play with all her furry friends all day long too. She’s learning manners very quickly and already knows how to sit and wait for her dinner. She’ll be a smallish/medium dog, and she’s about 3ish months old. To meet her please call the clinic on 9169 1229.

03.01.2022 PARVO VIRUS! Its back AGAIN!!I In the last few weeks we have seen a huge surge in Parvovirus cases. A few things you need to know about this virus: IT IS DEADLY..., and treatment is exceptionally expensive. Even with the best of care there is only a 50/50 chance of survival. Without treatment this disease is a very slow and agonising way to pass. There is NO instant cure, vaccinating is the ONLY defence against the virus. So we urge you PLEASE VACCINATE YOUR DOGS. The virus is EXTREMELY contagious, so if your puppy is showing signs of vomiting, diarrhoea or inappetance, please be considerate of the other little ones that come though our door. Call prior or wait outside of the clinic, and we will show you to our isolation ward. For all concerns/queries please call us on 9169 1229

03.01.2022 WOOOOWWWEEEEE REVIVE Kununurra has just donated a whopping $218.10 to KANE RESCUE just from one containers for change deposit. We are so thankful to the lovely people of REVIVE and so proud of our community for getting around such a wonderful recycling programme.... The animals of the Kimberley benefit directly from every donation, every cent helps in keeping them thriving and happy.

02.01.2022 One of the hardest things about what we do is the ongoing costs. If you could spare a few dollars we would be forever grateful and so would all our fury, feathered, green and everything in between friends

02.01.2022 KANE RESCUE’S CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISER ooohhh it’s a good one too!! Buy a ticket to go into the draw to have your fur baby’s portrait painted by the one and only Jeanne Barnes. ... If you don’t know her work, check her out at www.jeannebarnesartist.com She is pretty amazing!! Your best friend will be immortalised in stunning colour and vision, it really is the perfect Chrissy present. Tickets are $10 andare available at the Vet Clinic, Atropia gallery and at the Christmas Markets. Winner drawn 5th December.

01.01.2022 We are so very thrilled to have received a huge donation from ARC (Animal Rescue Cooperative) Companion Animal Rescue Food Program of a massive load of Insectivore mix which we use to feed all the insect eating birds we rescue. Many different species of birds eat insects, and the supplies we have received will keep us going for ages. A huge thank you to ARC. The whole box held nearly 30 kgs of supplies! Also Included in the box were some large cotton rescue bags, so I duly... popped a couple in my car as they looked so very useful. Well blow me down if I didn’t get to use one later that very night, as I drove home after an evening meeting. As I headed down Ivanhoe Rd I could see a small creature scuttling round in the middle of the road, which I initially thought was a cane toad, but which tragically turned out to be a badly injured bandicoot. I caught the poor little fellow after doing a few laps across the road, and popped him in my handy bag to take him home to assess him. Now I have not seen a bandicoot in absolutely ages, and this boy had a severely damaged pelvis which had paralysed his back legs and sadly he did not survive for very long after I found him. It was so very sad. Please people, slow down on our roads and give our wildlife a chance to go about their business and survive to get home to their families. Thank you so much ARC for your hugely generous donation, it will feed so many birds and support all of KANEs wildlife rescue efforts enormously. If anyone would like one of our handy bags to keep in your car, please drop into the vet centre and we can give you one. First in best dressed!
