20.01.2022 So I haven't weighed in much in the federal election, because frankly I didn't think that anyone would want my opinion. Then I remembered most of you are here for exactly that reason! So here goes ... I am supporting Labor and Susan Lamb this election, WHY? my big tickets items are - save Medicare from privatisation - don't make it an affordability question in deciding to see a doctor or get some tests - don't cut the pension - give full Gonski funding - and give us some bloody decent NBN - stop the increased University fees

12.01.2022 My good friend Sonya Ryan and Nick Xenophon reaching out for people to sign the change.org petition to bring Carly's Law into effect, please sign the petition. The link is below https://www.change.org/p/an-online-predator-murdered-my-15y... Here is Carly's story; 58,751 Supporters My 15yr old daughter was the first child murdered by an online predator in Australia after a paedophile spent 18 months grooming her. But it’s still not a crime for monsters like this to pretend to be a minor online in Australia. Carly's killer masqueraded as a teenage boy before luring her to a secluded beach - he bashed and suffocated her face, then threw her into the water to drown. I could barely listen when I was read the court reports. This predator had 200 fake online identities to groom teenage girls for sex. My daughter had such a big heart and a bright future. She was so robbed of her life. It's a disgrace that Senators voted against a law to fix this in the past. I’m sickened by our legal system’s failure to recognise this crime, as well as the appallingly weak sentencing for child sex offenders. I’m calling on Malcolm Turnbull & Bill Shorten to immediately commit to ‘Carly’s Law’ a law that would make it illegal for adults to misrepresent their age to minors online for the purpose of grooming with the intent to meet that child.

02.01.2022 Caboolture River Bridge Project - Update... Please note, work is due to begin this coming Monday, 6 June (weather permitting). Project status ... Since Davbridge Constructions was appointed the construction contractor in March, it has been preparing all of the necessary documentation and plans in readiness for construction. While work was originally due to start in May, it has been rescheduled while traffic management plans are finalised. Early work is now due to start on 6 June (weather permitting) and will involve constructing the traffic cross-overs to switch southbound traffic onto, and off, the northbound bridge. The work is expected to be completed within two weeks (weather permitting) and will be carried out at night to avoid daytime traffic disruptions. Once the traffic cross-overs are completed, the southbound bridge will close and traffic will share the northbound bridge, with one lane operating in each direction. This is expected to occur around mid to late June. A timeframe of one year is being provided for construction, but the project team will be working hard to get the job done as quickly as possible within this time. Traffic management measures The department will be doing all it can to reduce delays through the site as much as possible. Additional CCTVs and webcams have been installed on Morayfield Road to monitor traffic. Mobile electronic message boards have been located at the bridge site since early April to inform motorists about the works. In mid-June, an additional ten boards will be located around the network. During construction, TMR will be closely monitoring traffic through the site and on the surrounding network and making adjustments to traffic signals to help reduce delays where possible. Delays through the site are anticipated to be at their worst at the start of works, however should reduce as motorists adjust to the conditions and start taking alternate routes. Impacts to Caboolture Sports Complex access During construction, access from Morayfield Road to the sporting facilities at the Caboolture Sports Complex will be limited to left-in and left-out. Right-turn movements into, and out of, the sports complex will not be permitted for safety and traffic flow reasons. Vehicles can use the alternative route via King Street, Riverview Street, and Stringfellow Road, or continue to use the left-turn from the Morayfield Road northbound lane. For southbound traffic, U-turn facilities are available at Church Street or the Market Drive roundabout. Emergency service acccess TMR has been working with Emergency Services regarding traffic delays through the site and impacts to Emergency Service vehicle access. TMR has fast-tracked the installation of Emergency Vehicle Priority technology at traffic signals along King Street and Morayfield Road. This allows emergency vehicles to automatically trigger traffic light sequences to change to assist with their passage when responding to emergencies. A painted centre median will be installed at the centre of the northbound bridge. In the event of an emergency, motorists can move to the left in their lanes and allow passage of emergency vehicles down the centre of the bridge. Advice to motorists To avoid traffic delays during works, motorists are encouraged to: o Avoid the bridge site and take alternate routes, such as the Bruce Highway. o Avoid travelling during morning and afternoon peak hours. o Before they depart, check the TMR traffic cameras or use online traffic tools or apps to check live traffic conditions. o Help traffic flow through the site by using both lanes right up to the merge point into a single lane to cross the northbound bridge. This will make sure the full capacity of the traffic lanes are being used, and help to reduce queueing. Community information In early April, 16,000 project fact sheets were distributed to local homes and businesses, and print advertisements ran in the Caboolture News and Caboolture Herald. TMR has been engaging with local residents, businesses, sporting associations and other stakeholders about the works. Further print ads and radio ads will run in mid-June to inform motorists about the closure of the southbound bridge. Members of the community can have direct access to the project team through the free call number 1800 783 016, or subscribe to receive project updates by sending their email address to [email protected]. Once again, TMR thanks the local community for your patience while it delivers this bridge upgrade project. It appreciates your support and will be working to get the job done as quickly as possible.
