23.01.2022 It’s a lot more difficult than people think it is. These words, spoken by 10 year old Maddy Coupe, keep replaying over and over in my head. From the drought zones of Queensland I was proud to work with @GrizzlyBearMedia on behalf of Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) to produce this four part, 20 minute video series being sent to leaders nationwide. 23.01.2022 In broadcast news we use a green screen, or blue screen, to superimpose an image behind us. This was me yesterday. During the coronavirus pandemic I’ve returned to 7News to assist where I can. I’ve also taken some of my trainings online and love helping people adapt to virtual presenting with their own unique backdrops! They express their insecurities and hang ups.. heh.. we’ve all got them! But it’s okay.. we work through those! It can be daunting looking at a black dot to ...engage your audience. I can share with you how to embrace the camera lens.. however small it is.. or a whole bunch of people in squares looking like the Brady Bunch.. on your phone or laptop. Sound, lighting, voice, and movement.. yes.. I encourage you to leave that one spot during possibly hours of presenting a course or workshop.. there are novel ways you can make your online work fun! 20.01.2022 I’m busy tweaking (not twerking) my media and public speaking workshops for virtual training. I normally use newsreader extraordinaire, Ron Burgundy to highlight the importance of having bridging statements up your sleeve when you are being interviewed by a journalist. They’re statements which help you avoid saying no comment, speculating or discussing a story angle you’d rather avoid.... In this current climate I might just start my sessions with this slide, and suggest my isolated Zoom groups grab a beer from their home fridge (not Corona!) and then we’ll get cracking. I’ve been training online with interstate clients for years. Now, I’ll be training clients in my home city virtually. Please don’t feel overwhelmed if you need to adapt your presentation to virtual.. I’m happy to help, so please touch base. I’m grateful clients are thinking outside the square, and are open to virtual training, and I have freelance work at Seven News. Still.. much of the work many of us do in the events industry has been decimated.
