22.01.2022 Well the heat is well and truely here . With temperatures set to soar this week, please find below some handy tips on keeping your pets cool! - always walk your dog in the early morning or late afternoon when it's cooler. - Some breeds such as brachycephalics (bulldogs, boxers, pugs etc.) are more predisposed to heat stress.... - Supply water and shade as well as cooling pads or ice blocks. ** a great trick - putting some kibbles into a ice cream bucket with bone broth or watered down stock, then freezing it! Once frozen remove from bucket and wa-lah it will keep those active minds busy but cool.** ** another great trick - wet a tea towel/towel and freeze it overnight. When You leave the house, bring it out and place it on a tiled floor as it will act as a cooling mat for a little while (please note - not acceptable for the towel chewers which we know are out there ) - Avoid taking dogs in the car unless you can have the air-con on. - spritz birds with a spray bottle of water Please remember: If you can't leave your hand on the path or bitumen for more than five seconds, it's too hot for your dog. Stay safe and cool everyone
22.01.2022 ? You can help to prevent heatstroke by ensuring your pets are kept in appropriate environmental conditions and being aware of the symptoms so action can be taken swiftly.... Provide your pets with a cool, shaded area with good ventilation at all times adequate ventilation and air flow are important as many animals cool down via evaporative cooling (panting) which requires adequate air flow. Make sure they have plenty of clean fresh water and extra water sources in case of spillage. Bring your pets indoors on hot, humid days if the indoor environment is cooler for the animal (e.g. air-conditioning, child-safe fans, open windows where possible and shade). , . On hot days try to walk your dog very early in the morning or late in the evening when it is cool, and avoid the hottest part of the day. Avoid walking on hot sand, concrete, asphalt areas or any other areas where heat is reflected and there is no access to shade. even when the windows are down dogs can still overheat and die. The high temperatures in the car combined with inadequate ventilation or air flow mean that the dog cannot adequately thermoregulate leaving them vulnerable to overheating. Animals in these conditions suffer horribly please don’t risk it. , , , , . These animals are often confined in cages and hutches and are unable to move away to cooler places, so they need to be moved into a cool, shaded and well-ventilated area in hot weather. They also require clean, fresh drinking water at all times. On very hot days you may need to bring them into a cool place indoors, for example the laundry. ? Vets are trained to assess the severity of the heatstroke and then provide emergency medical treatment as required. They will check your pet’s body temperature and vital signs and then instigate emergency treatment which may include: Putting your pet on a drip (intravenous fluids) Cooling treatments e.g. cooling enemas Supplemental oxygen Medication as required Blood tests to check organ function Ongoing monitoring and treatment as required Source: https://kb.rspca.org.au//what-can-i-do-in-hot-weather-to-/

10.01.2022 10 THINGS YOUR DOG WOULD TELL YOU... 1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful: remember that before you get me. 2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.... 3. Place your trust in me- it is crucial to my well being. 4. Do not be angry at me for long, and do not lock me up as punishment. 5. You have your work, your entertainment, and your friends. I only have you. 6. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don’t understands your words, I understand your voice when it is speaking to me. 7. Be aware that how ever you treat me, I will never forget. 8. Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily hurt you, but I choose not to bite you because I love you. 9. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate, or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I might not be getting the right food, or I have been out too long, or my heart is getting too old and weak. 10. Take care of me when I get old; you too will grow old. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say: I cannot bear to watch or Let it happen in my absence. Everything is easier for me if you are there, even my death. By: Eric Handler, co-founder of Positively Positive I promise I try my very best my big mate.....
