23.01.2022 Our theme this month is Let's Play and our lesson focus was: Vocal Play: Playing with vocal inflection the intonations of the melody of language is a critical part of early childhood vocal development. Vocal play may begin as early as 5-7 months of age and provides the opportunity for older children to explore the complexity of communication. When children engage in vocal play, they are practicing the coordination of lips, tongue, and breathing that is necessary to speak ...words. Phonological awareness, an appreciation of sounds as well as the meanings or non-meaning of nonsense and of spoken words, can develop and grow through vocal play. Children manifest phonological awareness by rhyming words, segmenting a word into syllables and smaller components then putting the word back together, and noticing that words have the same beginning or ending. 18.01.2022 To all my beautiful Kindermusik families past and present all the best for 2020! May it be filled with love, laughter and lots of Music!

13.01.2022 Our theme this past month was Family all around me and our lesson focus was: Body Parts: Toddlers are eager to discover new words and their meanings. What’s that? becomes a frequent toddler question, as their interest in words continues to grow. During the preverbal and one-word stages, a rich language environment builds a storehouse of linguistic knowledge that feeds the toddler’s growing world of language. The more parents and caregivers talk, engage in conversations, label things that the child is focused on, and pair words with actions during this period, the faster a child’s vocabulary is likely to grow as he comes to rely on language.

10.01.2022 Our theme this past month was Family and Friends. Our Lesson Focus was: Pattern Recognition: A pattern is defined as any sequence that repeats at least twice. The ability to recognise, identify, and create patterns supports learning in math and also contributes to broader social development. Through an understanding of patterns, children are able to make predictions about what comes next. Just as a child can predict that a red bead will come next after seeing a string with a red bead, blue bead, green bead, red bead, blue bead, green bead pattern, a child will be able to make accurate predictions about other things or events that occur with regularity.

06.01.2022 Our theme this month was Family and Friends and our lesson focus was Multi-sensory Learning: Activities that incorporate learning through several senses are known as multi-sensory activities. In the Kindermusik classroom, every activity is a multi-sensory activity because we know that children learn through their senses. Each sense activates specific neurons in the brain; therefore, multi-sensory activities generally provide more lasting learning opportunities than activities that only involve one sense. Each child is unique and brings to class their own learning style, which determines how they understand and organise information.

04.01.2022 Our theme this month was Sing a Story and our lesson Focus was Melodic Notation: Reading music notation uses a similar set of cognitive skills and develops pattern recognition that is related both to reading and math competence. Musical notation is actually a combination of two different systems: one for notating rhythm and one for notating melody. Reading melodic notation requires knowledge of the musical staff and how placement on a line or in a space of that staff indicates its pitch. Starting with one building block, c’’ and a’, children learn the symbolic representation for sounds that are already familiar to them through singing and listening. This is much how spoken language evolves into reading. Learning both how a note sounds and how it is notated provides powerful reinforcement.

03.01.2022 Well Yesterday teaching online was FANTASTIC! It was so wonderful to see all the familiar faces. The children had a ball and the parents really loved a familiar routine and structure in the living room! So special to be able to offer music in a time of chaos! #ilovemyjob #growmusicstudio

03.01.2022 Our theme was Let's Play and our Lesson Focus was: Social Constructivism/Learning in a Group: Laugh & Learn: Let's Play provides an experiential environment where the learning process is shared by the educator, adults, and children. Centred on the philosophies of Piaget and Vygotsky, constructivism is based on the premise that children select what they need to complete or construct their own learning. A traditional view of learning portrays the child as an empty glass being filled with knowledge by the teacher. Constructivism, a more modern learning approach, believes that children must put together their own understanding of the world for meaningful learning to take place.

01.01.2022 Our theme this month was Sing a Story and our Lesson Focus was: Listening: Language and vocabulary development, reading, singing, musicality, and storytelling all require skill full, intentional listening. In Kindermusik, we create experiences that develop listening acuity and discrimination in a variety of contexts and with a variety of related multi-sensory experiences. As listening skills become keener, so does development and ability in many other areas. Listening to songs, melodies, stories, poems, rhythms provide a vibrant and essential foundation for our emerging readers, musicians, and conversationalists.
