23.01.2022 Day 4 = exhaustion. Just when you think your child has settled into school, exhaustion sets in. Common signs are; 1) Saying they don't want to go 2) Overtired 3) Anger or tantrums... 4) Saying they feel sick. You can help by looking through the social story, and the Facebook photos. Remind them of the fun things they will be doing. Unfortunately, this phase will last a few weeks and tears in the morning are common. If your child is crying, please meet me outside the teacher staffroom tomorrow at 9:15. I can give you some specific strategies for your child. See more

17.01.2022 Day 7 tips! It's been a full week of school. Students have made friends and they've experienced success at school. Each and every one of them! Hold on, the "I LOVE school" is coming! What does your child enjoy most about school?

16.01.2022 This week, teachers will be completing the 'Best Start' assessments. Hoxton Park differs from other schools in that we do the assessment once students have settled into school to get an accurate assessment. Students feel more confident when they know the teacher well too. More info can be found here. 15.01.2022 Soon, your child will bring home a book for you to read to them. As students are still learning to read, please do not expect them to read any of it, nor try to teach them. A child's vocabulary significantly increases when someone reads to them which makes learning to read much easier. Here is a short video explaining. Make it an enjoyable time to sit and read to them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-OG2Q6pPQYw

14.01.2022 Day 5 - SPORTS DAY!! Students can wear their sports uniform and joggers. Your child can be VERY tired today! They may say they don't want to go to school, they may say they feel sick or want to stay with you. They may cry this morning when you drop them off! This is all their way of communicating how exhausted they are. I compare it to when we, as adults, start a new job. Everything is new and it takes a lot of mental and emotional energy. Teachers are very compassionate and... understanding and will reassure your child. TIPS: Please remember to stay positive as if you worry, they also will worry. Remind them that they've had a busy week. Show them the Facebook photos. They are all settling beautifully. Each day they are becoming more and more independent. Mrs Pierson See more

13.01.2022 Day 6 Tips School refusal is a sign of fatigue. All students have settled in well and are happy during the day. Teachers would inform you if there were any issues. You can help your child pass this phase by including lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and water in their lunch box and putting them to bed before 8pm. Lots of nutrients in fresh food gives them the energy they need to get through the week. Water keeps them hydrated. If you have any concerns, please make a time to meet the teacher after school.

13.01.2022 We call them camera words because you take a photo of the word to store in your brain. But a great idea for learning the words at home. Do you have a copy of our Kinder camera words? This first set is ... I the to was are she.

13.01.2022 From Monday, kinders will begin attending our morning assemblies. We have been practising to find our class lines & to display our listening manners. Morning lines are located near the canteen. Please arrive before 8.50 to help students settle into their lines (near the canteen). When they have found their lines, please wait on the basketball court. This is essential as it will help us return to our rooms promptly. PARENTS- Please do not wait near the students. We need to be able to get 6 classes past that area and be in rooms for the bell. If you are on the basketball courts, you will allow children to get to the classrooms on time.

13.01.2022 One more sleep! It's like the day before Christmas, or a big celebration! Prepare your child by saying things like "you're going to learn lots of new and exciting things", "you're going to meet lots of new people", "the teachers will help you the same way I do when you need help". Then tell them about your most positive experience at school or your first day. By focusing on the positives, your child will too!! You will be setting them up for success! If you didn't have a grea...t experience at school, try not to mention that to your child. Imagine what you would have liked and share that with them instead. Talk to your child's teacher in the afternoon if you feel anxious or message me today. There is a lot of brain research that shows we focus on positives if we look for them. We all want our children to have a great first day, so share your great experiences! I'm so excited to meet you all tomorrow!! There's a long, but exciting week ahead! See more

11.01.2022 Day 2. Some students may already be tired today. The heat isn't helping. Some tips? 1) Pack a nutritious lunch with lots of fruit and vegetables 2) Pack water to rehydrate 3) Reassure them that we will be inside in the cool air conditioning today.... Parents are welcome in rooms again this morning until the bell goes. Please keep in mind that many adults can make other students feel overwhelmed. We ask that 1 family member only take the child inside. We will slowly transition to the students walking in all by themselves. Please refrain from peering in windows. Students get upset. We will post photos of what we are doing during the day.

06.01.2022 What to expect for Day 3? Tears, tantrums or tiredness? Your child has been incredibly busy the last two days. They have learnt SO MANY new things. Think about it... 1) Names of teachers and friends 2) What is recess/lunch? 3) Rules and routines.... 4) Locations around the school. 5) To look after their belongings. 6) What the many different bells mean. 7) To speak in a sentence... The list goes on and on. So of course they will be tired, and tired children may say and do things that aren't like themselves. You can support them by talking about the positive things they have been doing. Or planning some quality time with them in the afternoon! Making sure they have nutritious food and water. Popping them in bed a few minutes earlier. Please know that this will pass. We will always speak to you if we were concerned. The more positive you are about school, the faster they will settle. Do you have any other tips? Mrs Pierson See more

03.01.2022 As we get closer to your child's first day at school, your child (or you) may be feeling a bit nervous. From a child's perspective, everyone is asking them about big school. Even store keepers, the person in the shoe shop, neighbours. New shoes, new uniform, new bag. It all creates some anticipation as it's new for them. Some tips include; 1) Read the social story that we sent home with you. This helps answer a lot of questions they may have. 2) Reassure your child that we wi...ll look after them, and that you will pick them up afterwards. 3) Ask them if they have any questions about school. If you don't know the answer, ask me! Do you have any other tips? If you are worried, they will be. So please get in touch with me and I will reassure you too, to make your first day at Hoxton Park as enjoyable as possible! Mrs Pierson See more
