25.01.2022 As we start to spend more time at home, this can be a very triggering time for some. . We may find ourselves eating different foods at different times. . We may find that we’re not able to enjoy physical movement the way we would normally.... . We may be restricted with visiting loved ones. . We may be experiencing financial uncertainty. . We may be feeling fearful, panicked and all kinds of other emotions. . And we may be turning to food in response to this to seek security, comfort and love. . This is all okay and perhaps now is a good time to think about the self-care activities you may need during this time. . All in all, please be kind to yourself and let that kindness be felt to others in our community also. #selfcompassion #selflove #antidiet #emotionaleating #selfcare #selfkindness

23.01.2022 Great job Centre for Integrative Health! Taking care of yourself during these uncertain times is key - if food has been something that has helped provide comfort and self care, that is absolutely ok.

17.01.2022 As a white person with enormous amounts of privilege, it is up to me show up and lean in to anti-racism work. . Thank you for the work of @jessicawilson.msrd @blackandembodied to whom I have been listening and learning from. . Thank you to @wattleseednutrition for asking the questions that need to be asked about how I can do better.... . Because of my privilege, I am able to now educate myself, unlearn and elevate marginalised voices. . The first action item? Reading Dark Emu by Dr Bruce Pascoe. Next, the DAA Reconciliation Plan & accompanying webinar. . My anti-racism work is only just beginning, but I am committed to lifelong learning. See more

17.01.2022 Happy Easter! There will be chocolate within my reach over the wkend ... and I’m going to enjoy it! And after I’ve eaten it, I won’t give it another thought. I won’t think about how far I have to run to burn it off and I won’t feel guilty. What is there to feel guilty about? Have I robbed a bank? No.... Chocolate is something that I can enjoy, just the same as I enjoy veggies, fruit, meat, dairy foods and bread. So if chocolate’s your thing, enjoy some this wkend and don’t give it another thought. #justeatthechocolate #foodfreedom #healthateverysize #haes #nondiet #youareenough #peacewithfood #studentdietitian #peacewithpie #antidiet #ditchthediet #nondietwarrior See more

14.01.2022 Amazing week working with Kat @nudenutritionrd on her latest blog about why clients experience binge eating and specifically, why it mostly happens in the eve. In the blog we explain why binge eating can occur (namely because of the vicious diet cycle of restriction - deprivation - cravings - binge eating) and then delve into the science that explains why it is more common at night (listed below). This is targeted to people without diagnosed Binge Eating Disorder (BED). ... Fatigue: When we’re tired our hunger/fullness hormones (ghrelin and leptin) are out of whack (1). These hormones influence daily food intake & can lead to eating more when we’re sleep deprived (2). Restriction: When we restrict foods (either because we’re on a diet or we label that food as good and bad & only allow the good), we’re more than likely going to eat more than if we’d given ourselves permission in the first place (3). Hunger: Sometimes we simply haven’t eaten enough during the day! Hunger + ghrelin being fired up in the eve makes for a winning combo to raid the fridge when we get home! More detail is in the blog + tips for self-care activities that can help for anyone struggling with this. Hint: be compassionate & kind to yourself! https://nudenutritionrd.com/how-to-stop-binge-eating-at-ni/ (1) Shlisky, J. D., Hartman, T. J., Kris-Etherton, P. M., Rogers, C. J., Sharkey, N. 07.01.2022 A thing happened - Peace With Pie has been working hard behind the scenes on a brand refresh. Same page, same enthusiasm for pie, just a new name & a new platform to start working with folks. Coming soon. #brandmakeover #dietetics #nondietapproach #nondietdietitian #healthateverysize

07.01.2022 What a privilege it was to be treated to a Samoan feast today in one of the villages. Such a rare opportunity and I feel very lucky to have been invited to dine with the family. What I love most about Samoan culture (there are many others too!) is how mealtimes involve the whole family. It is a time for being mindful, thankful and spending time with each other ... definitely something I’ll be thinking about more often when I return back to Oz. ... #beautifulsamoa #familylunch #lunchofchampions #thankful #peacewithfood #peacewithpie #taro #foodfreedom #mindfulness See more

07.01.2022 Ahh Poodle Science! My most favourite analogy about why we need to look beyond BMI and not expect everyone to fit in the same box.

05.01.2022 Can’t wait to read this! ‘Is Butter a Carb? Unpicking Fact from Fiction in the World of Nutrition’ written by The Rooted Project. In a sea of cynicism and confusion, Is Butter a Carb? stands out with its common sense, humour and welcome reminder of the simple joy of eating. As it says in the book: While the things you eat can have an impact on your health, food is so much more than a collection of nutrients or a vehicle through which to achieve ‘healthy’. Food is social and joyful and emotional. It’s something that’s great to pay a little attention to, but it’s also something that should bring you pleasure. https://www.thetimes.co.uk//wellness-nutrition-nonsense-is

04.01.2022 What does a meaningful contribution look like? . This is a question I ask myself almost daily. Currently I don’t have the answer and is the reason why I have not been active on the socials recently. . While we all do our best to navigate through this tricky period, I will continue to take a back sat on the socials and let the experts’ voices be heard.... . There is a huge number of Clinicians, Eating Disorder Organisations, Body Positive Advocates and healthcare workers on the frontline who have been doing a fantastic job providing support, information and guidance to our community - THANK YOU! . Please know that I am still here with my full support behind you and will continue to be a voice and advocate for all bodies, especially those folks in the margins who may have experienced inequity. . Be well and stay safe! See more

01.01.2022 I love and don’t love this time of year. I love the excitement of upcoming holidays, but I don’t love the commentary around food and bodies (none of which I will repeat here). Instead of being concerned with what we should and shouldn’t be serving/eating this festive season, I hope we can focus on winding down, reflecting on the year that’s been and hopefully, having time off to hang out with friends and family and do those things that make you feel really good (read: self...-care). That’s because self care is part of the bigger picture of health. Doing things for our emotional health is just as important as other areas of health, eg: our diet and exercise. Whether it’s writing poetry, taking a karate class, hiking a mountain, cooking a new recipe (and nailing it!), fixing up a bike, planting herbs, doing a fun run, de-cluttering the wardrobe or just sitting still, do those things that make you feel darn good ... in addition to eating foods that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside and finding movement that brings you joy! #santaselfcare #famtime #xmas #foodfreedom #nondietapproach #healthateverysize #haes #youareenough #peacewithfood #peacewithpie #antidiet #bodypositivity #bopo #ditchthediet #nondietwarrior #riotsnotdiets See more
