25.01.2022 The children demonstrated their sense of agency by initiating their own game of shopping by bringing out the cash register and some little shop pieces. After listening to their conversations for a while and obtaining a clearer understanding of the goals they were trying to accomplish, I started suggesting various props they could use and throwing out different ideas for them to consider. They eventually settled on the idea of opening a mini supermarket, so I helped facilitate... this experience by bringing out everything that they requested. The children negotiated their roles and the rules of the game before commencing. During this experience I was able to insert intentional teaching moments and instigate meaningful conversations between myself and the children about the different types of food that was on offer, identifying always food between sometimes food, fruits and vegetables and categorising food groups. During this simple activity we investigated many mathematical concepts such as sorting, counting, weighing, adding/subtracting, identifying numbers 1-100, fractions and quantity. The children demonstrating confidence and curiosity, questioning and problem solving as they played.

25.01.2022 How egg-citing! Our beautiful crowned stick insects are laying eggs at the moment. The children are fascinated at the shape of them, they don’t look very egg-shaped Time to investigate what other shapes, colours and sizes eggs can be.

24.01.2022 Starting on the ‘Get up and Grow!’ corner. I will be laying down a pebble garden base and getting the raised garden beds ready for some winter vegetables to grow with the children.

21.01.2022 One of our favourite spring/summertime activities is the Aquaplay set. Learning opportunities...probably heaps but most importantly it is just a whole lot of fun!

21.01.2022 Brand new $347 toilets from Bunnings marked down to $10...bargain...I’ll take 5! I can’t wait to lay down some pebbles and add a few more plants to make the cubby house garden even prettier

20.01.2022 My older children are game crazy at the moment. They are proficient in UNO, Go Fish, Beetle, Trouble, Snakes and Ladders, Snap and Checkers. Playing games with rules teaches children turn taking, numeracy skills, language and social skills - especially how to win and lose graciously. Children are capable and confident learners.

20.01.2022 When you drop into Aldi for a ‘couple’ of things Oh well, you can never have too many craft materials

16.01.2022 My 3 1/2 yr old asked if she could make fairy wings to wear so after a little problem solving, we came up with a workable solution. The wings turned out great!

14.01.2022 With a couple of children going to school next year, I am always looking for ideas to incorporate literacy into play. Even better when we can combine other developmental aspects such as fine motor and pencil grip. - Recognising upper and lower case letters.

12.01.2022 It’s been all about bugs and nature lately. We have spent many days hunting and searching for garden critters and having many interesting discussions. We also made paper mache spiders...terrifying(ly cute)

12.01.2022 We have been practicing throwing techniques lately but we can’t throw balls in the house. To get around this we made paper plate targets and pompom balls to throw. The children loved this activity.

10.01.2022 We are always looking for ways to reduce, reuse, recycle and repurpose. Here we have used some dense foam packaging (that came with a computer monitor) as a paint brush stand. This helps prevent mess and the colours mixing together on the brushes, especially helpful for older children who like clean colours.

10.01.2022 Making sensory bottles with oil and water. Activities such as this provide children an opportunity to practice life skills such as pouring and measuring. Intentional teaching - why oil and water don’t mix, language rich (expanding vocabulary) density, viscosity, separation.

09.01.2022 Mr 5 spent craft time finishing off his paper mache spider this morning. He told me that the blue back spider is a lot more dangerous than the red back spider and that it injects ice poison! Thank goodness it isn’t hard to spot and steer clear of

08.01.2022 Can’t wait to pick up our new mud kitchen tomorrow! Thank you Men’s Shed

06.01.2022 One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. I rescued this tool bench from becoming landfill. Brought it home, cleaned it up and it looks good as new. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

05.01.2022 Miss 4 is a huge fan of craft and owls. We found this design on Pinterest and she just had to make them

03.01.2022 After operating for 20 years in Sydney, Tania’s Family Day Care is reopening for business in Grafton on the 12th April 2021. I am now taking enrolments and look forward to welcoming new families into my service. More photos to come as I continue to develop my environment into a place where your child will love coming to every day ... Registered with Clarence Family Day Care.

02.01.2022 A professor gave a balloon to every student, who had to inflate it, write their name on it and throw it in the hallway. The professors then mixed all the balloo...ns. The students were given 5 minutes to find their own balloon. Despite a hectic search, no one found their balloon. At that point the professors told the students to take the first balloon that they found and hand it to the person whose name was written on it. Within 5 minutes everyone had their own balloon. The professors said to the students: These ballons are like happiness. We will never find it if everyone is looking for their own. But if we care about other people's happiness....we'll find ours too. Happy Holidays! Be there for others during this rough Time you will be surprised by the positive outcome

01.01.2022 Happy Halloween OOoooOooooOoooo... This week we have been going Halloween craft crazy. The children have been busy creating little masterpieces to take home for the celebration.

01.01.2022 Reduce, re-use, recycle, re-purpose I sometimes get strange looks from people that don’t understand how my (or any early childhood educator’s) brain works and they wonder why I get so excited about the simplest of things. Most people who see a discarded cable pipe lying by the side of the road would just see it as rubbish but I see it as a world of endless possibilities. Last week on the way home from the schoolie pick up, I spotted the cable pipe, picked it up and wiped it o...ff. A passer-by smiled at me quizzically and said What on earth are you going to do with that? and my immediate response was well, it would be great to roll marbles through! This was met with a vacant look and a ahh, ok. My children have had a BALL (pun intended ) playing with this pipe. They have experimented with marbles, beads, pom poms, stones and twigs. We have explored concepts such as speed vs height, sound, weight and talked about gravity...and this was just in the first hour of getting it home. Tomorrow we might introduce water and a funnel to see what happens. One of the greatest gifts you can have as an early childhood educator, is being able to see the world through the eyes of a child.

01.01.2022 We experimented with the plaster of Paris today, using balloons instead of traditional moulds. One balloon we let stand and the other we squashed under a book. I left it up to the children how they would like to decorate them and the results were beautiful. Lovely little ornaments to take home. Children are confident and involved participants in their learning.
