17.01.2022 A common misconception is that Key Word Sign and sign language (e.g. AUSLAN) are the same thing. They are NOT the same. AUSLAN is the native language of the dea...f community in Australia. It is a rich and complex language, developed over many centuries by the deaf community. It has its own grammatical structure so signs are in a different order to spoken language. Key Word Sign is a communication strategy for adults and children who can usually hear, but have difficulty speaking. It borrows signs from AUSLAN, but it is not a language in itself. Only the key words are signed, and speech is also used. This difference is important to know because of the long history of misunderstanding of sign language by hearing people. Please share this post around to raise awareness of this difference, and to show appreciation of the deaf community and their beautiful language!

12.01.2022 MEDICAL EXEMPTIONS FOR NSW RESIDENTS NEEDING QUEENSLAND HEALTHCARE UNDER BORDER CHANGE Tweed MP Geoff Provest said medical exemptions have been made for the bor...der closure that will no longer require NSW patients and support people to quarantine for 14 days. There was growing anger on the north coast as patients living outside the so-called "border bubble" faced the choice of missing specialist medical appointments, or paying thousand of dollars to quarantine in Queensland for 14-days. Mr Provest says those granted a medical exemption to cross the border, will no longer be required to quarantine in Queensland, provided they travel directly to and from their appointments. "In a nutshell this is a big win for people requiring medical services in Queensland." Full details below regarding new quarantine measures and how to access Qld health services: To access specialist health services in Queensland, NSW residents should apply for a Queensland Border Declaration Pass (General) at https://www.qld.gov.au/border Eligible residents should select the option: ‘Entering Queensland to obtain specialist health care that cannot be obtained at your place of residence, or as a support person to a person obtaining such care and can provide evidence of the time and place of the specialist appointment. When crossing the border by road into Queensland, residents will need to present their border declaration, as well as documentation confirming their medical appointment or treatment.’ Specialist health care includes the following and outlines the documentation required: Queensland Children's Hospital appointment confirmed in writing by the hospital Specialist outpatient appointment at a Queensland Hospital and Health Service, confirmed in writing by the service Specialist appointment at a licensed Queensland private health facility, confirmed in writing by the service Specialist appointment, confirmed in writing by the service along with a written referral from a GP Other appointments at a Queensland Hospital and Health Service accompanied by a form signed by the Chief Executive that the patient requires specialist health care in Queensland. A Patient who does not meet these requirements will not be able to enter Queensland unless granted an individual exemption by the Chief Health Officer (CHO). Exceptional circumstances must exist. Exemption requests can be made here: https://healthserviceportal.health.qld.gov.au/hdsp Patients will have to quarantine as follows: For an outpatient: in government arranged accommodation if treatment is as an outpatient for more than one day. For a day treatment or appointment, the person must leave Queensland immediately following the treatment/appointment. For an inpatient: at the hospital if receiving treatment as an inpatient. A support person accompanying someone receiving essential medical care will need to stay in government arranged accommodation, at their own expense. Alternatively, they can drop the person at the medical facility and drive straight back without stopping in Queensland and then come back to pick them up. Children receiving treatment at the Children's Hospital, and their family, can quarantine with the child at the hospital. For more information about border declarations, please visit https://www.qld.gov.au/border-pass or contact 13 42 68. The above information has been provided by Page MP Kevin Hogan.

We are hoping to put together a book full of the childr...en Dr McMaster has helped whether they are 2 or 30, it doesn’t matter any heartfelt pictures will do Our vision is prints (paint /ink whatever you have) of the kids hand together like a butterfly you can then write there name and age on a wing, a small message, a drawing or a photo No real rules just something small from the heart. 09.01.2022 With more and more people wearing masks in the community, we know kids are going to have a lot of questions - especially when they start seeing people they know... like their nurse or doctor, their child life therapist or their parent or carer with their face covered. Explaining why everyone is wearing a mask can be difficult so that's why 12-year-old Bella is here - to answer all those questions, and to provide some handy tips about how to wear a mask properly too! Special thanks to our guest stars Clown Doctors and Starlight Children's Foundation Australia.

01.01.2022 How are you all doing? Hope you are keeping well and safe. I have been enjoying working/playing with your kids again. To visit me in my rooms we all need to be well and have not been in contact with anyone from a known CoVID area, including any visitors particularly from Victoria these school holidays. I am contactless temperature checking, also we all need to use my hand sanitiser before, after and sometimes during sessions. I have disposable masks available also if required.... While I usually love including siblings in my sessions, it reduces risk if we can minimise people in the room so if they can stay at home that would be great. Please explain to your child that I need to choose toys that I can clean easily. Understand I also need to clean all toys they touch between sessions so we might not be able to play with everything they like. I have a copy of the NSW Health Coronavirus story book for children and I’m able to provide a copy for you to read with your kids. It is clear that coronavirus will be around for a while so we need to keep each other safe while still keeping up with the physio therapeutic supports you need. Teletherapy remains a choice if that suits you better. We will continue to be guided by the guidelines from health, government and professional organisations. Even though this sounds like a lot of rules, I am trying to keep things as familiar as possible and most of all, we can still HAVE FUN!!!!
