14.01.2022 What happens when baby arrives much faster than expected? Believe me - it happens more than you think. Thanks for sharing @aleciastaines Let's talk about those babies who come unexpectedly at home. More often than not, they're the LEAST complicated births. Physiology plays out as it should and birth is uneventful.... Yes, I had a few "holy shit" moments when I knew baby was coming before the midwives got there, but holy wow, I've never felt as powerful as I did that evening birthing my baby in that old cast iron bath tub. My holy shit thoughts: - this bath water is too hot for baby, I don't want to cook her - baby needs to stay under the water until the whole body is out - there is meconium on baby How does one birth unassisted and not know they are in labour? {I have had range of labours from mind blowing intensity to meh, is this really labour?!} It is the latter which is a bit of a curve ball for those planning to birth attended by midwives, or in hospital/birth centre. This birth wasn't intense until I could feel baby moving down. By then, I knew I had left my run too late to have midwives there for birth (they arrived very soon after). This was birth #4. Birth #5 was a very similar chain of events. @kindred_birth
