With the mounting uncertainty of our panic-stricken world, it is natural for us to feel an acute sense of mourning for the life we led only a few short weeks ago. 04.01.2022 ‘And I think to myself, what a wonderful world’. The Kindred Life team and I have been truly astounded by the passion and camaraderie that's been demonstrated by the Tasmanian community over the past week. I should not have been astounded, because this is what we do. Tasmanians dig deep. We help each other when the going gets tough. Our current challenge may be unfamiliar, but our united strength will always remain. I have received many phone calls and messages from concerne...d families wanting to know how they can best prepare for uncertain times ahead. My response to all of them and all of you is to share my own approach to quell the anxiety of the coming days. I sat down, I made a cup of tea. I had one too many Tim Tams. Then, I rolled up my sleeves and went back to my computer to help where I can. Because, that’s what we do. For the next little while, I will be spending a lot more time here, saddled by the keyboard and phone, with a fresh pot of tea and the same helpful ear and gentle advice I would normally offer from the comfort of The Cottage. While we may be separated by distance, my love and support for you all will not wane. One of the biggest fears I have heard from families is the concern that the rapidly developing social-distancing policies will prevent them from gathering together to honour their loved ones in the way they deserve. My dearest families, please know you will not be denied this opportunity to love, to grieve. To heal. Those of us working in the Bereavement Care industry are working together to provide new online services to ensure you have every opportunity to connect with each other. We will help you to celebrate your loved ones and to start your healing journey, albeit in a slightly different manner than we are used to. For the foreseeable future, Kindred Life will be offering families all across Tasmania the opportunity to hold Virtual Funerals and Memorials honouring their loved ones. We will be hosting online ‘This is Your Life’ virtual parties, bringing families together from all over the world. We will be offering opportunities to speak with someone over the phone to record your wishes for your families. Further, we are working hard to provide our life story writing service via the phone and online, to give you the comfort of knowing there is someone waiting to hold space for you in this time, as we navigate this season together.
