23.01.2022 WABI-SABI The Japanese art of finding beauty within the imperfections of life, and accepting the natural cycle of growth and decay. Celebrating the cracks, crevices and all other marks that time, weather and love leave behind.

23.01.2022 It’s R U OK? day in Australia. When asked this question we often answer yes when we really feel the opposite. I totally get it - it’s so much easier to wear that happy face and say yes I’m ok, when behind our eyes is desperation, pain, disconnection and confusion swirling inside our heart. It’s taken me many years to personally accept that the moments of deep despair, overwhelm, and what feels like being whacked with all the uncomfortable emotions at once, is a part of our li...fe experience, and that’s ok. It’s not something to feel ashamed or embarrassed about. EVERYONE feels this at different times. I now avoid labelling emotions / feelings as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ - and accept they just are. They are there to help me navigate through my life. R U OK? The key to asking this question is to be fully present so the person you are asking feels supported to have the courage to share their truth. If you can, choose a time that feels like there is enough space - few distractions, interruptions etc. Follow this with ‘I’m here for you’. R U OK? Day is about suicide prevention & a reminder that a simple check in asking R U OK? can make a big difference. It’s something to act on every day... support each other by opening your eyes, be present and ask R U OK? Listen. Encourage action. Check in. Often.

22.01.2022 A wee reminder. Let’s sprinkle kindness everywhere BTW... I’m working behind the scenes on an online shopping event and possibly a Xmas event at Urban Wellness in early Dec if restrictions lift to something that is workable for us. With Bowerbird being cancelled next weekend, I now have plenty of treasures to share with you! ... If I can gather them together, who would love to meet the ‘makers’ behind our beautiful collaboration products?

21.01.2022 Wendy from WICKed Home is a candle maker I trust - no confusing marketing to make you think you are buying something 100% natural when it may not be... Wendy makes both essential oil candles and fragranced candles but she doesn’t try and make them appear equal - there is a difference between the two... One smells good and provides the health benefits of ‘Aromatherapy’ using essential oils. The other uses ‘natural fragrance’ which simply smells good.... FYI ‘natural fragrance’ is made in a lab combining natural and man made ingredients. Which would you prefer - natural, or something man made to mimic what is found in nature? If you’d like to know more about this subject our friend Liz over at One Seed organic perfumery has a very informative and well researched Podcast called 'On Conscious' Tune into episode 14 on the topic of natural vs nature-identical ingredients. What is nature-identical? How do I know if my products contain these ingredients, and what do we know and don’t we know so far about mimicking nature and its effect on our health and environment....? #oneseed #kindredself

20.01.2022 2020 is a year of Kindred Collaborations which was kick-started in January working alongside WICKed Home to create a bespoke range of essential oil candles. We then partnered with our local soap maker Sweet Nola to bring you our ‘made from scratch’ liquid hand & body soap. And most recently Delicately exclusively made us a range of bath bombs scented with our blends ‘May I Be Nurtured’ and ‘May I Be Cherished’. There’s a bit of a bathroom theme going on here, so we also sour...ced some super soft 100% cotton Turkish hand towels from Loom Fruit to add to the collection. It’s all come together beautifully - introducing our ‘Soak + Soothe Deluxe Bath Box’ for bath lovers!! Each box contains: 1 x Turkish Hand Towel (Grey or Blue) 1 x ‘May I Be Cherished’ Essential Oil Candle 1 x ‘May I Be Nurtured’ Bath Bomb 1 x ‘May I Be Cherished’ Bath Bomb 1 x 250ml ‘May I Be Inspired’ Hand + Body wash Available online now in limited numbers alongside other great gift ideas, each purchase supports 5 different South Australian businesses. https://www.kindredself.com.au/shop/soaksoothebathbox-deluxe So much to LOVE, don’t you think?

19.01.2022 Exciting news - our retail collaboration with OmMade Meet the Maker is growing we are opening a sparkly new store in Rundle Place next month! Now you can find us at Westfield Marion, Adelaide’s Central Market and from 12th October, Rundle Mall! Oh and our own store in Port Adelaide! Meet the Maker is an inspiring shop full of heart crafted goods made locally by a variety of small Businesses. It’s great to see since the pandemic started there’s an increased appreciation of locally made products. Shoppers seem to be more mindful about where their purchases come from, and the ripple effect of that small transaction - supporting the little business who is hanging on and doing their best to make it through the recession. Our collaboration aims to bring you an old fashioned kind of service, share with you our love of our chosen craft, and show you our immense appreciation for simply noticing and supporting what we do. Rundle Place opens 12th October!

19.01.2022 Our bespoke oil burner set is designed to be a forever keepsake - a truly special gift for you or your special person. Working from her unique tree house located in the Adelaide Hills, ceramicist Ari Kermik lovingly created this ceramic oil burner and matching water jug especially for Kindred Self. Available as a limited edition boxed set, each purchase supports 3x individual South Australian businesses. So much to LOVE here! 18.01.2022 Our natural soy candles made for us by WICKed Home and infused with Kindred Self pure essential oils provide a more subtle aromatic experience. The fragrance of pure plant oils provide the known benefits of Aromatherapy - a healthy mood balancing aroma is gently diffused when the candle is lit. Our candle range is 100% suitable for those who are sensitive to synthetic fragrances. The ingredients: natural soy wax and our pure essential oils. That’s it... Most importantly to ...note, they do not contain synthetic fragrances that can be marketed or labelled as natural fragrance, nature identical, natural scents, naturally derived, plant derived - this is what’s called greenwashing!!! Have you thought about making the switch to 100% natural candles yet, if not for your own health, for your families and pets?

17.01.2022 There’s only 1.5 days left to get our popular little show bag - follow the link in our profile to see what’s inside... our 2020 Showbag is only available until midnight 13th September!

15.01.2022 If you are a seasoned candle user then your first impression of our essential oil candle range could be ‘it’s not very strong’ ... That’s because we only use pure plant oils from nature to add scent, not ‘natural fragrance’ which is actually made in a lab combining natural and synthetic elements to mimic what we find in nature. It only takes 2-3 weeks for your nose to reset and notice the subtle difference with essential oil candles. Remove strong perfumes / fragrances from y...our life, and your nose has the chance to retune to finer natural scents and it feels like you can truly smell again. It’s like when you start to eat a clean whole foods diet, you begin to taste the food again, no need to add multiple sauces etc, broccoli alone tastes flavoursome. Our business is built upon our love and appreciation of natural plant aromatics - please avoid wearing any commercial perfumes to our little store as the fragrance will overpower our essential oils and dull the experience of trying our products. The Apothecary is Open Thursday 2pm-6pm Friday 10-4pm 16 Nile Street Port Adl Our candles are lovingly made for us by WICKed Home in the Barossa Valley. #support2for1

15.01.2022 Creating a calm space in between the chaos! The week leading up to Christmas always feels so intense. I hope you are managing to have some quiet time inbetween the chaos. Being an empath / highly sensitive person, I personally become extra sensitive to this intense energy that builds from people being tired of work and needing a break, the increased Christmas consumer push in the media, family expectations & pressures, financial burdens etc. not to mention the challenges of... 2020 that we’ve all faced! I believe I’m not alone here so thought I’d share some of the ways I manage to slide and glide through it all - I draw in positive energy by acknowledging a minimum of 3 things I am grateful for each day - I support my body with nourishing food and light exercise morning stretches are the best! - I energetically ask for protection before I leave home - I carefully choose who I spend my time with avoiding people who drain my energy where possible - I carry essential oils with me so I can return to my place of calm wherever I go - If I’m watching TV I mute the commercials - I unsubscribe from any email subscriptions that I no longer read - I pick the quieter times to head to the shops (if I have to get something) - energy is the most intense in these places - I do small amounts of tidying and housework on a daily basis to maintain a clear and peaceful home environment - I remember to consciously focus on my breath daily I am breathing in, I am breathing out - I do what I can to ensure a good nights sleep - I hug someone everyday! - I lovingly place my hand on my heart and whisper ‘It’s OK’ or ‘you’re doing the best you can’, or ‘hello’, or ‘I’m here for you’. Stay clear, stay protected, be calm. And no matter what always always always be kind to yourself.

14.01.2022 If my life story was translated to a play, my character would be the protagonist, and Cancer the antagonist. The protagonist is at the center, making the key decisions, and experiencing the consequences of those decisions. The protagonist is the primary agent propelling the story forward, and is often the character who faces the most significant obstacles. The antagonist will provide obstacles and complications and create conflicts that test the protagonist ... but revealing ...the strengths and weaknesses of the protagonist's character. So true. I’m 17 years post Breast Cancer and now need to face my antagonist yet again. I choose to share this second part of my Cancer story in small segments - with this being the first post as an introduction to my situation. I intuitively feel that my story is to be journalled to help me to move through my decision making, so I can ultimately face my antagonist in a mindful and positive way. Being open also makes my surreal situation feel more real which is what I want. I really want to be fully present through this. And I hope there will also be someone out there who may find my own insights helpful or relatable one day. The crux of my situation, my implants from breast reconstruction need to come out soon - implants normally last 10-15 years and mine are now 17! So I’m faced with the decision of what to do now. Replace the implants? A second mastectomy? Go completely flat? There’s so much to weigh up, with additional decisions to make behind each choice. A year ago I thought I had a plan, I told my surgeon that I would probably choose a double mastectomy with no breast reconstruction... I’m going flat. Little did I know I would leave her rooms that day with 7 other surgery options to consider. So what I thought would be a step forward ended up being a step sideways, and a pause to think again. But that’s ok, I give myself the time I need to revisit my Cancer experience to help guide me. To be continued...

11.01.2022 It's official - our new OmMade Meet the Maker collab store is opening on Monday 12th October. Rundle Mall, here we come!!

10.01.2022 Anyone also feeling like this? Time to get out ‘May I Be Nurtured’ and the Miniko diffuser for a little invisible hug.

10.01.2022 I’m faced with a rather large decision about upcoming surgery. I have 8 options to choose between which I’m finding extremely overwhelming because each decision has its own complexity and then additional choices. I’ve been going in circles and feeling emotionally stressed. I don’t know what to do and I wish I didn’t have to make this decision at all. So today I commit to creating some space. For the knowledge and decision to settle and integrate within. I give myself time to... ‘feel' into what is right for me, which path I should take rather than overthinking or rushing everything. This has been a bit of a theme with my clients this week also. To create space to replenish, to create space for learning, to create space for rest, to create space to enhance memory. Time off actually makes us more productive, because on the other side of rest we are less caught up in the overwhelm and therefore have better odds of seeing our true answers. Rest, breaks, mindfulness, meditation, nature bathing, essential oils, music, dance, naps...Create some space to learn, restore and integrate, then listen for your answers gently bubbling to the surface.
