25.01.2022 looking for work?

24.01.2022 I couldn't share (no share tab) KT Noonan's post so I copied and pasted it here, it makes for grim reading, but we need to face the facts in regards to Arts/Cre...ative Industry in Australia. And remember, the Creative Industry still makes a significant contribution to the economy despite the sabotage. We should collectively be angry, very angry, but we should be thinking about how to be a more effective lobby force also. From KT - The Stage Manager of Griffin Theatre Company, Khym Scott, has collected all the figures in a handy timeline over which all of Australia's Arts community may weep. ************************************************************* 13 March 2013 - Creative Australia policy launched promising $235 million - including $75 million to AusCo, $20 million to arts training organisations, over $10 million in touring and education. It is by no means perfect, but its the first policy in 19 years. Its endorsed unanimously in Parliament. 7 September 2013 - Australia elects a Coalition government and we wave goodbye to Creative Australia. 13 May 2014 - Abbott and Brandis slash more than $100 million from AusCo, arts programs from the Attorney-Generals department, Screen Australia and more, effectively taking most of the funding from Creative Australia back. 18 August 2014 - Brandis and AusCo launch a new strategic plan and grants model: A Culturally Ambitious Nation. Creative Australia is effectively destroyed. 24 Nov 2014 - $254 million is cut from ABC and $53 million from SBS over the next five years. 12 May 2015 - Over $100 million stripped from a blindsided Australia Council by Brandis. AusCo cancels two of its four core upcoming grant rounds. 13 May 2016 (Black Friday) - Only 128 small-medium arts companies receive AusCo four-year funding for 2017-2020 out of 262 applications. 65 organisations who had previously received funding miss out. 2 July 2016 - Australia re-elects a Coalition government. Labors $161m arts policy and the Greens $270m arts policy lose out to STEM. 10 October 2016 - 57 vocational creatives arts courses are dropped from being eligible for VET student loans from 2017 because theyre lifestyle choices, including dance, animation, design, acting, journalism, photography and writing. 8 May 2018 - Another $84 million cut from the ABC. Soz ABC. 11 May 2019 - Labor launches a new Arts Policy: Renewing Creative Australia, including policies to restore Creative Australia, restore the Brandis cuts, support existing First Nations theatre companies to become MPACs and establish a new First Nations theatre company, fund the ABC & SBS and support live performance venues. 18 May 2019 - Australia re-elects the Coalition hahahahahahaha. 5 Dec 2019 - Morrison announces the Dept of Communications and Arts will be eliminated and incorporated under a new Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Communications. 3 April 2020 - Only 95 small-medium organisations receive AusCo four-year funding for 2021-2024 out of 412 EOIs and 162 full applications. 8 April 2020 - Amid the Covid-19 pandemic crisis the Government votes against broadening the JobKeeper income subsidy to the freelance and casual arts and entertainment workforce. The Minister for the Arts votes against it.

23.01.2022 This article about our Kinetic Energy Press project is now online in GreenLeft. One quote to get you started: "A work of art is like a window, providing vistas to inward and outward worlds. It is created in response to the observations and experiences of the maker, and it interacts with and comments on the psychological, social, political and aesthetic landscapes of the time."

23.01.2022 Please note that the OASIZ intensive workshop (March 20-22) has been cancelled.

22.01.2022 anti nature, anti indigenous, anti women, anti art: the gov continues on its killing spree, throttling the soul:

21.01.2022 Join me at this rally to support the man who was one of the heroic people on this globe to inspire our play EMPIRE (last performed in 2013):

21.01.2022 Here's a photo from our 2014 version of The Freedom Ride. The times they are a changing... And we have our work cut out: Let's change the date, and follow the advice given in the Uluru Statement from the Heart, let's implement all the recommendations to address black deaths in custody, let's stop all the iniquities caused by the NT intervention, let's pay back stolen wages, let's compensate stolen generations, let's write a true history book, let's collaborate with the first peoples as we look after each other and this land, let's learn the wisdom of the ancients to combine with the science and insights of the now so we can tackle climate change together, and create a world of peace, truth and equality together. Let's thank the first peoples for their patience. They have been waiting for too long.

21.01.2022 Suggestion: activism from home. We are asked to stay at home and/or self isolate and socially isolate while we weather the coronavirus and its fall-out. That me...ans many of us will have quite a bit of time on our hands. Why not apply ourselves to tackle the big issues from home: climate change, climate emergency, climate justice, and the underlying sickness that has caused global havoc: neoliberal capitalism (with its built-in inequality, racism, war-faring and war-mongering, and continuous war on nature). Because let's face it: the health of the planet and the world economy was already in free-fall way before this virus came along. So please, while you spend some time each day on your own and your family's health and well being, do the same on the well being of humanity and our collective home - this planet. Pick a cause, and get cracking! See more

21.01.2022 Hi Folks, if you are interested in doing the OASIZ workshop with me in March, it would be great if you could jot me an email to enrol, and indicate which session(s) you want to attend, so I get an idea of the numbers. Thanks! My email: [email protected] Here's the link to the event: https://www.facebook.com/events/160940515322566/

20.01.2022 Special screening of In My Blood It Runs Graham and I saw this extraordinary film at the Sydney Film Festival. Now Saha Jones has organised a special screening ...to officially launch this groundbreaking doco, with a panel discussion afterwards, including special guest Adam Goodes. Here some info (by Saha), and the link to the event: This event sits inside its own impact campaign, which is to get behind First Nations led storytelling, and the action needed to follow it up. From a climate change perspective as well as an arts and culture one, supporting First Nations led advocacy for care of country and the healing process of reconciliation is a huge part of this journey towards a just transition and the decolonisation of the institutional space. A week after this screening there will be a major parliamentary screening in Canberra, and also Adam Goodes documentary screens on national television the following day. The Art Gallery of NSW Atelier supported opening night of the critically acclaimed documentary In My Blood It Runs celebrating First Nations-led storytelling, arts, culture and voices of the next generation. Coby Edgar, curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art, will host a panel discussion to follow the screening; with special guests Adam Goodes, Director Maya Newell, Tony Albert, and CEO of Childrens Ground Jane Vadiveloo. In My Blood It Runs, was made in collaboration with Arrernte & Garrwa families and communities in the Northern Territory. It follows the story of 10-year-old Dujuan Hoosan, who shares his wisdom of history and the complex world around him. Selected for the Sundance Institute Documentary Fund and Good Pitch Australia, Dujuan was recently the youngest child to speak at the UN Council for Human Rights and will address Atelier on the night. Tickets are $50 and 100% of the proceeds from these ticket sales will go towards Dujuans wish to build and resource an Arrernte-led school on Dujuans Homelands at Mpwerinke Anapipe, North of Alice Springs. 19.01.2022 Art changes life - Art in a time of emergency Saha Jones will be opening Reid Butler's WATER PAPER exhibition at Incinerator Gallery tomorrow night. Here some ...quotes from the SMH article: Butler also says his work is a call for individual action rather than expecting politicians to solve all our pressing environmental problems. Everyone is the problem and everyone is the solution, he says. Each of us is the reason why it is happening so we all have to do something. Thinking the government or someone is going to fix everything with a plan or strategy is useless. Many scientists go through the motions knowing their work will have little effect but Butler says he can no longer go along with that. I say it like it is when I am in meetings with these people, he says. I can get quite annoyed and I dont know whether its great for my career. But as a consultant you cant tell any one to fk off so this give me a bit of an outlet. Water Paper, Incinerator Art Space, Willoughby, March 2 - 23

19.01.2022 To all Shakespeare lovers This new doco by Robin Phillips is winning accolade after accolade. With so many prizes won, keep your eye open for its release. (And I'll keep you posted, too!)

18.01.2022 Thank you Anthea Boesenberg, for digging out your excellent pix from your treasure trove archive.

17.01.2022 Shakespeare Authorship Awareness We live in a time when we say to all kinds of authorities: please listen to the science, look at the data, examine the facts - for example about climate change, or about coronavirus, or domestic violence, racism, systemic inequality, and so on, and we expect, in this 21st century, that policies and remedies are created based on these facts, with common sense, for the common good, collaboratively, and without weaponising... So in that vein, we ...could exercise our wits and sharpen our senses by looking at the facts, unraveling the myths, examining the evidence surrounding that great (or greatest for many) author in the English language, our beloved Shake-speare. When we (the co-directors of KETC) did just that, we became first 'doubters', and then 'Oxfordians'. The SOF runs an interesting series called "How I became an Oxfordian". You may have read our particular story already. Here's another one, the latest in the series: See more

17.01.2022 - News about our current grand project: the publishing of our body-of-work, 1985-2016 Our plays are of historical and cultural importance, and it is a great pleasure to announce our commitment to their publication. Jola-Inanna Jones has stepped on board as editor of Kinetic Energy Press, and together we have been making much progress. So much so, that we are aiming for the launch of the first five books this spring, namely five major plays from our legendary Edge Theatre era...Continue reading

16.01.2022 At the occasion of Shakespeare's recent birthday, we would like to honour Tom Regnier. Regnier was a great Oxfordian, and former president of the Shakespeare Oxford Fellowship. He unpicked many Shakespeare-authorship questions with the surgical precision of his brilliant lawyer's mind. He sadly is no longer with us in this world, after succumbing to the coronavirus. We invite you to one of Regnier's most famous presentations:

11.01.2022 Shakespeare Authorship Awareness Have some fun considering these coincidences:

09.01.2022 moral leadership.... company community... long term views... investment in human capital... the arts an essential pillar of any society...... Well yes, Graham and I have been for-crying-out-loud about these things and trying to do something about it since we started working together as co-directors of our company in 1984...

09.01.2022 This reminds me of the experimental theatre & visual art endeavours of the seventies. A great idea to reimagine these experiments now!

08.01.2022 this remarkable woman was the main inspiration for Emily, one of the characters in our play HOME. Our first Emily was played by pianist Tomomi Takahashi.

06.01.2022 this version of The Dream works like a dream with this great twist... so much fun to watch:

05.01.2022 Shakespeare Authorship Awareness The drama, myths and enormous power struggles surrounding the question of the Bard's authorship are fascinating. It is a rich minefield ever ripe for exploration, and a burning invitation to let your inquiry tell you something about the traps and edifices constructed in the mind... It can be a challenge to free ourselves from the cultural and intellectual prison (as Michael Dudley calls it) imposed on us by the society we live in. Do we want ...to be part of a society that continues to scorn knowledge of itself? How do we approach knowledge? What is the quality of our truth seeking? How do we transit from one paradigm to a new one? Do we opt for the norm, or are we open for other perspectives? How do we experience the dynamics of imprisonment and liberation... If these processes intrigue you, and you love Shakespeare, then listen to this Tedtalk by Michael Dudley:

05.01.2022 In October 2019 we invited the one and only Megan Washington curate We Are Twenty, a programme celebrating the City Recital Halls 20th anniversary, in Sydney. ...As part of the concert, Megan commissioned Rob Davidson (Topology) to write a musical portrait around Greta Thunberg's famous UN speech. As said by Megan, "We Are Twenty was about celebrating the next twenty years, not the last 20. This speech is the definition of punk, and more important than any song that has been written in my lifetime, so I couldnt look to the future without including it." Lyrics written by Greta Thunberg and Megan Washington Music composed by Robert Davidson Performed by Megan Washington, Luke Howard and Topology Directed and edited by Nick Waterman

05.01.2022 Shakespeare Authorship Awareness Edward de Vere (17th Earl of Oxford) is the strongest candidate in the authorship debate:

02.01.2022 Shake-speare Authorship Awareness: How exciting to see teachers of English recognising the importance of the authorship question at this conference in Baltimore! To teach Shakespeare today can be very hard, but this open-inquiry perspective (the quest for truth, the need to be a sleuth) has the added advantage of engaging the students on many levels. I remember quite a few talks with teachers here in Oz who were unable to deviate from the official curriculum but would if they could... https://shakespeareoxfordfellowship.org/sof-is-a-hit-at-en/

02.01.2022 Dear friends, As we move into the new year, marking the winter/summer solstice and X-mas time with celebrations of the Tree of Life, the powers of Renewal, the ...movement of Light, the promise of Peace for All, it is clear to many that one of our most urgent tasks is to reconnect with earth, with mother nature, and re-orientate ourselves as being part of nature, not separate from it, dominating and abusing it. To re-find and redefine our humanity through our relationship and connection with all life. Some progressives apply the word ‘decolonisation' to this process. Namely, the need for us to de-colonise our mind, so we free ourselves from the warped ideas of a system that is far past its use-by date. A system that has become so destructive and damaging, it is a danger to life as we know it. I believe and hope it is through our innate capacity for love and compassion, that we will be able, together, to stop mankind’s overstepping of the laws of nature. I wrote some of my reflections down as an end of year poem. It was published in the GLW.
