23.01.2022 CYBER TIP OF THE DAY: Always update your passwords Have you got the same password for your banking app, work log-in, Gmail and Spotify? When was the last time you changed your passwords? The easier you make it and the longer you leave it, the more likely you will get hacked! Some simple tips on strong passwords and good practices include: 1. Use no less than 8 12 characters. A passphrase is better e.g. IwantToeatAbuRgerRightnow... 2. Make it complex. Use a combination of letters and characters e.g. 1w4ntToeatAbuRgerR!ghtnow 3. If youre forgetful, use a trusted password manager 4. Dont share your passwords even with your loved ones. Sometimes sharing isnt caring 5. Use multi-factor authentication (2FA) wherever and whenever you can. 22.01.2022 CYBER SAFETY TIP OF THE DAY: Its National Scams Awareness Week which is a perfect reminder to keep our cyber safety wits about us This year alone, Australians have reported more than 24,000 cases of lost or stolen personal information according to the ACCCs Scamwatch. Representing a 55 percent increase compared to this time last year, this cumulative loss comes with a hefty $22 million price tag! With more of us working and socialising online, cyber criminals are making... hay while the sun shines. Scammers and fraudsters are successfully using tried and tested methods to access valuable Personally Identifiable Information (PII) including bank and superannuation details, passwords, drivers licence, credit card and tax statements. Check out the list of current scams in motion, including fake myGov texts, Netflix phishing emails and early superannuation access scams, and follow these tips for online safety to protect your PII. 22.01.2022 CYBER SAFETY TIP OF THE DAY: Spring Clean your LinkedIn Profile LinkedIn is the premier social media platform for professional networking and is widely used by corporate professionals across the globe for recruitment, company communications, news, announcements, and training. But, did you know it can be a breeding ground for personalised cyber-attacks? To avoid falling victim, its essential to maintain strong LinkedIn security and privacy settings. Some useful tips include...: 1. Dont overshare. A few misplaced facts about yourself or your company could reveal a hook that attackers can exploit. Remember LinkedIn is a public platform. 2. Keep your contact details private. Utilise LinkedIns internal messaging system instead of sharing via your profile. 3. Double check before accepting a connection request. Do you know this person? Do you have any common connections? If youre unsure of someones credibility look through their profile, check their latest posts. If in doubt, dont accept. 4. Clean up your connections. Housekeeping is the best way of keeping your network clean and safe from intruders. 15.01.2022 CYBER SAFETY TIP OF THE DAY: You're stronger with 2FA Whats 2FA I hear you ask? Two-Factor or Multi-Factor Authentication provides an extra layer of security. It verifies a users identity beyond the traditional username and password by requesting additional credentials, such as: Codes generated by smartphone apps or sent to email addresses... Soft tokens Security questions Fingerprint scans Facial recognition With 2FA, a potential compromise of just one of these factors wont unlock the account. So, even if your password is stolen or your phone is lost, the chances of someone else being able to access information, data, and apps on your device is highly unlikely. Its important to do everything you can to improve your online account security. 14.01.2022 We exist to protect our customers from the cyber threats they have now, and those they dont yet know. A big part of achieving this is by working collaboratively to raise awareness so their teams become a fortified first line of defence. Off the back of Cyber Awareness Week, Kinetic IT hosted a series of interactive sessions with Water Corporations Cyber Security team. Our Strategic Security Advisor, Tony Campbell, highlighted the sophistication of todays threat actors a...nd discussed the innovative methods we use to defend against their attacks, while our Penetration Tester, Will Campbell ran a live hacking demo, re-creating a common spear-phishing attack on a fake social media profile to show how easy it is to gain control of a victims computer. Wed like to say a special thanks to Water Corporation for the opportunity to share our knowledge, and were glad your teams got a lot out of the sessions. Its not until we can actually see what happens on the other end and the real-world consequences that we start to sit up and take notice and you enabled our people to do just that Simon Carabetta, Cyber Awareness Officer, Information and Technology Group, Water Corporation #cybersecurity #cyberaware #penetrationtesting #protectingourcustomers #collaboration

13.01.2022 Cyber Security Tip of the Day: Back It Up Backing up important files is a simple and effective way to stay on top of your data. It can also help you recover from cyber-attacks, especially ransomware and destructive malware. Companies should establish and maintain back-ups for their most important corporate systems and information, using either cloud-based or physical storage media. If you fall victim to a cyber-attack, you may need to take extreme measures and completely wipe... a device or server. Having your back up data stored externally means hackers wont have access to it and you can safely recover and restore it. We recommend you regularly test your back routine up processes to ensure they are carried out correctly and that your data restoration procedures are effective. 05.01.2022 CYBER TIP OF THE DAY: Dont assume youre not a target The humble among us like to think were not worth the effort, the confident ones believe it wont happen to them. 05.01.2022 CYBER SAFETY TIP OF THE DAY: Cyber safety for your wearable tech So, what is considered wearable tech? Well outside of your Apple Watches, Fitbits, or even Google Glass, wearable tech can be made up of four main categories; smart glasses and headgear, smartwatches, wearable medical devices, and fitness trackers. Something these all have in common is:... - They sense and translate data - Collect and prepare data for transmission; and - Transmit data to off-site storage for processing and reporting. Meaning they hold valuable information, whether that be your latest medical records, the exact location of your local run, or even your bank and card details for easy tap payments. Therefore, its important to approach wearable technology with the same level of cyber security protection as you would with traditional technology. 01.01.2022 CYBER SAFETY TIP OF THE DAY: Avoid the temptation of free WiFi Hotspots Youve just ordered a cappuccino at your local and you jump onto the cafés WiFi hotspot to log into your emails, scroll the news and check your bank balance. I mean, why not? Its free and convenient! Well we say think twice because free public WiFi is extremely un-secure and riddled with cyber risks including data theft, malware attacks, and malicious rogue access hotspot accounts.... If you really need to use a WiFi hotspot (again, we recommend against this), you can reduce your risk by: Disabling sharing and switching to public network settings Being selective of what you access while using public WiFi e.g. avoid bank and email accounts Using a VPN to encrypt your data and make your public connections private Turning off WiFi when you no longer need it. PROTECT+ can be your strong defence, for more tips on cyber security visit https://protect.kineticit.com.au #CyberSafety #TipoftheDay #hotspots #publicWiFi #stayalert #PROTECTYourData
