23.01.2022 APU State Championships over the weekend was crazy. Powerlifters around the nation got together in Perth to exhibit how much hardwork theyve been putting in for months and years. Congratulations to our lifters who we had the honour to look after and hopefully had some contribution to their performance @dxnnyle @liznaps @dom_belgrove @leaannwardle @upliftnlift @trenyboi, most of them smashing their record. Amongst our Kinetic lifters, we cant be more proud of our one and only ...sponsored powerlifter @ewanbelgrove, at age 19 who battled it out with a monster @hussyy_a and put up a good fight, but unfortunately fell short. There will be some injuries and niggles we will be working on together (as usual) and we will be back stronger and stronger each year ! 15.01.2022 PAIN WITH RUNNING Often we get calf pain, foot pain or heel pain with walking or running. As shown in the photo above, the calf muscle is a continuous fibre from the muscles on the bottom of the feet (plantar fascia) via the heels.... A dysfunctional muscle in the calf muscle can cause pain under the feet, and vice versa. This is where problems like plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis and knee problems start to happen. 10.01.2022 65 YEARS YOUNG SQUAT Yes, he is 65, diagnosed with osteoporosis (decreased bone density) 3 years ago, bad knee pain that stopped him from walking properly. Doctors have told him to never put more than 5 kg on his back, dont do anything physical, and take a bunch of pain killers. We knew there was going to be a better approach.... We teamed up with a personal trainer, made sure strength and technique improves, whilst pain was being controlled. Here he is today, 60kg on his back for 2 reps, no knee pain, stronger bone density and reversed the process of osteoporosis. In fact, how common is it to have your second, third and fourth ACL surgery after your first !? We believe taking things out of the body or putting things in will always have SOME detrimental effect on the body, therefore surgery is not always the best option.... Not only the research but even our experiences with our ACL patients have proven to us that returning to pivoting, jumping, landing and high impact sports is definitely possible and safe with Chiropractic care and rehabilitation. 04.01.2022 HOW SHOULD I WARM UP ?? Most commonly the biggest reason sporting injuries happen is due to poor warm up routines. Stretching before workouts by chucking your leg on the bench and "feeling it" in your hamstrings, or the good old hip flexor stretch can actually lead to potential injuries (Check out our website blog at www.kschiro.com.au to learn more) Instead, We want to expose and prepare our tissues (bones, ligaments, muscles and tendons) to the amount of load we are about t...o place in the next hour or so. The goal should be to try and mimic the loading pattern similar to your exercise, but with minimal effort. Remember, with most exercises, we want to try and produce the greatest amount of force, with the least amount of energy expenditure possible. Any vertical loading exercises that require jumping and landing for example (basketball, volleyball) should have a warm up routine like this !! 04.01.2022 LOW BACK PAIN CAN BE AFFECTED BY THE NECK ! Still don't believe us when we say the cause comes from somewhere else ? Following on from our previous post how ankle range affects shoulder range, neck positions can affect the loading on the low back. Bending forward to touch your toes (flexion) is a difficult action for most people with low back pain, especially disc injuries or nerve problems. There are a million and one causes for this low back pain, so no one should ever be t...reated the same way. This is where we must assess the cause rather than chasing the symptoms all the time. After detailed assessments HEAD TO TOE (not just blindly looking at the painful area), we figured there was a direct correlation with neck movements to low back pain. Turning the head to the right increased the low back pain more, turning the head to the left side immediately relieved the low back pain when moving into flexion. How could that happen ?? Myofascial lines and the complex anatomy comes into play here, which we will get into more detail next time ! But long story short, the neck area needs to be addressed to see further improvements to the low back pain. Just because you get shoulder pain from lifting, it does not mean its DEFINITELY a shoulder problem, always think about WHAT and WHY it's compensating load As you can see, poor ankle range is going to cause a domino effect and a whole barrage of compensations, in this case, forward leaning torso, thoracic flexion and HUGE shoulder EXTENSION (arms going backwards) ... SWIPE LEFT and you will even see how it causes the foot to collapse and knee to cave in.
