22.01.2022 KNEE/HIP PAIN WITH RUNNING If you’ve started to increase your running mileage & noticing some niggles in your knee / front of your hip, this exercise could be a game changer. .... It’s common for runners to have a quad/hip flexor dominant pattern & this can lead to increased loading over the muscles on the front of the thigh. . This exercise teaches your body to engage more support through the core (with your forearms on a foam roller) + hamstrings (by bending your knee without letting it drop). . The leg that stays on the ground also gets a solid isometric contraction that can help increase blood flow to the knee and stimulate a healing response. . Aim for 20-30 secs x 3 rounds after a run. Please let me know if you have any questions in the comments below. . Happy running #running #core #resilientrunner #corestability #adelaidemarathon

07.01.2022 Great to spend the afternoon with Richie Johnston @ La Trobe University’s gait lab, taking part in the new @trail_running_study . This study is being conducted to explore the impact of running on knee joint health in people with and without a history of knee surgery. .... The initial phase of testing involved getting an MRI on my knee (meniscus damaged playing footy 15 years ago), muscle strength testing + a detailed running analysis. . There has always been some controversy around knees & running...so this 2 year project will help clarify the risks and benefits & I look forward to sharing the outcomes of this study as they become available. .
