25.01.2022 The government has do something immediately. Tenants are asking for rent holidays because of the governments actions. They think landlords should stop charging rent as there is a freeze. They are then angry when they find landlords are unwilling or unable to give a rent holiday. Banks are NOT freezing loans in our experience, only suspending payments, which are then to be added onto the loan at the end of the suspension period, interest on interest effectively. It also ignores various other situations including retirees with no loans who use this as their income. Worse if it is their only income. Governments must give better direction immediately this issue is a hot spot as of today, when many commercial rents are now due.

The Prime Minister flagged as early as last week that the states and territories would be reviewing their tenancy laws toughen up protections for tenants hurt by the coronavirus downturn. The national cabinet was meant to discuss tenancy laws on Tuesday night, but the expansion of social distancing rules took over the meeting. These are the things were working with the states, the territories, the banks, the landlords, all of those right now, Mr Morrison told Sydneys 2GB radio. Well be looking at some lease issues tonight. Last nights meeting went on for quite a while to deal with the matters I discussed last night (social distancing).
