25.01.2022 !!Good New Flash!! We had a bearded dragon brought into us yesterday for a check up. He was found sitting on the side of the road. As far as we can tell, he has been hit by a car which caused his jaw to break. Today we did surgery to repair the bearded dragon's broken jaw. We gave a warm bath before surgery, then tubed him for the anaesthetic. Stephen tied suture material around the jaw, pulling it together and tying it into place. He was then given pain relief and anti...biotics before waking up from the surgery. We have a carer coming in to pick him up and look after him until the jaw is healed and ready to go back into the wild.

21.01.2022 Canine Parvovirus (Parvo) OUTBREAK! There has been a recent outbreak of Parvo in the South Burnett. If your pets are not already vaccinated or they are due for their vaccinations we strongly recommend they get vaccinated! You might think that your pet can't get it at home because there are no other dogs near by, but YOU can bring it home on your shoes. All you have to do is walk somewhere someone else has that has been in contact with an affected dog. ... To dogs this is worse than the CORONAVIRUS! It strips the lining from their gut and they can die very quickly. But we have the advantage that there is a vaccine for Parvo that will protect your pet very efficiently.

17.01.2022 RAT BAIT TOXICITY Currently we are seeing a lot of patients being affected by rat bait/rodenticides. This can happen if your pet ingests the bait itself or ingests an animal affected by the bait. Common signs of rodenticide poison are: - lethargy - not eating... - pale gum colour - bleeding under the skin - continuous bleeding from small cuts or wounds - coughing There is no such thing as pet safe rodenticide! If you suspect your pet has ingested rat bait or your pet is showing any of the signs above please call us on (07) 4162 5511. The earlier your pet is treated the better the outcome.

What you can do to help.... ~ leave out a water dish with a stick or rocks in it so that wildlife can drink and can get out of the water if they fall in ~ as this will help them stay hydrated

15.01.2022 Metabolic Bone Disease Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism is the most common form in captive reptiles and amphibians. Caused by low-level calcium diets which cause the parathyroid gland to produce too much hormone which then causes the body to remove calcium from the bones. ... Common signs: - Swollen hind legs - Jerky movements of head and limbs - Swollen or rubbery jaw - Misshaped shells in turtles and tortoises This will cause your pet to have problems with egg laying, constipation, eating, lethargy and stunted growth. 12.12.2021 Paralysis Ticks Paralysis ticks are out and about at the moment! These nasty critters make your pet very sick, paralysing them to the point they can't move or breathe . Even if you're in a "tick free" area, this does not include paralysis ticks, they are everywhere over the South Burnett and are distributed by wildlife. Luckily they are easily prevented using a tick prevention product. They come in a chew or spot on formula and can last anywhere from 1 month to 6 months. This medication could save your pets life!

06.12.2021 PARVOVIRUS Canine parvovirus (parvo) is a highly infectious gastrointestinal disease. Young puppies and unvaccinated dogs are at high risk for contracting it. Parvo can live in the environment for up to 9 years! Parvo is spread from dog to dog through contact with an infected dogs faeces. This includes your shoes and even your car tyres! ... Symptoms include: vomiting diarrhoea lethargy not eating This disease can be fatal but fortunately we can vaccinate your dog to help prevent them from contracting this horrible disease. 28.10.2021 Lets talk about dental disease! As you can see from the photos, the first photo the tooth has obvious plaque build up and as we place it under the blue light it turns orange. But the third photo is not as obvious and when you place it under the blue light, you can see just how much plaque there is. Plaque = Bacteria! Which means your pet can end up with a very sore and smelly mouth if left untreated. ... Book on-line or call us to make an appointment for a dental check up for your pet!

24.10.2021 Over 18 months of being retired and Mia is looking better than ever. You would never believe she is 17 (approximately 84 human years)! We miss having her around but we know she is living her best life on the farm.

16.10.2021 Native wildlife is so important, that's why we care for so many wild animals. We love treating all animals furred, feathered and scaled. This baby Tawny Frogmouth was rescued by a member of the public. He was given some food and then he was off to a wildlife carer until he could be released.
