25.01.2022 As 2019 comes to a close weve seen the residential market dip from its extraordinary highs, some positive growth in sectors of commercial construction and continuing investment in Victorian infrastructure spending. Its been a year of interesting projects at Kingfield, with the heaviest dip in our history of an 8-tonne beam & our involvement in the first Victorian renewable energy development to use local galvanized steel. We were also recognised by AFR on their Top 100 Mos...t Innovative Companies list. As someone who is new to the gal industry, my biggest takeaways in the past 4-5 months include the construction industrys increasing focus on sustainability and the commitment of builders and product manufacturers to continue reducing our environmental impact. Plus, the difference between our plant & traditional galvanizing facilities; in terms of automation, recycling initiatives and an incredibly clean working environment for our team. Id like to thank our team, our customers and the people Ive met in the broader construction and sustainability industries for welcoming me and sharing your knowledge. I wish you all a relaxing Christmas break, enjoying your families and your traditions. I look forward to working with you next year and welcoming in a positive, productive and profitable 2020 for all. Stephen Clarke See more

24.01.2022 Its great to be part of one of our states largest local infrastructure projects. The Vic Governments IS rated Level Crossing Removal Project will ultimately see the removal of 75 level crossings by 2025. Were currently supplying galvanized steel beams, bars and reinforcing mesh for the Mentone and Cheltenham rail upgrades. This includes the removal of three level crossings, lowering the rail line into trenches and restoring the heritage listed stations at these destinations. A third track will be built at Cheltenham station to support increased train services and following community consultation, station design precincts are being developed with more than three kilometres of walking and cycling paths to connect the stations.

23.01.2022 We’re proud to be a sponsor of the Point Leo Surf Life Saving Club. There’s a certain synchronicity between close proximity to our coast and the need for corrosion protection for any steel items, whether it’s structural steel housing frames, reo for a concrete slab, boat trailers or even steel storage solutions. Over the years we’ve galvanized the trailer chassis for the Pt Leo Nipper’s equipment trailer that’s taken to all the Nipper competitions across the state. We’ve re-g...alvanized the club’s multi-use trailer and most recently we galvanized a steel box that the club uses to clean the motors for their Inflatable Rescue Boats after they’ve been in the salt water. Pt Leo SLSC is run entirely by volunteers who provide beach patrol and rescue services. They’re always open to additional support, if you’re interested, check them out https://www.pointleoslsc.com/ See more

22.01.2022 Here’s one from our sister business in Darwin. This amazing galvanized steel crocodile sculpture now sits in the Darwin Botanic Gardens. It’s 9 metres long, 4.7 metres long and 1.65 metres high it’s huge! And it’s constructed from thousands of individual pieces of steel and rather than being steel fabricated. Local artist, Techy Machero designed and built this fantastic piece using traditional artisan techniques; literally an anvil & hammer. Notice the barramundi trapped in... its mouth? Our Darwin team were tasked with galvanizing the crocodile and needed to roll it around as they were immersing it, to fully galvanize this enormous piece of art. They managed to complete the task in just two dips! The piece took 4-5 years to construct and was donated by the Friends of Darwin Botanic Gardens, who raise funds through plant sales and have now donated 5 reptile sculptures to the gardens. Definitely worth a visit, when we can travel again. See more

22.01.2022 Wed like to introduce you to Basha, a member of our great production crew. Basha joined Kingfield in January this year as a General Factory Hand. He works at the galvanized steel end of our production line, cutting down work from the jigs, inspecting finished HDG components and rectifying any inconsistencies. Thoroughness and attention to detail are just some of the strengths Basha brings to this role. When asked what he enjoys most at Kingfield, Basha says its starting ear...ly to get the jobs organised and ready for transport to our customers. He also enjoys the strong teamwork and support he receives from his teammates. Outside of work Basha enjoys playing soccer and plays for Whittlesea. Hes also a passionate Melbourne City supporter. Basha trains 3-4 times a week, which that takes up most of his spare time. And when training isnt possible, Basha enjoys taking walks through the Dandenong Ranges. Welcome to our crew Basha. Its great to have you on the team. See more

17.01.2022 Its our Birthday! Kingfield Galvanizing turned 37 this week. What started as a business idea over lunch in 1983, between Colin Standfield and Clive King has evolved into Australias first state of the art, sustainable hot dip galvanizing facility. The King and Standfield families are visionaries. Following 30 years of operating a traditional galvanizing facility they decided to invest in a sustainable future for the HDG industry in Australia. Investing in plant automation, enclosed zones and German technology to build a plant that captures emissions, reduces waste and energy consumption, recycles chemicals and re-uses heat, to reduce our environmental impact. As a result, we get to enjoy a cleaner and safer workplace. Thank you, for your vision.

17.01.2022 Ever wondered what zinc really is? One way that zinc contributes to our economy is as the key material used in the hot dip galvanizing process. HDG protects steel in our buildings and infrastructure from corrosion. And with the damage caused by corrosion estimated to cost approx. 4% of a countrys GDP, HDG offers lifecycle cost benefits. So, where does zinc come from? How is it used? What happens at the end of zincs usable life? This great article, by the International Zinc Association details how zinc is continuously cycled through nature and what zincs role is in a circular economy. https://www.kingfield.com.au/zinc-our-environment/

17.01.2022 A load of Kingfield galvanized steel arrives at the Bell St to Moreland Rd level crossing removal project. A major construction blitz is underway to remove two kilometres of rail and raise the rail line over the road, removing four level crossings and building two new train stations. On completion, the project will provide locals with access to 2.5kms of parklands, with pedestrian and cycling paths. We're proud to be part of another IS rated project.

16.01.2022 Heres another local story of innovation that relates to improved safety on our roads & Kingfield is a proud supply partner of their galvanized steel products. Safe Direction is the first Australian company to deliver an approved end-to-end, fully MASH compliant steel beam guardrail system for our roads; integrating their RamShield guardrail barrier system with MSKT guardrail end terminals. MASH (Manual of Assessing Safety Hardware) prescribes a stringent set of crash tests t...o validate barrier systems before they can be approved for use on our road networks. The rollout of MASH is a remarkable enhancement to the safety of our roads that will be instrumental in reducing road fatalities and trauma. Why? Well the new road barrier system caters for a wider set of run off impacts, are proven to work in varied temperature environments, function effectively, independent of their installation length and ensure greater containment capacity to safely redirect and/or arrest errant vehicles to a safe stop. This innovative Australian manufacturer expanded their operations into Victoria in 2019 to be well positioned for the January 2020 shift to MASH compliant guardrail barriers and end terminals. Heres some of their local installations. See more

13.01.2022 Kingfield is open for business and trading as usual. We are following government guidelines and have strict measures in place to manage the health risks associated with COVID-19 for staff and site visitors. In these unprecedented times, as we work together to flatten the curve and keep our businesses viable for a brighter future, the opportunity to support local content grows exponentially. By supporting our local farmers, local industries and Australian product manufacturers we can create a circular economy of Australians supporting Australians. From building materials, to food and clothing, how we connect and how we recycle, if we think local, we can take a small step toward supporting each others wellbeing. Stay safe and healthy.

12.01.2022 Another great Australian producer, Mefco manufacture transmission and distribution hardware for the electrical power industry. What exactly is this? Well if you look up at those power poles we drive past on most surburban streets, youll notice hardware components & these serve 4 key functions. They support the transmission line insulation system to electrical load limits and mechanical load limits, create an interface between the insulators and conductors to safely transfer loads and theyre designed for whole of life efficiencies to reduce maintenance and replacement costs. Mefco have been producing these components since 1974. Starting in Maryborough, before developing a new ISO9001 certified manufacturing complex in Sunshine, Vic. Just another example of a local producers supporting our local infrastructure needs.

12.01.2022 As Melbourne heads back into lockdown, our doors will remain open. We continue to operate as usual during this time, to hot dip galvanize and deliver your fabricated steel components. Our team is following government guidelines and we have strict measures in place to manage health risks associated with COVID-19 for our staff and all site visitors. Stay safe and healthy.

12.01.2022 What are some of the unique features of our HDG plant? Heres one its called a Scrubber and it collects corrosive emissions from our enclosed pre-treatment zone, then scrubs the air, separating VOCs and returning these to the pre-treatment baths before releasing cleaned air to the environment. The Scrubber helps us to significantly reduce the emissions our plant releases to the atmosphere and dramatically reduces the corrosive environment within an HDG plant. The value of... a Scrubber has even been noticed by our Fire Equipment provider who has stated, at our old plant I replaced many fire extinguishers, hose reels and fire hose well ahead of the expected life span mainly due to the corrosion factor and at our new plant, in just over 2 years I am seeing NO sign of the above problems, extinguishers, hose reels and exit lighting are still in perfect condition. The Scrubber delivers benefits for the environment, has a positive impact on our plant & equipment and contributes to a cleaner workplace for our people. See more

07.01.2022 It was great to host Australasian Corrosion Association members from across the construction, infrastructure and urban development industries, for a tour of the Kingfield plant yesterday. There was plenty of interaction and interesting questions from individuals who are involved in the design and specification of structures across Australia. With a key objective to maximise the lifetime value of a project, preventing and controlling corrosion of these structures is critical. ...Did you know that that 85% of our population lives within 50 kilometres of the coast? And that corrosion is estimated to cost > 4% of a countrys GDP? Thanks for coming along everyone, it was great to see the range of companies represented; from GHD Group and Infracorr Consulting to ITW Construction Systems and City West Water we hope you enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did!
