10.01.2022 Last month at Turnstone! What an apt site for this study as the house was named after these birds that you can see on the beach right in front of the house. www.kingislandbreaks.com.au Since March 2007 a team of 10 people from the Victorian Waders Study Group(WSG ) has visited King Island twice a year for 9 day visits to undertake a long term research programme on the Ruddy Turnstone. The use of geolocators for tracking studies has also been pioneered by extensive deployment... of these on Ruddy Turnstones on King Island since March 2010. They have shown, inter alia, that most of these tiny birds ( up to 160 grams) leave King Island early in April and fly 7500kms non-stop to Taiwan as the first leg of their northward migration. And in case you are concerned.....ALL birds were released and happily flew away after the team studied them. By now they are in Taiwan !!

09.01.2022 WE have been enjoying great support from Tasmanians deciding to see their own state during the Covid lockdowns . The direct flights from Hobart have helped a lot .
