19.01.2022 HELLO VICTORIA From Friday, those travelling to Tasmania from Victoria will not be required to quarantine, but will be health screened at the border along with our other visitors and I know this will be welcomed by so many who have been waiting months to reunite with loved ones. People arriving in Tasmania from Victoria from this date should register their travel and contact details via the Tas e-Travel system to receive a Tas e-Travel QR code. Public Health is continuing to ...monitor the situation in South Australia, and we will provide a further update regarding current restrictions tomorrow. To keep on top of COVID so we can keep doing the things we love, all Tasmanians and those visiting our state, must work together and follow the rules that keep us safe. These include washing your hands, covering your coughs and sneezes, staying home if you’re unwell and getting tested even if you have mild symptoms. Please also keep up to date with the restrictions that we have in place, and where our testing clinics are by visiting www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au

07.01.2022 Tasmania on track to open borders with NSW this Friday & December 1 has been indicated as the date the Govt hopes to relax border restrictions with Victoria. The Tasmanian Government confirmed current border restrictions between Tasmania and NSW will be relaxed from 12.01am this Friday, 6 November. This is in line with our sensible glide-path approach to easing border restrictions, with Public Health officials advising the Deputy State Controller that the very low number o...f recent unexplained cases in NSW, 2 in the last 28 days, means that it is safe for people to enter Tasmania from NSW without quarantine. Travellers coming into Tasmania from NSW from Friday will be able to enter our state without quarantine, however they will still be subject to health screening at our air and sea ports, including being asked to have a COVID test if necessary. Cases numbers in Victoria are also very low, with no new cases in recent days and several complex outbreaks appearing to be controlled. December 1 has been indicated as the date by which we hope to relax border restrictions with Victoria. Public Health will provide advice on the prospect of an earlier first step of enabling safe home quarantine for people travelling from Victoria to Tasmania in the coming weeks.

06.01.2022 GREAT NEWS, WE ARE COMING BACK!!! NEW OWNERS FOR KING ISLAND COURIER In great news for the King Island community, trusted local newspaper the King Island Courier has been sold and will return to publication early in 2021.... Font has today completed a sale agreement with King Island Press for the purchase of the King Island Courier newspaper. Font partner Brad Stansfield said that the King Island Courier has been a trusted and integral part of King Island’s social and economic fabric since 1972 until its recent closure, and Font was delighted to have had the opportunity to save it. As a former editor of the King Island Courier, I well understand just how important this newspaper is to the tight-knit King Island community, he said. Regional newspaper publishing is under pressure right around the country, and we are proud of the fact that at Font we have put together a business model which allows us to sustainably and profitably keep trusted flagship institutions such as the King Island Courier in publication. The King Island Courier is the third regional newspaper which Font has acquired and brought back to life after closure. Former owner and editor of the King Island Courier, Kath Hunter said: After running the newspaper for 17 years, I am thrilled to have found a buyer for the King Island Courier who is able to ensure its continued operation. I am confident with the newspaper now in the hands of owners which includes one of its former editors, it has a long and bright future, serving the people of King Island. The acquisition of the King Island Courier takes Font’s stable of newspapers to seven (Tasmanian Country, Derwent Valley Gazette, Sorell Times, Tasman Gazette, East Coast View, Tasmanian Business Reporter (under licence from TCCI) and now King Island Courier).

05.01.2022 Day 2 of our adventure. Yesterday we had a gruelling 7 hour endurance day with 4 meter swells and a squall as we approached King Island. We were accompanied by ...numerous joyful dolphins for long periods of time. Today we are back for more with similar conditions as we make our way towards Apollo Bay. We were looked after well by King Island. Thank you very much Marie Reed for providing us with a beautiful dinner and breakfast, King Island Boat Club for the use of their facilities and the gentleman with his boat who assisted us securing our skis for the night at Grassy Harbour. We are refuelling at the Grassy Harbour warf this morning and will purchase 600 litres of fuel between the 6 of us. We would like to remind you that we are on this adventure to promote Lifeline Tasmania. Please donate generously.
