25.01.2022 38 years ago today fires rages in Victoria and South Australia. That day we now know as the Ash Wednesday. It was known as the most deadly fire prior to Black Saturday. Today we remember those lost.

23.01.2022 Today is RUOK day. We at Kinglake CFA would like to ask that if you have any concerns about a family member, friend or neighbour, or even about how you have been feeling, to please start a conversation with someone. Just a simple "Hello", can change things for many. Here are some great tips on what to say, and how to start the conversation.

18.01.2022 Today is the first day of winter and it's important that everyone is responsible for their own home fire safety during the cooler months. Here's the preventative measures you can take to keep your household safe.

17.01.2022 Did you know that the Shire has simplified our Burn-off laws? There have been some changes in order to make it much easier for you to clean up your properties. Here I have given you some links to the new laws. More information about these conditions can be found on the Murrindindi Shire Council website at www.murrindindi.vic.gov.au/burningoff or here is the link to the Murrindindi Shire Council Community Local Law where the guidelines can be found on pages 18 Open Air Burning and 43 Schedule 5 Burning of Vegetation Piles on Land Less Than One Hectare and Schedule 6 Burning of Vegetation Piles on Land Greater than One Hectare www.murrindindi.vic.gov.au/Your-Coun/Local-Laws-and-Permits

15.01.2022 Today is the 12th anniversary of the tragic event of Black Saturday. We at Kinglake Fire Brigade would like to ask if people could please take a moment to stop, remember and reflect on the lives we lost and those that were both directly and indirectly affected by these fires. Another year on, We Remember those whom Ran From It, And those whom Have fallen,... The Ones We Loved and Cherished, Another year on, We Remember those Brave Souls Who fought it Another year on, We've rebuilt Another year on, We've Changed, Another year on, Australia's Worst Natural Disaster ... Another year on, We Remember..... 7/2/09 #Author unknown With all the struggles of life please do not do it alone. Ask for help and keep in touch with your family and friends. Alternatively keep an eye out for those who may be struggling. Remember you are not alone. 7 February 2009 46.4C maximum temperature 173 lives lost 400+ fires 414 injured 2,029 homes destroyed 7,567 people displaced 78 communities directly impacted 358 career firefighting personnel deployed 19,000+ CFA/FFMV members involved 450,000+ hectares burnt It was Black Saturday. Today we remember those that lost their lives, their homes, their properties, their loved ones, and their animals, and gratefully thank all those who worked tirelessly to bring an end to the devastation on that day, and in the immensely difficult days that followed. The people, communities and landscapes of Victoria were forever changed that day. We stand with those who with great hope and courage are still grieving and recovering, and acknowledge those who continue to work with affected individuals and communities. Together, we remember.

15.01.2022 Last Sunday night we were paged to a horse stuck in a fence. With the help of Kinglake SES and Arthur's Creek CFA Large Animal Resce Unit and local vet Smon Bray, the horse was able to be freed and is now doing fine. A great example of one of the many things we do. Credit to the original post by Arthurs Creek and Strathewan CFA

13.01.2022 Today we remember those Police men and women who have lost their lives on the job. This was our tribute to the four members lost in Kew on April this year. Our thoughts are with all families and friends of members that have passed and also to those that have been affected both mentally and physically due to their job. In these times we also must think of those who currently serve, and thank them for their service.

13.01.2022 National Police Rememberance Day, 29 September. We often work closely with the police, as they are a part of our emergency services family. Let's pay tribute to those that have made the ultimate sacrifice, losing their lives on the job.

12.01.2022 Remember Daylight Savings, change your clocks tonight.

10.01.2022 Have you checked your flue?

08.01.2022 Everyone in Victoria who lives near dense forest, bush, grassland or the coast needs to prepare their property for bushfire. Below are some tips from Captain Ko...ala on preparing your property: Roof gutters - Keep gutters and roof areas clear of leaf litter. Leaf litter in guttering is a ember ignition point. Keep grass short - Keep grass cut to less than 10cm. Fire can ignite and travel quickly through long grass. Mowing and slashing can greatly reduce fine fuel levels. Leaves and Twigs - Get rid of dry grass, leaves, twigs and loose bark. Less fuel = less fire. Prune shrubs -Prune lower branches of shrubs to separate from surface fuels underneath. Prune shrubs well away from branches of mature trees. Cut back branches - Cut back overhanging tree branches close to property no branches in 10m space. For more information on preparing your property please see here: https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare #CKDoesSummerPreparation #LessFuelEqualsLessFire #PlanAndPrepare #CleanUpBeforeABushfireDoes

08.01.2022 It's that time of the year again. The Murrindindi Shire has prepared some guidelines for the coming Fire Danger Period. These can be found on their website.- As follows: For the duration of the CFA Declared Fire Danger Period, grass must be managed in the following manner:... *Residential area - CUT AND REMOVE all grass and weeds to a height of 75 mm or less above the natural surface of the ground using manual or mechanical equipment. *Non-residential area: CUT A SIX METRE FIRE BREAK around the property boundaries by slashing or otherwise, to a height of 75mm or less above the natural surface of the ground. Those not complying with the above conditions will be issued with a Fire Prevention Notice. Failure to comply with a Fire Prevention Notice will result in fines exceeding $1600. To report a property as a potential fire hazard, please do so by completing our customer request form. You cannot light a fire in the open air unless you have a permit or comply with certain requirements. If you don't obtain a permit, you could be breaking the law and may be faced with heavy fines and/or prosecuted. You must also notify ESTA of your burn-off as contained in your permit. Otherwise brigades will be called out unnecessarily. See more

07.01.2022 To our wonderful community. I am writing to say that if our page disappears it will be due to Facebook removing it due it not being verified. Other brigades have had this happen. But never fear, I am in the process of trying to get it verified. Apparently this is a bit of a process, and I hope it doesn't affect all the work our volunteers have put in, to contribute to it. So if you see a little blue tick on the page it has been done. Take care, stay safe and warm.

07.01.2022 A message from your local brigade. As of tomorrow CFA permanent staff will become members of FRV, Fire Rescue Victoria. We would like to tell our community that Kinglake is in a CFA area and is still a volunteer service, and our volunteers are still committed to protecting lives and property. ... We will continue to support our local community and those outside our community, when the need arises and remain true to our mission statement as follows: Our Vision CFA is a volunteer and community-based fire and emergency services organisation. Our vision is to work together with communities to keep Victorians safe from fire and other emergencies. Our Mission To protect lives and property. Our Values As we evolve to remain a modern and progressive emergency services organisation, it's our core values that anchor and guide us. They are practical behaviours that reflect how we all want to be treated. We put Safety first. We Respect each other. We act with Integrity. We work Together as one. We are Adaptive and agile.

06.01.2022 Please note : The Fire Danger Period is now in force. At this time it is an offence to light a fire without the appropriate documentation or if it does not meet the requirements found on the ‘Can I Can’t I’ document found on the CFA website or readily available from your local brigade. There is zero tolerance to the lighting of fires, unless authorised to do so, and the appropriate authorities will be contacted. The Can I Can’t I will also tell you what you can do on a day of Total Fire Ban, and can be downloaded at cfa.Vic.gov.au or contact the Murrindindi Shire offices.

06.01.2022 We often work closely with the police, as they are a part of our emergency services family. Let's pay tribute to those that have made the ultimate sacrifice, losing their lives on the job.

06.01.2022 Today we have 3 of our members volunteer to go out and help with the search for William Callaghan on Mt Disappointment. Lets hope that he is found safe and that all come home safe and well.

04.01.2022 Most people will be aware of Facebook’s decision today to shut down the pages of news outlets and some other pages have also been impacted such as the BOM page, and this is a good reminder to not rely on a single source of information. It’s now a time to think about where you get your information when it comes to warnings and advice. Important to note that the Vic Emergency page has not been impacted, download the Vic Emergency app, also get to know who your emergency broadcasters are, or here are some other ways you can stay informed. Please download the Vic Emergency App and be aware of other ways too stay informed.

04.01.2022 Spread the word Santa is coming to Kinglake. We are pleased to announce that the Annual Santa Run will take place on the 20th of December. If Santa is not coming down your road please go to one of the roads nearby.... Parents please ensure you and the children stay to your side of the road, for your safety. If we go past on one side and you are on a main road we will most likely come back. Listen out for the sirens and you will know Santa is close. See more
