23.01.2022 We’re recruiting! Do you know any stand out, community minded, nature embracing phenomenal early childhood educators who are interested in joining our amazing centre? Please share among your personal contacts. You can view our add at the link below.

21.01.2022 We are so keen to be getting back to Bush Kinder!! Immersion in Nature does wonders for the soul, Here is our friend Tony from Parks Victoria guiding a mindfulness walk at Jeosaphat Gully on beautiful Wurundjeri Country. These will certainly feature in our programs in term three. We really are lucky to have this stunning bushland around us. Why not give it a try, keen to hear how you get on!

21.01.2022 I went walking.. What did you see? I saw bullen bullen looking at me! ... A lovely close up encounter with bullen bullen today captivated the children. They truly are magical birds and the masters of camouflage... can you spot her in the bushes? If you haven’t made it down to Masons Falls lately we highly recommend the trip... nice and quiet now with lock downs in place, just locals in the park.

21.01.2022 Huge thanks to our fabulous cook Jodie for her relentless pursuit of gastronomic deliciousness for the children of our community. We love your work . - @Lower Hume Primary Care Partnership Congratulations Kinglake Ranges Childrens Centre on achieving your Healthy Eating Advisory Service menu assessment approval. This ensure that children attending your service are receiving the dietary requirements for long day care services. ... Thank you for your continued commitment to the Smiles 4 Miles program and creating better oral health outcomes for your community. For more information on how your early childhood service can create a healthier menu please visit http://foodchecker.heas.health.vic.gov.au/

19.01.2022 Across our centre many children have been fascinated with Taungurung and Wurundjeri creation stories. During NAIDOC week we worked across three and four year old kinder to illustrate some of these stories. This artwork tells the story of how Waang brought wind to the world, which blew Bundjil up into the sky. To make Waang we ground charcoal (from a previous bush kinder fire) to make the black paint, and local ochre to make the brown. ... Bundjil was made from leaves found at bush kinder.

18.01.2022 School transitions begin this week and our bubup (children) are getting excited about starting school. To continue to support their language and literacy we took to writing our names in playdough and clay this week using alphabet cards as a reference. Good luck at school this week team, we know you will be amazing!

17.01.2022 "The amount that Araliya has learnt about Country has been amazing, to the point that she has also passed on so much knowledge to her family too. Well done, can’t give you and the team high enough praise, I wish Bush was a subject for kids to do at school so they could extend on what you’ve done!!" EXCITING NEWS! We are appearing in 2 books celebrating connection with country and bush kinders/schools across Australia. Thank you for your ongoing support for our amazing program and helping to bring rich and meaningful learning and strong mental health programs to life.

17.01.2022 #phoenixcups #understandingchildren At KRCC we have a different way of understanding and connecting with children. It’s based on the 5 basic human life needs of Freedom, Connection, Safety, Mastery and Fun. Everyone has a unique profile of needs which drives our one-size-fits-one approach to guiding children.... What’s your profile? Take the quiz and learn a little more about the Phoenix Cups Framework.

16.01.2022 Joy. Personified. Our bush kinder program has been developed with mental health and well-being in mind. Our friend here skipped all the way back along the track from the waterfall to the Masons Falls picnic area this week, stopping to admire the swan river daisy in flower along the way.... Where’s your happy place?

16.01.2022 Risk taking encourages problem solving, critical thinking and has been identified as a prerequisite to fluent reading - Lisa Murphy. So monkey bars don’t seem too risky right? Let’s add some context: this lad just turned 2. He can climb, swing and hook his foot over the bar to return. Over the past month many of our youngest children (under 3) are displaying their competence on the monkey bars. This physical play is a vital foundation skill for learning and feeds into liter...acy and numeracy learning in future. You can’t get this development from a desk or worksheet. These are some of the reasons why our curriculum is focused on physical play. To hear our early childhood teachers talk on foundation skills for learning visit https://www.kinglakerangescc.org.au/kinderathome

16.01.2022 Wattles are highly versatile and a vital plant for the Kulin People of Victoria. Did you know you can make a great soap from rubbing blackwood leaves and also seed pods (available in summer). Apparently these have antibacterial properties... At any rate, its great fun and really effective. Why not take a bush walk this weekend and have a go at making bush soap yourself. (some trees work better than others by the way - but we don't know why that is).

15.01.2022 We had a few special visitors at bush kinder today... Bulen Bulen (lyrebirds). We noticed the wattles starting to ‘pop’... As Muyan (silver wattle) starts to flower it signifies the change to wattle season and the end of Bulen Bulen magestic courtship calls. These birds will be in full swing for just a few more weeks so nows a great time for Kinglake locals to enjoy our beautiful parks with no one else around!

14.01.2022 Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! How magical Mother Nature has been today. We’ve had wonderful explorations and descriptive language used while playing in snow! Our garden space looked so beautiful with its white blanket, we thought we’d share the beauty with you... (the children’s explorations will appear on Storypark tonight).

14.01.2022 As reconciliation week draws to a close, we are missing bush kinder and our connections with country. We thought we'd take you on a little walk through country to share some of the knowledge our bush kinder children would usually be learning at this time of the year. This information was passed along to us through various professional development sessions with Victorian Elders.... First up - did you know we are currently in wombat season here in Kinglake?

14.01.2022 Maggie's kind and warm approach in guiding young children's behaviour is worth listening to.

13.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all our Fathers and Special People in our children’s lives!

13.01.2022 From our family to yours...Merry Christmas.

13.01.2022 Check out our afternoon of maths and language exploration at 3-yr old bush kinder yesterday. Our learning crosses over between kinder at the centre and out bush and we find this combination is key for holistic development, understanding and strong mental health. All this enjoyed in our stunning (and now very quiet) National Parks.

12.01.2022 Muyan, the silver wattle holds great significance for the Kulin people of Victoria. Its flowering symbolises the end of the cold, and the coming of the warmer weather. Eels begin moving along the yarra providing a vital food source. The Kulin people have used all parts of wattles for thousands of years from the bark for medicine, rope and footwear, the gum for eating and as a bush bandaid right through to the seeds for eating. But there is another reason why muyan is a significant symbol for anyone living on Ngarrak (the mountain)...have a listen to find out.

11.01.2022 Great advice from Early Childhood and Parenting Expert Maggie Dent. Consider this before deciding whether or not to send your 4-yr-old to school. http://www.essentialkids.com.au//deciding-whether-or-not-t

11.01.2022 We are proud to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which our centre sits; the Taungurung People of the Kulin Nations. And also the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nations who are the traditional owners of the land on which our bush kinder sites are located. We pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging on this, the start of NAIDOC week. What a privilege it has been to be teaching and learning on country in this beautiful Mountain Range we call home. What country to do live on?

11.01.2022 Play is the work of children - Maria Montessori. Here’s a snapshot of our work day.

09.01.2022 Always a pleasure to showcase our Bush Kinder program, particularly with people who inspire our thinking. Thanks Niki Buchan Natural Learning

09.01.2022 We were lucky enough to have Niki Buchan visit us at KRCC on Monday to deliver training on Schemas and programming for our under 3 team and an all team session on loose parts. What a great learning opportunity for us all.

07.01.2022 Bracken is widely considered a weed - but it is a great bush medicine and widely used across Australia for a range of purposes including for insect bites...

07.01.2022 Did you know native plants such as eucalyptus leaves and bark create wonderful natural dyes? Katie West, a Yindjibarndi woman shows us how. Perhaps we might have a go ourselves! We could use some new cushion covers.

06.01.2022 Thank you Middle Kinglake Primary School for hosting us for the Gumnuts Music Program today. We had a great time clapping out the syllables of our name, moving our bodies in different ways to different music and exploring a range of instruments. Music provides a wonderful platform for growing language due to its rhythm, rhyme and repetitive nature. Looking forward to our next visit!

05.01.2022 Shelving old fashioned behaviour management techniques and adopting a neuroscience-proven guidance approach to support children in regulating their own behaviour, has been key in the success of our bush kinder program. Our program continues to expand... now a regular feature in 4 and 3 year old kinder. Last week our littlest explorers (under 3’s) went beyond the gate. Earlier this year our program caught the attention of the Victorian Inclusion Agency. Check out the article in the latest VIA magazine, Embrace.

04.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educators Day to our Amazing team.
