24.01.2022 A wonderful post by Chelsie McEnearney on behalf of her great uncle Ivan McKay. Ivan, along with Mavis Gilmore were instrumental in convincing the Tweed Shire Council that a formal path and viewing platform were necessary to allow ambulant and wheelchair patients from the Feros/Wommin Bay Nursing Village to 'View the Sea'. This pathway and surrounds are maintained by Kingscliff RSL with repair provided by Tweed Shire Council and weed control overseen by Dunecare

23.01.2022 ANZAC Day approaches. Full range of services (Cudgen, Kingscliff Dawn, Kingscliff Main) Gunfire Breakfast at the Bowls Club and lunch at Cudgen Leagues Club (please book for these events)

21.01.2022 KINGSCLIFF RSL: I have been reliably informed that Anzac Day marches will not be conducted in Pottsville, Twin Towns or Murwillumbah. Kingscliff have agreed to go ahead with a march but the Council has to first approve our Covid-19 Plan. Yesterday's Telegraph stated that Sydney's march could now be extended from 500 to 5000 which would influence a number of units to attend although they are still not allowed to carry banners - this leaves RSLs in very difficult positions as t...hese seemingly simple arrangements take an inordinate amount of time to arrange. Kingscliff RSL has opted to proceed under these restrictions, rework our program to suit the conditions and combine the two dawn services into one (which has been the plan for some time). Therefore, at this point in time: Cudgen Dawn Service: Short march will commence 5.25am in Clark Street followed by Dawn Service. Kingscliff Gunfire Breakfast: 7am at Kingscliff Bowls and Sports Club Kingscliff Main Anzac Day Service: Will commence with a march from the Bowls Club at 10.30am - some shade and seating will be provided - registration will be necessary and sanitiser will be available Council advise that the 2 square metre rule for social distancing will apply Poppies and memorabilia will be on sale on the days leading up to Anzac Day HELP US TO MAKE IT A GOOD DAY FOR YOU! 20.01.2022 Vale: Robert Brumfit It is with great sadness that I advise that ex President of Kingscliff RSL Sub Branch Robert Brumfit has passed away. Robert was a long term, dedicated member of our Sub Branch and a great supporter of our activities. A funeral service will be conducted at Melaleuka Crematorium on Friday 26th February at 11.30am

19.01.2022 Kingscliff RSL and Kingscliff High School review ANZAC Day. Brian and school captains Juan and Grace review the success of the Kingscliff Anzac Day Dawn Service

18.01.2022 ANZAC DAY 2021 A 'Gunfire Breakfast' will be held in the Kingscliff Beach and Bowls club but limited to Veteran and 1 x Family member. Breakfast will not be advertised as available to the public, club has a limit of 300 accommodated in 3 seperate areas. RSL will take take responsibility for the distribution of breakfast vouchers and Bowls club will seek assistance from their directors for registering attendees, QR code. A formal lunch will not be available this year due t...o the difficulty of associated logistics although normal lunch arrangements will be provided by the clubs and restaurants around town A separate plan will be provided for registration of marchers and seated participants

18.01.2022 Leaving army has been difficult. It is not a walk in the park. But I am determined to make it work!... Contributing to my local remembrance day service will be an absolute honour. 11th November. 10 am. Rowan Robinson Park. Kingscliff. I am playing this song as well as delivering a special speech! And a shout out to all veterans doing it tough. We are a team, even out here in civilian land. It has definately helped me to feel the support! Special thanks to the team at the Brothers Restaurant Kingscliff. You can thrive out here because our training can serve the community. It is that ability to endure hardships that people around you need most. Even though it may not seem like it. You have a sense of teamship and initiative that people need. If you are doing it tough and finding it hard. Become your best in a way that meets your needs. If not for yourself. For those that care about you. Peace.

18.01.2022 GREAT TURNOUT FOR VIETNAM VETERAN'S DAY; A very good crowd turned out for Vietnam Veteran's/Long Tan Day on Sunday at Tweed Heads South Bowling Club. Guest speaker was Mr Peter Scott a tunnel rat who spoke on the attack on Fire Support Base Anderson in Vietnam in 1969. Many thanks go to Victor Slockee for again organising and MCing the event - over 200 turned up for lunch. A good event, well conducted and well respected

16.01.2022 An inspiration to all veterans, sometimes it's not what is behind you but what you put in front of yourself. For those who don't know, while being carried to the helicopter after losing 2 legs in an IED (improvised explosive device) blast Curtis said, 'I'll win gold in the next Paralympics', he has gone on to do that and so much more. Always keep moving forward.

16.01.2022 Kingscliff RSL: ANZAC Day 2021 Although very little direction has been provided for ANZAC Day activities, Kingscliff RSL will follow the same basic formula that allowed us to conduct a successful Remembrance Day in November. The following will occcur; a. We will conduct a Dawn service at Cudgen Public school at 5.30am with a short march, full service and coffee and Anzac biscuits - maximum numbers allowable - 300 b. We will conduct a march (veterans and next of kin only) at 1...0.30am followed by a full service at Rowan Robinson Park - maximum numbers allowable -500 Check in table will be provided along with hand sanitiser. Social distancing is a mandatory requirement Additional details will be provided once finalized

15.01.2022 An insight into the benefits of ARes service

15.01.2022 Don't forget Vietnam Veteran's/Long Tan Day this Sunday 18th August - service at Tweed Heads South Bowls Club at 10am

15.01.2022 Another great ANZAC commemoration with Kingscliff RSL completing 7 services for schools, organisations and the community of Kingscliff - getting a little tougher to do but the community interest and support is amazing and rewarding - the main service was followed up by 100 people attending our ANZAC luncheon at the Leagues Club - I have put together a collection of photos of as many different groups as I could to highlight the diverse range of support we received. I apologise... for no photos from the Cudgen Dawn Service which was ably conducted by WO1 Adam Mills and well orchestrated by Cudgen School - 1 main speaker at each of the three services this year and all of them were ladies - all of them spoke beautifully with Christie Bavage bravely and eloquently constructing a speech outlining the problems the military is now facing at the conclusion of the Afghanistan War - Christie spoke with passion and concern and reached the inner depths of the audience, very deeply in some cases - a wonderful narrative See more

13.01.2022 Brian was invited to attend a visit to HQ 41st Battalion RNSWR Lismore by the Governor of NSW Her Excellency The Honorouable Margaret Beasely AO, QC and Mr Dennis Wilson. A select audience was provided with a very brief presentation on the battalion's history and a short weapons demonstration. This was an excellent afternoon. The afteroon was hosted by CO of the Battalion LTCOL Andrew McPhee

10.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY: What a great way to try to re-establish our lives to a level of normalcy that we all once enjoyed. Clear guidelines, a great venue and beautiful weather. Needless to say we had about 100 people gathered for our Remembrance Day service yesterday at the cenotaph at Rowan Robinson Park. The service was MC'd by John Murray, gues speaker was the President of Kingscliff RSL COL Russell Maddalena CSM, the prayers were led by Father Paul McDonal, the Ode recited b...y Christie Bavage, the Poem by Aaron Barnes and the music was recorded by Geoff Dart - the Robinson family attended the service along with the Buckmans, members of the RSL, the school captains of the Kingscliff High School, the section leaders from St Anthony's Catholic School and members of the general public A very good event with the extra work provided to meet the Covid 19 restrictions - thank you to all those who assisted particularly David Field and Barry and Gail Synot

09.01.2022 We were dissapointed that we couldn't pay our respects to those in the services the way we usually would on ANZAC Day so we have written this song. This goes ou...t to all of those who have sacrificed so much for our amazing country. "We Will Never Forget You". To Download a copy of this track visit www.hypeduo.com.au Cheers, Grug and Micko See more

09.01.2022 Our poppy ladies have been out with our poppy men and despite a limited range sales for ANZAC Day have been steady with the community once again embracing this special day. Carole and Evelyn today selling in the Kingscliff Mall Brian and John also visited the Feros Wommin Bay Nursing Village where a service was conducted for a very appreciative crowd

08.01.2022 Kingscliff Veterans, local gym Xcell Health & Fitness Kingscliff has Exercise Physiologist Jayden Chadburn helping out local veteran on the recovery, See your GP and get a referral, supporting local.

08.01.2022 VALE: It is with great sadness that I advise two of our long serving members have passed away this week. The first is Alice Margaret Walker of 113 Occupational Therapy Unit RGH Concorde NSW who was a long time member of our sub branch and Trevor Sheahan A Company 9RAR who served in the same company as myself in Vietnam 1968/69. Our sincerest condolences go out to both families

07.01.2022 Late last year we had an idea that seemed to make good sense - we decided that to get the bulk of the large crowds that now attend our Anzac Days away from Marine Parade and to make better use of Rowan Robinson Park we would investigate re-badging the ocean side of the cenotaph and conducting the service on the Eastern side centred on the park. We did some measuring and pontificating and seemed to get consensus that it was, in fact, a good idea. Much has yet to be done as the... cenotaph is a heritage listed site and as such any work/amendment/alterations made to the site have to be approved - we started work on this. We also got quotes on the service badges that would have to be applied to the cenotaph and applied for a grant. The grant was denied. The news of this was picked up by the Rotary Club of Kingscliff and I was asked, by Carolyn Byrne to provide a history and presentation to the club - this I did and they agreed to help me raise the money independently. So far we have had pledges from Kingscliff Lions, Tweed Neighbourhood Watch, Kingscliff Rotary and Kingscliff chamber of Commerce - I wish to thank Carolyn, Rotary and these other wonderful contributors for advancing this project to a point where I can almost say I am back in control - Brian See more

06.01.2022 Kingscliff RSL were back on the job today; it seems like years but both the President and the Vice President did presentations to local schools this morning and our badge sellers were in the mall selling merchandise. Anzac day presentations at St. Anthony's Catholic School and Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar school were very well received and appreciated by staff and the student bodies - we felt particularly good about it also. Merchandise will be on sale at the mall again tomorrow and in Marine Parade on Sunday morning - thank you to the volunteers members for their efforts

06.01.2022 WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE RSL Construction Engineers completed their inspection last week and have provided their findings to the the Board of the Leagues Club. Electricity has now been restored and this will provide us with an opportunity to move all salvaged items over to the bus sheds and commence final sorting prior to cleaning. We are also finalising our claim for the insurance company - this is not a small task - we have also been seeking an office to provide basic servi...ces to our members - a couple of options have already been identified. Additionally, we have taken out a lease on a shed at the Storage Kings to have a clean, dry location to place all items as they are repaired/restored - this will be a slow process. We are proceeding cautiously and have been fully supported by the Leagues Club and some wonderful individuals - thank you Kingscliff See more

05.01.2022 An Update on RSL Club Room: Despite some very encouraging rumours circulating around Kingscliff it would seem very little of our furniture and memorabilia is salvageable from the recent fire in the Cudgen Leagues Club - smoke, water and heat have done a lot of damage which has meant that most items have been affected in some way and are unlikely to be restored. Malcolm and Patricia are sorting through all the items today particularly in the search for records and books of account. It is anticipated Insurance Assessors will visit early next week;

05.01.2022 On Wed 5th June Kingscliff RSL dedicated two more plaques to the memorial walkway and provided a 'Volunteers Morning Tea' for all our supporters and workers throughout the year. Crisp, clear morning with a zephyr of a chilly breeze but over 60 people turned up to commemorate the recognition of National Service in Australia and acknowledge the courage of members of the Peacekeeping force who took part in operation Tamar in Rwanda in the late 90's. Justine Elliott MP provided the opening address and Tony Van Sleeuwin and COL Russell Madellena provided the dedication of the plaques

04.01.2022 A sneak peak of a ballad that is going to be performed this Remembrance Day

03.01.2022 Another project completed which was a year in the making. This project provided a reverse set of plaques for Kingscliff cenotaph (which is a registered Heritage site) for which funds were raised and the plaques applied locally - originally suggested by Brad Buttson the cenotaph can now cater for services held within Rowan Robinson Park. A huge vote of thanks must go to the Kingscliff District Chamber of Commerce, Kingscliff Rotary, Kingscliff Lions, Tweed Valley Neighbourhood Watch, Kingfisher Day Club, Ray's Kingscliff Hire and Landscape and Terry Everest for the painstaking task of applying the plaques to the polished stone substrate - we will all see the benefit of this effort on Anzac Day. Kingscliff RSL is extremely grateful.

03.01.2022 Vale: Sadly, the RSL lost two of it's very valued members this week in Athol Hollingsworth and Leslie John 'Stevo' Stephenson - tribute services were conducted at Melaleuca Station this week - Lest We Forget!
