25.01.2022 What is a Diastasis Recti Separation? How do you know if you have one? A diastasis recti (DA) separation is most commonly experienced in women post-birth, however men and children can also have this thinning and widening of the linea alba. ... For the purpose of this post however, I will refer to women who have had a baby and have a post-birth DA. When a women is pregnant and her abdominal wall is expanding it is absolutely normal that the DA will open. It is then common that most women will have a 1 finger widening a week post birth, this is not considered a concern by professionals. It is considered more of a concern when the DA does not spontaneously heal in the postpartum period. The approach to healing the DA is an area of study that I stay up to date on with the latest research, and this research is still evolving in it’s evidence based approach. What has led me to a deep understanding of this clinical area? My own journey of healing a DA and public symphysis separation, managing a linea alba tear and then progressing the abdominal loads accordingly. How do I work with women with a DA in the Pilates Studio? When I begin working with women who are post-natal I am looking at the whole person, not just the DA. I focus on the healing by optimising their: -Posture -Breathing -Thoracic mobility -Pelvic and thoracic relationship -Intra-abdominal pressure during abdominal loaded exercises Any of the women who see me can do all the exercises correctly, however if they are sleep deprived, charged on cortisol and are not receiving the nutrition they require then the rehabilitation is not going to be as optimal. I also offer general lifestyle guidance- the immune and stress levels play a key role in the fascial healing role. How do we work together? You visit for an Initial Consultation, where we discuss your pregnancy and birth, I do a DA assessment and a full movement assessment to identify where you have available and restricted movement. This allows me to formulate movement goals for you. When we work together I ensure that your goals and targets are achieved and are meaningful for you, in alignment with what I can see would be the most optimal way to re-build your body to full physical vitality. I am taking new clients, with limited spaces available so please send me a message to begin your healing. Krystle x

15.01.2022 Do you care for your feet?

15.01.2022 Fun Intermediate Level Mat class tonight!

14.01.2022 When we are pregnant and preparing everything necessary for our birth and the baby needs, there is so much to consider isn't there! -Who will be my care provider? -Where will I birth the baby? -What is the best baby carrier, stroller, cot ect ect....... -Do I need this fancy monitor and baby wipes heater? .... and the list goes on. It is not until after baby is born that you may start to consider how to gently restore your post-birth healing and beyond. I am a post-natal pilates specialist and my absolute passion is caring for new mums! If you know someone about to bring a new baby into the world then consider supporting them with a gift voucher (instead of more baby face washers and wraps!) I whole heartedly believe that once the baby is born it actually DOES NOT need much (as the retail industry will have you believe) to be cared for- food, warmth and love is really where it is at! A new mother is the one that needs the most support and this includes allowing herself to have the space and time in her week to gently restore and regenerate her body for tissue healing, ease muscles stiffness, keep the spine in optimal alignment and manage the nervous system as it adapts to a new way of being (hello sleep less nights!) Pilates with me is intentional, focused on technique and multi-layered as you focus on rebuilding those foundational blocks of your body. There are many forms of exercise, and actually even a number of Pilates exercises that should not be practiced in the first 9 months post-natal period. Book in a private lesson with me and receive a free e-book on post natal care. This goes into depth about what exercises to do and not do if you have an abdominal separation, the impact of on-set of postnatal fibromyalgia, self care techniques and more. PM to organise your first private assessment. $50 for 45mins. Love, Krystle

08.01.2022 Where is the focus? Choosing the right Pilates class for your pre and postnatal care could be the difference between an optimal birth body and correct spontaneous postnatal recovery or not. When you are choosing your pregnancy exercise- Where is the focus for you? ... If you are only focusing on a ‘fit pregnancy’ then you may find yourself overdeveloping muscles such as the legs and arms and missing valuable birth preparation exercises such as spinal mobility and diaphragm breathing. What if it could be both? A fit able pregnancy that is adaptive to changes and preparing the body for birth. In the post-natal recovery phase- Where is your focus? If you are focusing so much on the ‘bounce back’ then you may experience common post-natal problems instead of layering your loading to function at your best, avoid pain and feel good as a new mum! I am taking new clients and have current availability for Saturday and Wednesdays. Send me a PM to get started with an assessment. My studio is from my home and I am relaxed about having your babies with you if needed. Krystle x

06.01.2022 Who loves the reformer! Yes! We do too! This humble little guy though... the exo chair is just as awesome and equally as dynamic! What is your favourite exercise on the chair? ... I love the deep lunges and this exercise that looks like a handstand, called Hamstring III. Hamstring III is a great way to build the upper body strength, improve spinal mobility and creates a deep burn into the belly as you use your stomach muscles to lift your hips up. Like the reformer the chair has different spring tensions to assist/ create resistance against you body. Hamstring III on a light spring requires very strong abdominals and upper body placement to be able to lift your hips up. Its so so amazing for re-building belly strength in a post-natal woman. If your keen to start Pilates with the full variation of equipment then pleas give us a call- Krystle 0436212221
