24.01.2022 To Continue on our senior series there are other supportive therapies that can be used with animals. Warmth and massage can help ease muscles around sore joints. Swimming and Hydrotherapy can keep muscles strong when load bearing exercise can cause pain. Laser therapy can help with injury to joints. If you have any questions about these therapies please do not hesitate to ask the staff! Some we provide and some we can refer to.

21.01.2022 Staff and Their Pets Friday Feature! Here is Janes (and Mikes, he is taking the picture!) Cat Cody. He was rescued by Kingsley vet as a kitten and they couldnt resist his cuteness. Lo and behold and would give grumpy cat a run for his money for actual grumpiness though he looks very sweet and cute in this picture! They have also owned dogs through the years but alas they have recently passed away.

20.01.2022 We have recently formed a collaboration with Dr. Ewen Blaikie from Small Animal Orthopaedics. While we offer a range of orthopaedic services sometimes an animal, usually because of size or because the case is more complicated, will benefit from the hands of a specialist surgeon such as Dr. Ewen. He comes into the clinic with his own equipment and skill and is supported by the Vet and nurse staff you are familiar with as seen below. This means you and your pet dont have to travel to a specialist facility and we can manage your pets aftercare. Rogue is healing well from her surgery!

20.01.2022 Cats can spend 50% of their day grooming! That is a lot of time for our cats to be keeping themselves clean. If you notice your cat grooming themselves more than normal there may be an underlying issue, especially if they are losing hair from overgrooming. 19.01.2022 Puppy Classes: Our popular group Puppy Classes are run by fully qualified and experienced trainers Kerry Hennessey and Cecile Ashen-Young, held in our reception (Which is cleaned before class) and designed for puppies aged 8-16 weeks. Puppy Classes are comprised of four one-hour classes held over a four week period. Kerry and Cecile use reward based training methods that are humane and scientifically proven to be effective. She has been a fixture at Kingsley Vet for nearly 14 years! She is a healthy senior cat though she makes for a very poor receptionist as many have noticed over the years.

You must scan in with the SafeWA app or sign a contact registry. (There will be multiple scan points throughout clinic reception.) 2. You must wear a mask at all times inside the clinic (unless have a medical exemption) 3. We must keep to less than 6 people in the reception area. 15.01.2022 Ehrlichiosis: A recent news article has raised a lot of questions amongst our clients and we wanted to provide the current Facts (And reassurance) as we know them: 1. At this point it has only been confirmed in the Kimberly region and Northern Pilbara regions near Port Hedland of WA and the Northern Territory. It is a Notifiable disease and none have been reported south of that region.... 2. The best prevention at this stage is avoiding the region with your pet and ensuring your pet's tick control is up to date. The latter will protect your pet should it move south or they come in contact with animals that have come from the region. 3. 14.01.2022 Light Low impact exercises are good for our senior cats and dogs.It keeps up their muscle tone which in turns helps support their arthritic joints. One of the best for dogs is swimming and there are a couple of dog swimming pools in the area or to the beach once it gets warmer. Their walks may need to be shorter but they are still really important for maintaining good joint health. Keeping your cats moving with balls they can chase or scattering their food around so they have to move around to eat can be good ways to keep our sleepy felines moving. Exercise is also good for their brain health as boredom can exacerbate geriatric mental decline in our pets. If you would like more tips (Or have them) feel free to share below or give us a call!

13.01.2022 We will have a weight loss focus this month! Obesity is one of the biggest health issues we face in our patients. It effects breathing, joints, and overall longevity (Studies show that obese animals can live up to 2 years less than Healthy weight animals!) as well as other areas of health. Today's tip: Did you know 60g of cheese for your dog or cat is equal two eating two donuts!

13.01.2022 Spring is in the air! This is a good time to enjoy the warmer days and sunshine but for our pets (and their humans sometimes!) it can also mean an increase in allergies. Our pets can have the usual allergies to parasites such as fleas as well as share much of the same ones we humans have to mother nature and food! If your pet has developed the spring itch please give us a call and we can help provide some relief. Allergies are quite common in pets and there have been advances in treatment through the years!

07.01.2022 Senior Health Special! Now that things are returning to normal we can offer our Senior Health Promo once again! We will do it for June and July for pets over 8 yrs of age. The Senior health promo includes a full physical exam, Biochemistry (Checks organ function, diabetes etc) , Complete Blood Count (Looking for Anemia and other blood issues), Thyroid test, and Urinalysis. ... 07.01.2022 This may seem like an ongoing theme, but weight is perhaps one of the most important aspect of a pets health we need to consider. Too much or too little can affect many health systems or give us indicators for certain diseases. Especially for our senior pets it can play a havoc on their joints leading to or making their arthritis worse. Unexplained Weight gain in dogs or weight loss in cats can be a sign of Thyroid dysfunction or other organ issues. Remember it is Senior Health month and we are doing Senior health checks with Blood tests for a reduced costs on our 8+ years old patients.

05.01.2022 Fun Fact Friday! Keeping to the senior theme, worlds oldest pets! The top two dogs were both Australian at around 30 years of age! Blue and Maggie were both cattle dogs! ... The oldest cat on record is Creme Puff from Texas at 38yrs of age. Her owner had owned a previous record holder Grandpa Rex who died at 34! (He was a patient at our nurses Tash first workplace in Austin Texas!) The oldest living creature so far confirmed by scientists is clam that was found to be 405 years of age!

04.01.2022 Hello, My name is Natasha and I am one of the nurses at Kingsley Vet and I was recently diagnosed with Breast cancer. So this year more than ever I wanted to bring some awareness to Purple Bra Day which is today. Purple Bra day supports Breast Cancer Care WA which provides a long list of services for free to those with Breast cancer. I can already speak from experience of the invaluable support they have provided me in the last month and ways they will continue to support m...e on this journey: Support groups, Breast Cancer Nurse, vouchers for house cleaning, information , phone support and so much more. Even if you are unable to donate, if you can mention to a friend or family member to check their breasts often and regularly and to do so yourself. Breast cancer effects people across all genders and ages, in fact I am going through chemotherapy with a guy who has the same type of breast cancer as I do and have people on the breast cancer forum diagnosed in their 20s, so EVERYONE needs to examine themselves. As for myself and work: I hope to continue to work at least part-time but I will ask you to forgive me if I keep up physical distancing as I go through chemotherapy over the next 4 months as my immune system will be low. I am otherwise keeping positive and my cancer care team is positive we will get through this with a positive outcome. Also...no apologies for the variety of wigs and hair coverings you may see over the next year, I hope to have a little fun where I can! ;). If you have medical concerns please give us a call but we are trying to see medical cases only and will go back to 'Routine' visits next week. (hopefully) Those that are booked, Please call on arrival and one of our staff members will meet you at the door and bring the pet in to be looked after. If you need food or medication we ask that you call and pay ahead so that we can bring the food to the door with minimal contact. 03.01.2022 IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: Balcatta Vet (Vet24) has reported a surge in Parvo puppies of late. While we have not seen any at our practice it is a timely reminder to make sure your pets vaccinations are up to date and that puppies are cautious in where they are socializing. If you are uncertain of your pets last vaccination please do not hesitate to give us a call and one of our nurses can look it up for you. The minimum vaccine for all dogs does include protection for Parvo. Adult dogs would be getting this every 3 years. Puppies would be getting this 2-3 times as part of their puppy course, this should be followed up with an adult vaccine at approx 15months, then triannually.
