25.01.2022 'Red Coral' is an embroidered textile piece created by Suzanne Arnott as part of Louise Meuwissen's Sustainable Art Workshop: 'Visible Mending Embellished Patches'. "Using a felt backing I pulled together a few red beads that I had in my stash, along with some other findings and a few black beads for constraint. I may have gone a bit bigger than intended, but it is such a mindful process. I used a red machine embroidery thread to sew, also from my stash. This will be a patch to cover a stain on the leg of a pair of black trousers." Sustainable Art 2020: Online Exhibition has now launched! Visit https://bit.ly/2EdvLU4 to see the full exhibition.

24.01.2022 Join us for the opening night of 'Shelter in Place' this Thursday 15 April, 6-8pm. Visual artist, Sharon Monagle, and poet Rose Lucas, collaborate in this new exhibition which reflects on their personal and shared experiences of 2020. These conversations, across words and paint, touch on the terrible fires of Summer 2019-2020; the uncertainty of the autumn isolation; the short reprieve of winter; the lockdown of late winter into spring; and the tentative emergence and trans...itions of late spring into summer. While 2020 in Melbourne was certainly challenging, this artistic collaboration also points to ways in which crisis can lead to enrichment and reconnection. Venue: G3 Artspace, Shirley Burke Theatre, Parkdale Exhibition: Friday 16 April - Saturday 15 May Gallery hours: Wed - Fri, 9am - 5pm & Sat, 12 - 5pm This year, we're ticketing exhibition opening events to ensure the safety of our community during COVID-19. If you do not have an opening event ticket, we are accepting walk-ins on the night, subject to capacity restrictions. 19.01.2022 Public Art coming soon! As part of the redevelopment of the Ben Kavanagh Reserve in Mordialloc, we put out a call for an artist to deliver a large sports themed mural on the (pictured) rebound wall. After a rigorous selection process, we are excited to announce that the artists chosen for this public art project are creative duo Abbey Rich and Beci Orpin! ... Beci Orpin is a Melbourne based creative practitioner who works across illustration, design and craft. Beci has run a freelance studio for over 20 years, teaches creative workshops and exhibits both locally and internationally. Abbey Rich is a Melbourne based painter and public artist. They have extensive experience with public art murals and installations, host and facilitate creative workshops and show art in group and solo exhibitions. 'Longing for Home' is a project that took place in 2019-2020, on the land of the Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. I collaborated with 50 first generation Australian women during a series of embroidery workshops over the months of October and November 2019. 60 embroideries were created which were lat...er mounted to form a dress. Each day this week, I will post some pictures of the process behind my work. Today is a picture of embroideries in their making at Cheltenham Community Centre. They are created with white thread on white background, light reveals their fragility, boldness, creativity, and over all their unique story. @VIRWC @KingstonArtsAU and @Kingstoncouncil have been of great support throughout this project, its making and now online display. I am infinitely thankful for this opportunity." Sofie Dieu See more

09.01.2022 Aunty Bronwyn is a proud Gunditjmara woman and recognised as one of Victoria’s foremost master weavers. Aunty Bronwyn has reinvigorated weaving practices by sharing her knowledge and teaching generations of other weavers. The traditional knowledge of weaving was passed down from my grandmother to my mother, to myself. Mum taught me how to recognise different grasses and how to cut and split them. Elders had no names for weaving grasses but knew which grasses to get because t...hey all had different heads. They would walk into the bush and know which ones to get. They are so recognisable. Weaving has kept us connected to each other, our culture, our community, our Country. Most importantly, the continuation of this tradition has given us a strong and independent voice in the modern world which we’ve used to build bridges, heal broken relationships and make new connections. Thank you to Ngardang Girri Kalat Mimini for sharing! Tomorrow, we introduce you to Indigenous Hip Hop Projects, a unique team of talented artists in all elements of hip hop, media, entertainment and performing arts. 01.01.2022 "So lovely to take-over Kingston Arts' social media this week! For those who don't know me, my name is Sofie Dieu and I work as a visual artist with Communities. 'Longing for Home' is a project that took place in 2019-2020, on the land of the Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation. I collaborated with 50 first generation Australian women during a series of embroidery workshops over the months of October and November 2019. 60 embroideries were created which were later moun...ted to form a dress. Each day this week, I will post some pictures of the process behind my work. Today is a picture of embroideries in their making at Cheltenham Community Centre. They are created with white thread on white background, light reveals their fragility, boldness, creativity, and over all their unique story." @VIRWC @KingstonArtsAU and @Kingstoncouncil have been of great support throughout this project, its making and now online display. I am infinitely thankful for this opportunity." Sofie Dieu
