25.01.2022 Many thanks to the Hepburn Shire Council, who have mown the grass and innoculated the trees against Elm Leaf Beetle, perfectly timed for Remembrance Day! The Avenue is looking beautiful, with some trees fully in leaf and others just starting out.

25.01.2022 We missed seeing you all collected together on Anzac Day last weekend. We hope you all had a chance to honour the day in your own way. Our thanks to all the families involved, who helped with our day, even at a distance, and to all whose thoughts were with us.

23.01.2022 Not new, but a lovely story. In the Australian War Memorial, a pigeon made its nest high up in the Hall of Memory. It had been stealing poppies from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for its nest on a ledge below a stained glass window.

23.01.2022 Orders for ANZAC DAY wreaths now open

23.01.2022 The Avenue is beautiful in clouds and sun. We hope you are all keeping well and safe.

22.01.2022 We are at the Creswick Market today selling plants and bulbs. It’s a beautiful day for the market!

21.01.2022 A thought-provoking video on the impact of World War I. (It addresses the incredible losses experienced.)

21.01.2022 Spring has finally arrived, and the Avenue is looking splendid.

20.01.2022 A flashback to the snow in the Avenue from one month ago today, shared by local photographer Lindsay Cooke.

16.01.2022 We’re at the Creswick Market today selling locally grown plants and knitted/crocheted poppies. We hope to see you soon!

16.01.2022 Our ANZAC Day guest speaker this year will be Ross Dimond from Mollongghip. Ross has two great uncles commemorated in the Avenue: Allen Dimond tree W57, and Roland John Vernon Dimond W56. He has two relatives on his maternal side who also served. Many of you will know Ross’s mother Alma, nee Lay. Ross will speak about his grandfather and grandmother, Ted and Mary Lay and his great uncle Percy Lay. Please join us for the 9.00am Service and a cuppa afterwards. (Please arrive early to check in for Covid-19 tracking!) People then have the opportunity to join the commemorations in Creswick. Many thanks to all who helped out with the Kingston Avenue Working Bee - the trees are looking lovely! And many thanks to the Council, who mowed the grass in the Avenue today!

13.01.2022 Thank you to those who were able to join us for our small Remembrance Day Service, and many thanks who all those who were involved in the service. Our apologies to those who were unable to join us this time, and we hope to see you for ANZAC Day.

11.01.2022 You may be aware that the Avenue of Honour at Kingston is located in the middle of the proposed Western Victoria Transmission Network Project, which plans to build large overhead transmission lines. If the lines go ahead as planned they will have direct and widespread impact in our district. We are hoping the lines will be built below ground to avoid increased fire risk and reduce the effect on livestock and our beautiful landscape and environment. Clarkes Hill and District P...ower Alliance and Moorabool and Central Highlands Power Alliance are two groups that are pushing for the below-ground option. If you're not sure where to start, visit the official Network Project's site at https://www.westvictnp.com.au, and Moorabool's response at https://mooraboolpoweralliance.com.au/ and then attend the online community meeting via Zoom tonight, Tuesday 8th September from 7pm to 8pm. Catherine King Federal MP for Ballarat will be discussing the Network project and hearing our views on what’s important to us. Come along with your questions. Zoom link - https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85132858433 . There will be another meeting tomorrow with representatives of the companies behind these projects, which we will share details on in our next update. See more

10.01.2022 LEST WE FORGET OUR TRUE ABORIGINAL HISTORY In 2019 Descendants of Aboriginal Light Horse riders remembered their ancestors. The Australian Light Horse Associat...ion state director Barry Rodgers said at the time that the association wanted to recognise the role Aboriginal troopers played in World War I. "They were wounded and they won medals," Mr Rodgers said. "They were brilliant horsemen and extremely good soldiers. There were well over 1000 of them that served and they didn't get much recognition." In 2020 it appears the Government and their agencies have forgotten the connection Aboriginal people and our ANZACS had with their horses and how that is a big, important and deeply spiritual part our combined Australian History and Culture. LEST WE FORGET ALL OF OUR SOLDIERS AND THEIR HORSES https://m.gattonstar.com.au//descendants-of-light/3709042/

07.01.2022 It’s a beautiful morning in Creswick, and we are selling plants at the Creswick Market!

05.01.2022 The Avenue is looking beautiful, on this unexpectedly sunny afternoon. We hope you are all safe and well.

04.01.2022 An important update about the Western Victoria Transmission Network Project. It is important that people place pins on the map in the link below before the end of this month! The pins are colour-coded, and it would be great to see a mix of pins placed. (You will need to register to place pins, but the process is relatively straightforward, and you are very welcome to ask questions here.) There is an online information session Wednesday 23 September at 6pm - 7pm "Understanding... the Environmental Effect Statement (EES) process and how the community can participate." This is not a Zoom meeting and will provide a lot of useful information! You must register at https://moorabool.engagementhub.com.au/western-victoria-tra and may submit questions in advance. If you were unable to attend the previous meeting, you can download a video of it here: https://www.facebook.com/BevMcArthurMP/posts/2763742497229681 The Kingston and District Power Alliance email address is : [email protected] please feel free to contact this email to receive updates.

02.01.2022 We are proud to announce that we have produced a Tree Map Web App for the Kingston Avenue of Honour. The Web App allows you to see information about the serviceman or woman represented by each tree, along with a photo of the tree. You can view information by clicking on trees, or searching names in the search bar at the upper left of the screen. Please click the link below for more information on how it all works, or head straight to http://kingstonavenueofhonour.org.au/tree-map-app/ to find your tree. (We apologise if there are any errors we have already been made aware of - we have fixed errors for the second edition of the book, and will fix errors in the web app when possible.)
