06.01.2022 Today is the first day, Some of our members are putting ONE FOOT FORWARD and walking 200km's during October for Mental Health Month and Black Dog Institute This is to support and show those with mental illness that they are not alone. Mental illness is very common. 1 in 5 people experience symptoms of mental illness each year. That’s more than 5 million people in Australia. The most common of these illnesses are anxiety and depression. Unfortunately, less than half... of all people in Australia experiencing the symptoms of mental illness will seek professional help often with tragic consequences. In fact, suicide is the leading cause of death in people in Australia aged 15-44 years. As a community, we need to come together to support those living with mental illness. We know times are really tough, and our current situation is affecting everyone in some way or another. We only ask ... if you could spare a few dollars to support us and this cause, it would make a world of difference to someone's life. The origins of International Lesbian day are connected to the Lesbian March in New Zealand in 1980, where thousands of Lesbians and allies marched to bring awareness to lesbian and feminist issues within the community. However, its first official recognition in Australia was in 1990 with an event at the Collingwood T...own Hall in Melbourne on October 13. International Lesbian Day highlights the importance of the lesbian community and the diversity that exists within it.
