25.01.2022 Charan How has failure or apparent failure set you up for later success? Failure or apparent failure has engaged a process of reflection. It has forced me to consider whether I am failing at something because a) I do not enjoy it or b) as part of the inevitable learning process in something that I do enjoy. In the case of the former, I have ceased the activity (where possible). In the case of the latter, I have forced myself to be more patient with my progress and focuse...d my attention on how to improve. This patience and focus has set me up for later success. What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments youve ever made? Studying in the United States and France were opportunities for significant personal growth and clarity. They were one of my most worthwhile investments of time and money. In the last five years, what you become better at saying no to? I have become better at saying no to activities which do not align with my values. When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, or have you lost your focus temporarily, what do you do to get back on track? I take time to relax, recentre my thoughts and focus on what is important. This often involves internal reflection on what tasks most closely align with my objectives and planning on how to best complete those tasks. #kingstonyouthservices #hereforyoungpeople #cityofkingston #youthservices #youth #youthworkers #youngpeople #youthprograms #youthactivities #youthsessions #youthevents #youthsupport #youthadvocacy #youthengagement #youthparticipation #communitysupport #supportservices

22.01.2022 Bella How has failure, or apparent failure set you up for success? If I dont do as well at something as I had hoped, I have found that I can use that experience as motivation to work hard in the future. This approach leads to further rewards down the line which I wouldnt have had without the original failure!... What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments youve ever made? I trained in dance for sixteen years. Dance teaches you so much about discipline, teamwork, responsibility, and setting and achieving goals. And, of course, you get to have a wonderful creative outlet. It is absolutely one of the best investments Ive made! In the last five years, what have you become better at saying no to? Saying no to talking myself out of things! If you want to do something, just go for it. It may take some time to achieve it but you have just as much fun (if not more) along the way as you do once youre at your goal. When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do to get back on track? This is a bit cheesy, but Im a big fan of a good mantra. Its something simple that you can just repeat to yourself, and you can use it as your new philosophy moving forward rather than looking back and worrying about the past. One I like is: Ive got this!. Another good idea is to set out a schedule for yourself. Sometimes it feels like there is way too much going on, but once you write it out you have clarity as to where things can be moved around. Treat yourself like a friend. What would you tell them to prioritise to maintain their wellbeing and achieve their goals? #kingstonyouthservices #hereforyoungpeople #cityofkingston #youthservices #youth #youthworkers #youngpeople #youthprograms #youthactivities #youthsessions #youthevents #youthsupport #youthadvocacy #youthengagement #youthparticipation #communitysupport #supportservices

18.01.2022 Sabina How has failure, or apparent failure set you up for later success? Failure has entered my life only long enough to teach me valuable lessons and really point me in the right direction of what I want/need, I think its important to have set backs as it opens more doors you didnt know were an option. ... What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments youve ever made? One the best things Ive invested in that has honestly made such a difference in my life is self care, to give time to yourself and intentionally doing things that make you feel good can give such healthy balance to your life. In the last five years, what have you become better at saying no to? In the last 5 years Ive learnt how to say no to going to events so I can study for uni, it was hard because hanging out with friends is obviously better than studying haha but Ive learnt that education is priority at the moment. When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do to get back on track? When Im feeling overwhelmed I sit back and put everything into perspective of priority that needs to be done and other times just relax, put on an easy easy cartoon to watch or listen to some calming music. #kingstonyouthservices #hereforyoungpeople #cityofkingston #youthservices #youth #youthworkers #youngpeople #youthprograms #youthactivities #youthsessions #youthevents #youthsupport #youthadvocacy #youthengagement #youthparticipation #communitysupport #supportservices

14.01.2022 Young people today live in a busy, complex and rapidly-changing world, faced with increased pressures and expected to adapt to numerous changes to their way of life very quickly and away from their normal support networks. The impacts of this can include a rise in stress levels, anxious thoughts and periods of feeling low to name just a few. 11.01.2022 Well its as simple as Ben has just said to enter our Fuse Productions Short Film Festival. Grab a few friends, come up with some ideas and get filming. Great prizes up for grabs!! A little fun fact about Ben: Ben is the owner and founder of Otherside Productions. In 2009 he entered one of our film making competitions and was awarded the Mayors Choice for his short film. In 2013 we reached out to Ben and collaborated with him (and yes he was paid for his work) to help us mak...e an ad for Kingston Youth Services which we played at Village Cinemas. He has been kicking some amazing goals and in the last few years his work has elevated to whole a new level. Some of his more recent work includes: TARGA Great Barrier Reef racing car rally which was televised on Channel Nine. He also worked on telling the incredible story of participants in the Spartan obstacle race in Canberra and is currently working on Garage 41, a weekly series featuring great character and amazing cars streaming on 7mate. To see some of Bens work head to @otherside_media Thanks Ben for helping us spread the word about our 2020 competition See more

10.01.2022 Results from the Kingston Covid-19 survey have shown that the main concern people had about being isolated was the loss of connection with their social support network. 09.01.2022 Bernie How has failure, or apparent failure set you up for later success? Whilst facing employment issues and looming unemployment after University I have set up my own sole trader venture and coupled that with experience in my own small business! It has been very rewarding and fruitful for my future career. As such I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience that I wouldnt have if I didnt take head of failure!... What is one of the best or most worthwhile investments youve ever made? One for the most worthwhile investments was my University degree as well as studying abroad. Gaining my undergraduate design degree has set up my life pattern and encouraged me to seek solution based problem solving in every aspect of my life! I am now more worldly and I have understood now where I am heading in my life choices and as part of my community! In the last five years, what have you become better at saying no to? I have become better at saying no to more people who want my attention solely wanting my humour, rather than a mutual friendship who cares for each other. I have felt it more important to focus on two sided friendships and what I can bring to them. When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do to get back on track? If I become unfocused or trying to be more motivated I usually try to tick off the small things on my daily list. Simple items like cleaning and household jobs. This allows me to feel somewhat productive and sets me up to achieve more in my day. Staying creative is also my big motivator! Trying to draw or create something everyday keeps me inspired and helps me stay on track! #kingstonyouthservices #hereforyoungpeople #cityofkingston #youthservices #youth #youthworkers #youngpeople #youthprograms #youthactivities #youthsessions #youthevents #youthsupport #youthadvocacy #youthengagement #youthparticipation #communitysupport #supportservices
