25.01.2022 This weekend is Mother’s Day. Usually your pre-schooler would have been busy at Pre-school In the leadup, preparing the special ladies in their lives a surprise. Sadly this year looks very different but we like to look on the up side and choose to see this year as an opportunity to encourage mums to get involved and so we give you all two things. 1. We have prepared and posted out a surprise (those chn attending this week will have brung it home with them inst...ead) that is intended to both act as our Mother’s Day gifts and a bonding momentum as both you and your preschooler will have one each. & 2. The gift of time. We want to support mums to spend a piece of quality time with their pre-schooler at home. We truly hope you all enjoy your matching surprises but also the precious moments that you share creating them. Have a lovely weekend ladies See more

25.01.2022 Tomorrow is National Simultaneous Story Time. Children young and old alike will be joining in and all listening to the same story together, at the same time right across the country. There will be thousands of schools and preschools united in this opportunity to promote unity and literacy together. Even if you are at home there is still time to register on line. Join with us at preschool and ‘attend’ from home. There’s 20 hours left and this is a fabulous way to celebrate books and story telling of all kinds. This years story is great and I’m sure everyone will enjoy the experience #lovebooks #lovechickens #thereis alittledivainallofus

25.01.2022 Yesterday was Early Childhood Educators Day. We are fortunate to have a wonderful group of professionals spending each day with your children at King St Pre-School. We love our jobs and are passionate about what a early childhood education looks like but in this fast passed world often covered in paint and mud we often forget to pause and thank each other for the time and team and support and care that they bring with them every day. The next time you see your child’s educators please join us in recognising this and say ‘thank you’.

24.01.2022 Hi guys Just a quick reminder that if you have access to a mulberry tree and are able to drop in some leaves our resident silk worms would be very appreciative as thy have emptied their pantry over the weekend

23.01.2022 We thought we’d share this is a great idea. Small jars a best (thanks Olivia and Annika ). Fill jars with a combination of coloured waters, glitter, baby oil (is clear), vegetable oil (is yellow) and evening some random bits and pieces (pom poms, tiny shapes or plastic animals, Oshi’s etc) these tiny jars of potion are a wonderful way to relax as you twist and turn them, watching the contenders mix and slowly separate. Make some at home and use them to relax

23.01.2022 Happy Diwali everybody Today we all had the chance to make and taste Barfi. This is an easy one that you can do in the microwave and is always a crowd favorite. 23.01.2022 Wednesday got us moving with a visit from the very talented Jonna. This amazing musician and storyteller grew up in Ghana West Africa and has come all this way to share his happy insights into life and the culture of his home land.

22.01.2022 Today was just the kind of day you should make tacos with friends, and so that’s just what we did. Some of us were interested in the cooking and stayed the entire time and chopped and stirred, while others were just as happy to play in the playground, busy with friends and occasionally follow the delicious scent to the veranda where they watched for few minutes before returning to their games all the while looking forward to the call that the tacos were ready. The spicy aroma... filled the playground and made everyone feel hungry. And just because everyone is different we made sure we had hard taco shells and soft tacos and most of us had 2 . We have been loving all the cooking this year and can’t wait to do even more. These experiences offer us opportunities to learn about foods and health, develop life skills, and begin to use tools responsibility. They initiate conversations that allow us to better understand others and share experiences all the while trying something new. You’d be surprised just how many children don’t like beans or capsicum or tomato and yet in this moment, seeing peers and teachers enjoying the delights of Pre-school tacos, forget these objections and allow themselves to enjoy something new or reevaluate something for which they have already established disapproval and replace this with YUMMMMMM!! Children begin to take responsibility for their own health #vegetablesrock #foodgroups Children develop dispositions fir learning #explorationcuriositytrustplayfulnesspride Bring in your favourite family recipe or the story of what foods your family loves to cook and share so that we can all talk about it and learn even more about each other. You never know, we may just cook it at Pre-School so we can share and try it too.

21.01.2022 Happy Fri-Yay everybody. This week has been so busy at Pre-School with Pre-School Photos every morning, gardening every day, Ashleigh has joined us from Newcastle Uni to complete her internship and general everyday bits and pieces. The only way to finish a week that has been this jam packed is with a little bit of musical fun. Thankfully Barry Parmenter, is not only our talented clown like photographer who can get a decent smile out of ANYONE, he is also equally talented and just as silly with a guitar. Thanks Barry for a wonderful week, for being your fun and crazy self, for your patience and for tricking all our preschool friends with a loaded dose of standup ...sit down

20.01.2022 At Pre-school we are really enjoying our ‘dirt patch’ and especially loving the mud that naturally goes with our ‘mud kitchen’. For this reason we have decided that it would be a great idea to keep some gumboots at Pre-School for general use. As we are nearing the end of winter we are wondering if any of our families happen to have gumboots that are due to be retired as their own preschooler has grown out of them. If you find that you have spare, no longer fitting gummies at your place we’d love to have them relocated to Pre-School were we promise to totally wear them out. #we2recycle #communitygumboots #passitonandmudwillfillyour

16.01.2022 Paratha was a hit at Pre-School. This warm and tasty flat bread was made into fairy paratha by adding a little honey and sprinkles. We love the way it puffs up when it’s cooking . Thanks Moreen for sharing this deliciousness with us. Karen may even try to make it at home. How to: 500g plain flour 1Tsp veg oil... Warm water added and mixed slowly until you get a smooth dough (almost play dough like, not sticky) Roll into small balls then roll out using a rolling pin and then cook on a dry hot plate or pan. This is traditionally eaten with curry’s by tearing it up and sipping it in the gravy or to pinch and scoop meat or rice. Try it at home, there’s no going back #lovediversity. #sharingwhatwedoathome #goodfoodisgoodfood #kidsadventuretheirtastebuds

15.01.2022 Welcome to term 3 everybody. While we all continue to observe precautions around COVID-19, we want to share some new and exciting news with everyone. Over the recent school holidays our sandpit and mud patch areas both received face lifts designed to inspire wonderfully messy play. Firstly the mud pit had a beautiful new mud kitchen ready and equiped with pots, pans and all manner of cooking utensils. The sandpit too, features some impressive changes including a lovely new... deck that runs the length of the sandpit and houses some storage box’s that we can keep all of our sandpit equipment in as well as providing the perfect spot to pop our kitchen with easier and safer access. These spaces have proven to be a hit so far this week and we are all excited about the opportunities for fun that they will provide children with long term. #NQFlearningbenvironments #QIPsuccess #EYLFdispositiknsforlearninglikecuriosity #themessierthebetter #mud+sand=& See more

13.01.2022 This coming week is Pre-School photo week. Families are all asked to pls make sure that all photo orders are returned with the correct money the next time you drop off rather than on the day that you want your child’s photo taken pls. This will allow our photographer Barry to be organised. Barry always manages to get a great picture even with the trickiest of models. for great weather for our group pictures each day.

13.01.2022 Over the past week the children of King Street have celebrated Holi Festival. Holi is one of the major festivals of India. Holi celebrates the arrival of spring, the end of winter, the blossoming of love and for many, it is a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships. Moreen helped the children and educators to celebrate Holi Day with dancing and powdered colour that we threw onto each others shirts.

12.01.2022 Calling all coffee drinkers. We are asking families and friends to collect Maccona Coffee jars for pre-school. We are able to use all sizes but the bigger the better. We need quite a few so please spread the word. Thanks

11.01.2022 This week we will be supporting Red Nose Day. Pls feel free to wear red and pop a gold coin in the jar at our sign in area for our pre-school to pass on in support this wonderful cause. https://rednoseday.org.au/

11.01.2022 Our children have spent time today engaged in cooking with Moreen. Using a cabbage from our vegetable garden and some other ingredients the group created Pakora, some delicious vegetable treats. We were all able to enjoy them for some yummy morning tea.

10.01.2022 Here’s something fun and yummy to cook on a wet afternoon. Quick and easy with just 4 ingredients. HOKEY POKEY BISCUITS Ingredients:... 120g unsalted butter/marg 1/3 cup golden syrup 2/3 cup brown sugar 3 cups S.R. flour Method: 1. Preheat oven to 180c (fan forced) 2. Melt butter, golden syrup & brown sugar together over low heat in a saucepan (or microwave) until sugar is dissolved. 3. Sift flower on top of the mix and stir in until you have a soft dough. 4. Roll into small balls & place on a baking sheet lined with baking paper, press lightly with a fork. These biscuits tend to retain their shape once cooked so if you prefer flatter crispier biscuits then flatten them more before cooking. We made some flat ones so that we could ice & decorate them with sprinkles. 5. When cooked allow them to cool on a rack or on the baking tray These will keep for up to 5 days in an air tight container

05.01.2022 With the rain predicted to continue we are hoping that all of our friends come well prepared for some wet weather play this week. Just as when it’s cold we all rug up so that we are able to comfortably get outside and play, when it’s wet raincoats, gum boots and full sets of spare clothes ensure that our brains and bodies still get that all important time outside. Our mud kitchen is really going to get a work our during the wet streak #afterallit’sonlydirtandwater #curiosityandexploration=learning #mud

05.01.2022 We hope that all of our families and friends are staying safe in this recent weather. At this stage Pre-school will be operating as per normal tomorrow, however with heavy rain forecasted again we are asking families to be very mindful when arriving and picking their children up from preschool, please allow yourself extra time. If you do not need to be out driving on the roads or live in areas currently affected by rising flood waters or at risk of being cut off we do ask that you do not risk attending preschool tomorrow. We would like to thank you all for your understanding.

04.01.2022 Free to a good home Pre-schools kitchen fridge has stopped working although the freezer is fine. It’s old enough that we’ve decided to replace it but probably just needs gassing or a thermostat (unsure). However we are happy if someone wants to take it and tinker with it to give it away rather than see it become landfill. Would make a great extra fridge for drinks or bate if you an get it going. It’s in good nick, it’s clean, has been looked after and seals ets are all in good condition. First in best dressed. Please call Pre-School if your keen to adopt it.

04.01.2022 The rainbow serpent will great you as you arrive at preschool this week. NAIDOC
