15.01.2022 The Achilles tendon is the strongest tendon in the body! Achilles’ tendon pain is an over use injury which causes pain, sensitivity and stiffness (especially in the morning). It develops when there is a sudden increase in load (too much too soon). One common belief is that stretching will fix it.... So, does it? . If the area of irritability is at the bony attachment (heel bone), then stretching will actually make it worse! It will cause compression to the tendon at the attachment point and we know a grumpy tendon hates compression... If the area of tendon irritability is midway along the tendon, then stretching is unlikely going to make it worse. Stretching can make it feel better momentarily, but won’t actually make any permanent tendon changes to fix the problem. A well-structured, high load strengthening program and load management strategies are your answer. : Stretching assist with your recovery the area of tendon irritability is mid-portion make sure you also follow a strengthening program and modify your training loads!
