25.01.2022 KinCumber Creek this morning...more concrete polluted water straight from Hymix Concrete Batching plant at KinCumber. Please register your concern with the EPA [email protected]... To stop this happening.
24.01.2022 I just went creek side to check the impact of the concrete waste water pollution from yesterday evening and found this poor little guy stuck in the mangroves near the stormwater outlet (which you can see in the background of the first image). I dont want to be sensationalist as it could just be a very unfortunate coincidence but it is the first dead bandicoot Ive ever found around here. In fact its the first bandicoot Ive seen here in three years. When I first moved in 6... years ago these little guys were prolific around the Kincumber creek especially at the back of Frost Oval. Then suddenly three winters ago they simply disappeared. Not sure if this was the fate of the rest of them but it is certainly sad to see a native animal perish unnecessarily under any circumstances let alone if theyre being poisoned by industry. I hope this is not the case but it certainly compels is to remain vigilant on the matter at hand. One thing I can certainly confirm is that the fish dogs in Kincumber Creek have most certainly decreased significantly. If the quality of Kincumber Creek is such its poisoning native wildlife Then you can only imagine what its doing to the marine life that live (or die) in there. See more
24.01.2022 If you are community minded, environmentally aware or just hate to see big business get away with shit that is wrong and that the every day person will be hung for them please check out my Facebook page below. I wont lie....it is a bit of a crusade because for 5 years I have lobbied the local (idiots) Central Coast Council and the EPA about HyMix Concrete Kincumbers ongoing abuse and neglect of regulation and breach of compliance as a concrete batching facility. Unlike Bor...al Conctete who are professional responsible and super clean producers of ready mix concrete and only 200m up the road, the cowboys at HyMix flood KINCUMBER creek with concrete waste water and roadside runoff, have a filthy unkept facility are within 20m of sensitive habitat and 40m of homes (regulation standard is minimum of 200m...see Boral ) and pump incontained noise and dust into the air for every kincumbervresident to breath in including the deadly silica particles document recently in headline news bulletins and known to cause acute and potentially fatal respiratory problems for anyone who has has extended exposure....that counts for anyone who lives in Kincumber. This is a real issue and a health hazard for all residents because HyMix have no containment measures as is once again an industry regulation. If you frequent anywhere in the Kincumber industrial estate or go to frost oval or drop a boat in the Kinny boat ramp you are being exposed to deadly silica dust...read up on it it is bad shit like asbestos is bad shit! Government authorities dont want to know about it but it is time something got done. Im stuffed if Im going to continue to be poisoned by dust and bombarded by noise that these clown are obligated to contain...so please if you care about environment community your own health or doing what is right please support this page and pass around the news. Time to make these money hungry vandals accountable for their actions....cheers Chop. See more
24.01.2022 Video of the August 7th creek Contamination event.
24.01.2022 Here shows just how high the finer dust particles, the ones that cant be contained by the sweeper and the same ones that are certain that once inhaled will make it all the way to your lungs....if it is going this high then you can bet its going pretty wide too. Feel free to let them, central Coast Council and the EPA know about if you agree that this type iof impact on our community is not on.
22.01.2022 This footage is a clear indication of the negligence and breach of compliance by Hymix Concrete Kincumber Batching plant. This is just a small amount of dust collected on a portion of only one driveway crossover outside of the compound. HyMix not only fail to have adequate containment measures to trap this hazardous waste product within their compound, they also fail to ever put into practice effective cleaning applications to recover the loose dust particles that gather on C...ochrane Street. What this means is that after any day of production within the facility unacceptable and dangerous levels of concrete waste dust filled with hazardous silica dust particles accumulate loose along Cochran Street, just 20 m from the sensitive Kincumber Creek tributary and only 40 m away from the nearest homes. Even worse it is Right in the face of anyone who uses the services of any of the surrounding businesses in the Kincumber industrial estate. This concrete waste dust accumulates and is sent into the air of the KinCumber community with every passing car and truck and any kind of windy conditions. Once it is airborne anyone exposed to it hes having hazardous silica dust particles entering their respiratory system. There is no need To explain any further how serious this is to anyone who is exposed to it. People exercise in it, children are playing amongst it pedestrians and shoppers are breathing it and the community are being harmfully affected by it. Furthermore are the impacts on our water ways....an earlier post on this page show what occurs when it rains....this concrete waste turns into a slurry and is duly washed into the stormwater system and flushed into the Brisbane waterways....everytime it rains. The HyMix facility and Cochrane street is cleansed of this hazard passed on to the marine environment nearby only to have it accumulate once more the next day of concrete Batching production at HyMix. It is disgraceful how poorly monitored and maintained this site is. And before anyone suggests this is sensationalist I can confirm that the very same test was conducted on the Boral site only 200m away with completely different results. The Boral plant, which has effective containment measures and procedures in place has no hazardous concrete dust accumulating on their driveway crossovers. The difference is incomparable and simply highlights the gross negligence and failure by Hymix Concrete to operate responsibly and within regulation governing this industry.....this waste product is completely uncontained and is spread across the community by heavy haulage vehicles and passing cars and is clearly evident on any dry day after production. It is a compliance breach and it continues to go ignored by the authorities that regulate it....and you can be assured it is affecting your health and the wellbeing of an entire community more than we are being made aware. 21.01.2022 In early July the EPA conducted tests that proved conclusively that the stormwater outlet pictured here is indeed directly connected to the Hymix Concrete batching facility on Cochrone street. This means that it is in actual fact concrete waste water captured within the facility that has been flowing into our waterways via this conduit since 1986. Despite the constant denial and negligence of Hymix they are responsible for this atrocious pollution of the creek and the subsequ...ent damage and impact it has and continues to have on this sensitive tributary. A few days after this finding was revealed Hymix contracted an extremely offensive pump truck to suck the stormwater outlet clear of the decades of built up concrete sludge and slurry that had built up in the pipeline. It took an entire day of ground shaking noise to complete the job. The result is devastating. These pictures were taken two days after the pumping truck had done its work on the 11th July. The cleared stormwater line, which now free of debris and slurry is an open line of free flowing concrete contaminated waste water from the Hymix plant straight into the creek whenever the compounds catchment system reaches capacity. Weve been told it cannot cope with more than 20mm is rainfall but we have observed that to be much less with our precious creek flowing grey now with every millimetre of rain. It has happened several times since then and We have even observed discolouration without rainfall now indicating the pipeline, free of obstruction releases any excess water into the creek. The knee jerk reaction to Hymix Concrete failing has made the problem worse. I will make additional posts after this to show what has and is happening to this creek on several occasions in the past month due to the negligent compliance and ignorance of Hymix Concrete and the regulating authorities who are all to aware of what is going on here. Nothing lives in This creek anymore...the mangroves surrounding the outlet are dead and the creek is shallowing with every deluge. The EPA continue to investigate but this stormwater outlet remains open for business and that business is pumping thousands of litres of concrete sludge into our waterways. It is difficult to comprehend how this is allowed to continue or why Hymix Concrete simply do not care enough to remedy the situation or mimimise the damage they are doing. There is no excuse not reason why this should be allowed to go on. No law allows this type of breach of compliance or damaging impact on the environment to go unchecked. If anyone can explain why this plant is the exception please let us know why because this is happening and the results are getting worse. I fear there will be no creek here at all soon.
21.01.2022 Water Pollution Event Friday 14th August. At 7pm after minimal rainfall high levels of toxic concrete contaminated waste water is still flowing into our creek, over the destroyed mangroves leaving the water grey and the banks coated in slurry. The Hymix Plant does not have the capacity to contain and managed water on the premises adequately....so it allows the excess to escape into our waterways....they dont care and council and EPA are very good at receiving the reports, collecting the data but not so good on enforcing the compliance or protecting the environment and community. Catastrophic!
21.01.2022 This is the direct result of part of the EPA investigation 2 weeks ago. It was discovered that the stormwater outlet is indeed directly connected to the Hymix Compound and there fore excess catchment of rainfal above 20mm is most definitely flowing into Kincumber Creek...killing the habitat. As part of the remediation Hymix have now employed this hugely invasive pump truck to suck clear what has likely been over 30 years of concrete contaminated waste water flow from the stormwater outlet. Impact is insane. With every nearby home house shaking to its foundations. Unfortunately sucking the mess clean will not prevent the contaminated water from reaching the creek next rainfall and I will be certain to document the next pollution event when it occurs. This is close to unbelievable.
20.01.2022 More abhorrent disregard for our waterways today. As is the case every rainfall significant contamination of Kincumber Creek is occurring via the Hymix concrete batching plant on Cochrane Street. This stormwater drain just 30 m from the compound and linked directly to the facility is absolutely gushing concrete slurry and waste water directly into the creek. It has smothered the mangroves and has a thick channel of grey water running straight down the creek into the Broadwate...r. It happens silently in the bushes where no one can see it except me because it discuss me it is illegal and it is destroying the Kincumber Creek and Central Coast waterways. The fish have disappeared from the Kincumber Creek will be at a few choking eels. In fact Kincumber Creek its self is disappearing filling up with the settlement that is pumped out almost daily from the Hymix plant who know about it as do the EPA and Central Coast Council yet no one seems to want to do anything about it. In fairness the EPA are in the midst of a significant investigation which Hymix are required to handover a detailed plan and revised environmental management plan. That was due a few weeks ago however theyve been granted a unacceptable extension due to the restrictions in place surrounding the COVID-19 issue. Not sure how COVID-19 impact their ability to contain their waste water or enables them to continue with this gross negligence and invasion of our environment. What I do know is that all the baby snapper garfish bream etc use this Creek as a nursery will be dead and Hymix will keep on getting away with it. Disgraceful. See more
19.01.2022 Unmitigated Disaster! Less than a week after copping the fine for polluting the creek the heavy rains we received last night have seen tonnes of white sand mix washed into into the stormwater system and released directly into the KinCumber Creek from the deluge. So significant was the mass of sand and aggregate that huge deposits have been left blanketing the Cochrone street side mangroves and creek bed. Right at the entrance point to the creek there is a sandbar up to 30 cm ...high completely suffocating the mangrove bank. It stretched up to 50 metres down stream and can be seen filling the creek itself. The secret outlet has been in effect closed off but it was stated some times ago that the HyMix KinCumber plant has a capacity to contain and store 20mm of excess rainfall. Anything above that enters the stormwater system and gets released into the creek. Including anything that is washed up or contaminates that water. HyMix also have open storage bays to contain their sand and aggregates. No covers, not in pits just sitting on ground and walled on three sides. There is nothing to contain enormous levels of sand, sediment and particles from being swept up and washed away in heavy deluge like what we received last night. Washed into storm drains and soon enough and it ends up right here, suffocating the banks, filling up the creek making it too shallow for fish and marine life to make use of....It’s simply destroys their habitat makes a mess of everything and makes a pretty clear point as to why are you concrete batching plant shouldn’t be operating within 30 m of any kind of waterway alone a tributary of Brisbane Water. Especially not one that operates as negligently, that cares as little as and does as minimal as Hymix Concrete does. No doubt HyMix will return comment with a sidestep along the lines of suggesting they aren’t the only business connected to the stormwater system and its true they aren’t.....but they are the only one within 30m of this extreme pollution event with hundreds of tonnes of loose, uncovered uncontained concrete mix sand and aggregate of the exact same colour that runs into a pit on site that has a water management system that allows excess catchment to be released into the stormwater system....and then into the KinCumber creek system. Plus we’ve seen them do it before. Surely this has got to be it now. How many times can they keep devastating our waterways with this negligence. Clearly unable to or just don’t care enough to contain their own material as is their number 1 responsibility. Time to pack it up.
19.01.2022 The recent communication silence on this page has come to a resounding end today, with what we have just documented at the HyMix Kincumber plant. In truth I was giving the company some leeway after a scheduled meeting with two representatives of HyMix middle management visited me to discuss the ongoing issues the facility is creating. Needless to say this meeting came directly off the back of me launching this page so no doubt some nerves have been struck with me attempting to... broadcast to the community and just what is going on with this concrete batching plant That small amount of goodwill that Ive shown them has been shattered today and has been getting shaky for the last few days. I posted footage not long ago of me collecting dust from the cross over and I have countless images and video documenting just how unkempt the facility is day to day. With tensions are running high over the continual offensive noise emissions that are produced by Hymix plant every day for 10 hours a day with no containment barriers whatsoever we were in raged when we heard a new sound of an altogether more intrusive machine being operated more than an hour. The machine was deafening but when we went across the creek to investigate we were mortified with what we saw. Hymix have now enlisted the services of a street sweeping company to clean their filthy compound. Now I maybe incorrect in saying this but I have never noticed this vehicle inside the Hymix Kincumber facility before. Id like to think I know because I wanted to everything that makes an offensive noise above the permitted levels which is pretty much everything. So it is my belief that Hymix have responded to me calling them out over the unacceptable amount of dust they leave on the road and in the compound but it is shocking to see what is happening to that dust right this minute. The extremely fine easily inhaled particles of concrete dust arent being collected at all they are being sent into the Kincumber Airways for anyone nearby to breathe If this is what it takes to clean a concrete batching facility then it can stands to reason why the EPA in every state of this country regulate that no batching plant will be developed within 200 m of a residential area. nor will they be built without appropriate dust and sound containment measures. Hymix fails severely in both of these regulations. And the people of Kincumber have just got to take it all in Into your eardrums and into your respiratory system! The indoor sports centre is getting absolutely flogged with concrete dust as are any homes or businesses or people within is shot of this calamity. This is truly outrageous and very frightening.... a.nd my guess it will now become a regular occurrence that we will be able to do nothing about except suffer from. I can only post one video at a time so stay tuned because theres a few in this sequence.
19.01.2022 This is a common sound at our home. We are pounded with this most days. It is one of a wide variety of intrusive irritating and undesirable industrial sounds we live with it is never comfortable but it is always there. Now we are aware and except that we live in close proximity to an industrial estate. We acknowledge business is like the concrete batching plant have been there possibly long before us if not the current company certainly the facility. We support every business... in the industrial estate to carry on activities as they must to generate business and stimulate our local economy providing they do it within the regulation guidelines. But we also defend our rights as citizens who reside within a residential development zone to our right to a peaceful way of life free of intrusion. But most of all we highlight our local councils obligation to create a positive and harmonious balance between industry and community when they exist in close proximity just as we do. And just as they have failed to create here at Kincumber. This little conflict isnt the concrete factorys fault for being noisy nor is it my fault for being impacted by it... it is the Central Coast Councils fault for not building a sound wall between us to solve the problem. They are cheap easy to install they have plenty of room to erected and it will solve all sorts of problems for me and everyone else around. So Im not really sure why council wont return my emails because all I wanna do is tell them what the solution is.... if you know a way I can get them to come and take a look for themselves or maybe return an email or even be completely radical and actually fix the friggin problem by building a sound wall please feel free to pass on your knowledge. 19.01.2022 With a small window of dry weather the Hymix Concrete Kincumber Plant where able to engage in a small amount of production once again. Unfortunately it also meant that with this mornings rain More contaminated water poured within the compound catchment area and is flushed straight out into the KinCumber Creek....Below images show exactly what is happening to our creek right this minute. And it is what happens every single time it rains. What is worse is that the minimal am...ount of concrete waste water that is leaking into the creek right now is only due to the fact that the extreme heavy rains we had recently washed the entire compound completely clear of all concrete sediment straight into our waterways.... were talking thousands of litres of contaminated water. It is little wonder Kincumber Creek recently received a D grading in water quality. Hymix Concrete are are very aware of the fact that they are polluting our waterways and yet they continue to use an unacceptable loophole to continue to do it. They simply do not give a hoot about what they are doing to our local environment. Not good enough! See more
17.01.2022 Theyre at it again....HyMix Concrete batching Plant in Kincumber are again pumping contaminated Concrete waste water straight across the mangroves and into the central Coast waterways via their own private stormwater outlet connect to the creek...criminals, vandals and negligent eco terrorists than should be ashamed and then shut down....central coast council should be equally ashamed...they know its happening and simply do not care.
16.01.2022 80+ dB of nonstop offensive noise being emitted from the Hymix Concrete batching plant. It has been going on from just after 8am this morning and will continue til 4pm. 8 hours of exposure to this deafening noise and ground shaking vibration. According to a concerning response from the regional manager this is what we get for complaining to the EPA and for living near an industrial estate. No HyMix this is what we get when a corporation continues to pollute the sensitive ...habitat of Kincumber creek with concrete waste water, gets caught out by a concerned member of the public, and is forced by the EPA to rectify the years of damage and vandalism youve been creating. Im happy to cop one day of this providing you clean your act up but Ill make it very clear to Hymix Ill be watching and monitoring every little thing that you vandals to every single day because youve been getting away with it for years. This is not compliant and you want to get away with it because of poor government policy in monitoring this type of industry and a stretched out environmental protection agency who cant watch your every move..... but I can and I will. Absolute shonky criminals who do not give a brass one. See more
15.01.2022 More air pollution and silica dust exposure for the Kincumber community...unacceptable and deadly!
15.01.2022 HyMix Concrete Kincumber is killing local citizens with unacceptable levels of silica dust emission being released into the air during windy conditions. The facility has zero containment measures in place, a failure on their part to comply with industry standard, therefore the community get to inhale this toxic and in time deadly and waste product....all because HyMix do not clean their site efficiently and wont contain their emissions and our local council fail to monitor t...heir activity in any capacity. These organisations are all too aware of the dangers of silica dust exposure....in time it will have The same impact on our respiratory system that exposure to asbestos does have.... so how exactly are they allowing this to occur every time we have windy conditions. Rest assured if you live within 200 m of this facility you are being exposed... and it will kill you...just ask the government! See more
14.01.2022 More rain means more concrete waster water going straight into the Kincumber Ceek and Brisbane Water ways. Its coming directly from the Hymix Batching plant on Cochrane Street in Kincumber 20 m away. Furthermore to this escalating problem is Central Coast Council refusal time upgrade the condition of Cochrane Street itself. After the conclusion of recent roadworks upgrades on the Empire Bay Drive and Cochran Street roundabout the traffic flow of heavy haulage vehicles and ag...itator trucks using Cochrane Street has increased significantly. The road has a surface that resembles the moon. Corrugated and potholed without any curb or guttering on the creek side. Furthermore the ancient silt fencing that had at sometime in history been erected along there to minimise the concrete contaminated surface water run-off created by these vehicles entering and exiting the facility has perished meaning all this contaminated surface water is entering the creek at various points along the road. Its a hazardous and unacceptable pollution incident that continues to go unchecked by the authorities including the EPA Who are currently still ongoing with what appears to be a never-ending investigation into the problem that as far as I am led to believe has been running for more than two years. A sample of the water has been collected for testing by the EPA who despite urging me to collect it are unable to advise me exactly how I can get it to them following my phone call report this morning. Efficiency is not a credit to them at this stage it appears. See more
14.01.2022 When the rain eases concrete contaminated waste and ground water continues to flow from the catchment space within the Hymix Kincumber facility and spews from the connected stormwater drain across the sensitive mangrove habitat and straight into the Kincumber creek tributary. It enters the Kincumber Broadwater slowly filling it in with harmful concrete sediment. Its been happening for decades and the creek has grown concerning shallow as a result. Once the weather dries you can clearly see the concrete dust and silica particles left to stain blanket and suffocate the mangrove eliminating any chance of regrowth to stabilise the banks and provide shelter and habitat to the marine ecosystem. Have no doubt that HyMix Kincumber are polluting this sensitive water way on a daily basis and it impacts the entire Brisbane water basin.
11.01.2022 They did the roadside out front of their crossovers as well.....but the entire industrial estate was just street swept last Saturday afternoon by two sweepers...I know this because that are load and they Gruen 20m from my home and they started almost as soon as HyMix closed on Saturday. This company has Been causing so much discomfort and negative impact to the adjacent community and environment that I make sure everything is monitored. One day they will be held accountableNot much gets by me
11.01.2022 Offensive noise emissions only 40 metres from homes is a daily invasion the community will never get used to. Worth noting that the maximum level allowed is 55dba. Although this is measured in dbc (low frequency) HyMix are still breaching regulation by around an average of 15dba....all day every day.
11.01.2022 Light drizzle today only yet HyMix Concrete is still managing to choke our waterways again with contaminated concrete waste water that their ineffective catchment system sees flow straight into KinCumber Creek from the plant. They profess they can cope with 20mm of rainfall at its capacity-a paltry level are best yet weve barely had 5mm and we already have this level of concrete contamination in the water. This plant cant cope with 1mm of rainfall before it sends it out int...o the environment....its absolutely criminal what they are getting away with. Every bit of loose, fine or unsecured amount of concrete waste captured inside the facility is flushed into the Central Coast Waterways each time it rains. Creating an illusion that the facility is cleaner than it truly is and at the same time polluting our sensitive mangroves habitat with hazardous and toxic concrete waste....they know but they dont care and so it continues. Its happening right now!
11.01.2022 More from august 14
10.01.2022 On any given day we can expect a queue of Agitator trucks and heavy haulage vehicles lined up outside of the Hymix Concrete Kincumber facility awaiting a fresh batch of concrete or to dump their load off. These vehicles sit and idle for sometime half an hour or more only a couple of metres from the creek behind them and less than 20m from residential homes. Anytime between 6am or 7pm this can occur and agitator trucks are often heard being cleaned with noisey high pressure eq...uipment well outside the regulated operating hours. There is not enough room inside this pokey compound to facilitate the huge volume Of heavy haulage vehicles traffic that utilise HyMix so they are forced to queue across the street and in a small unsealed parking space usually reserved for parents taking their children to the indoor sports centre or residents using the nearby Frost Oval recreation area. I have seen these vehicles frequently block commuters in as they via for the limited space available. Worth noting that regulation of the concrete batching industry stipulates that agitator trucks and heavy haulage vehicles must queue within the facility Boundary to avoid this type of impact on traffic flow and parking. It is dangerous to pedestrians and cyclist frequenting the space, noisy beyond reason for local residents, damaging to the street scape and unacceptable breach of compliance and happens on a daily basis. 10.01.2022 Heavy rains last night and this morning have resulted in another water pollution incident in Kincumber Creek with a heavy concrete contaminated flow emitted from the stormwater outlet connected to Hymix. Although we are disappointed to still be seeing several of these thick grey emissions polluting our waterways there was some Extremely well received news to arrive from the EPA prior to this report being made. After a few months of investigation, Hymix Concrete were issued w...ith a long overdue Draft Prevention Notice just this morning and given til 23rd October to respond. This is an encouraging development and already swift action is occurring with a number of personnel attending the hidden outlet this morning to take more tests of the contaminated outflow and assess the problematic site. After many years of watching the damage build in our waterways, trying to bring light to this issue and see Hymix are made accountable for this unacceptable practice this development is a welcome relief for the creek and local community. Especially as recent low tides have highlighted some significant grey concrete staining on the creek bed at the entry point of the creek. HyMix must respond by the deadline. Their response can be accessed by the public and I will certainly look forward to letting the community know what they have to say about this long term problem they have created and how they aim to remedy it...not just for Kincumber Creek but the whole of the Brisbane Water.
10.01.2022 This is what HyMix Concrete think of Central Coast waterways and sensitive local environments. Right now this is spewing out of the stormwater drain connected directly to the facility who have been killing it with high rates of production in recent weeks meaning there is a little truckload of slurry and Concrete wastewater built-up inside the facility ready for dispersion straight into the Kincumber Creek. Not only is this unacceptable its completely illegal. It is flat out ...environmental vandalism that Hymix know all about and are currently under investigation for by the EPA....Investigation that is gone for roughly 5 years so probably wont be doing anything about it any time soon. And why would you its expensive to build appropriate waste water management systems and when you are monitored by authorising bodies like the EPA and Central Coast Council Then the world is the oyster....or should that read the creek is your toilet Ford is with Robin touch any oysters that go anywhere around here unless you want to break your teeth! See more
08.01.2022 Also I’d like to get feedback or thoughts on this. This is HyMix solution to the secret stormwater outlet that is linked to their on site sump pit. The one that was set low allowing the contamination to enter the creek via this outlet. HyMix have simply dumped to s of blue metal on top of it and spread it through the bush toward the creek i assume to try and mitigate the flow of concrete sludge. We’re not sure if it is intended as a barrier, filter or just to mask the outflo...w altogether but it is certainly a mess and in stark conflict with the natural habitat. We can’t get a comment back from the EPA as to whether this was an approved application but we were certainly not notified that this was part of the solution.....either way the creek is still grey and this seems an inappropriate and inadequate band-aid attempt by HyMix that further illustrates that this company simply couldn’t care less about what they are doing to our waterways.
08.01.2022 More footage capturing even more harmful and potentially deadly concrete dust being distributed into Kincumber air space. Heavy breathing ahead.
08.01.2022 Ground and waste water pooling within the Hymix Concrete facility catchment area seeps directly into the Kincumber creek and Kincumber Broadwater system via a stormwater drain hidden in the bush along Cochrone Street. It it the same storm water drain that for decades has flushed this facilities concrete waste water and ground water into the Kinny Creek and earth HyMix Concrete a $60k fine four years ago for crimes against the environment....hasnt seemed to bother them too much though as it is still clearly occurring....lot so money in concrete batch8ng I guess. Worth noting that there are no concrete waste water deposits pooling within the Boral plant up the road nor any waste water runoff entering the tributary near the Boral Plant....,HyMix could do with some waste water management education from Boral I believe.
06.01.2022 Proving that the continuing contamination of the Creek and greater KinCumber Broadwater by the HyMix concrete Batching Plant is no isolated event are these images taken on February 6th of this year. So heavy is the concrete sediment in the creek bed here that tidal flows are now seeing contamination leech out of the creek bed itself. This is at least a bi weekly occurrence that HyMix are responsible for and should be obligated to remediate.
06.01.2022 Clear signs on Friday evening that the concrete contamination of KinCumber Creek by the nearby HyMix Concrete Batching plant is far from resolved. This has been a continuing weekly occurrence in the creek ever since HyMix were issued a prevention notice from the EPA at the end of last year. These pics were taken a day after news was released of a $23000 penalty fine was issued to HyMix from the EPA, the second of time this penalty had been handed to the and sadly is a sight seen as frequently as 2 to 3 times a week. We are yet to see any type of remediation, repair or even clean up of the creek as was ordered in the prevention notice....but we are still seeing this concrete discolouration and sediment build up. More need to be done here.
05.01.2022 HyMix Concrete KinCumber once again polluting KinCumber creek with contaminated waste water directly from their facility into the Brisbane waterway...EPA have failed to respond to correspondence this past fortnight that has highlighted a grave error in their findings that indicates that this stormwater outlet is connected to the main stormwater lines indicated on the Central Coast Council Schematic....this mistake has given Hymix a green light to continue this outrageous poll...ution of the creek. The schematic provided by CCC has no indication of this outlet with the main stormwater line being 30m away from this one. This one connects exclusively to the Hymix plant and is not mapped on any of the councils stormwater line plans. See the clear indication of concrete slurry on the mangroves....yet still no one appears to want to act on behalf of the environment under seige. Please if you care for our waterways and marine life write your complaint to the EPA. [email protected] or call 151555 This water pollution incident is occurring right now and continues every time we get rain. It has to stop and Hymix must be held accountable for this deliberate and ignorant practice.
04.01.2022 This is the concrete slurry that accumulates right outside of the Hymix Kincumber plant. Poor standards of cleanliness and containment of concrete waste within the plant allow excessive levels of concrete matter to build on the roadside of Cochrone street. It is never swept and by regulation standards should not even exit the compound. But it does in huge amounts gathers on there entrance and exit driveway crossovers waiting for windy conditions to blow it into the air we are... breathing or wet weather to wash it into our stormwater system and eventually our sensitive waterways. Both the EPA and Central Coast Council have been notifies countless times over the past 5 years. Both deny any wrong doing.....but the proof is right here and I have 5 years of recorded and documented evidence to exhibit on this page until one of these governing bodies takes this environmental and social vandalism seriously and hold a HyMix Concrete Kincumber accountable NOTE: Boral Concrete located 200m away has no sign whatsoever of concrete sediment accumulation on outside their compound. It is spotless and Boral Concrete are responsible producers of concrete who care about the local environment...HyMix Concrete are negligent cowboys chasing a buck. See more
04.01.2022 Another Water Pollution Event on the 7th August after rainfall. Concrete waste water from Hymix Concrete Kincumber entering the Kincumber Creek via their very own exclusive stormwater outlet connected to their plant...its a cheap way to manage and offload your highly damaging and toxic waste water and protect your bottom line for a company like HyMix.
03.01.2022 A terrific article today in the Coast Community News following up the $23000 fine issued by the EPA to Hymix Concrete last week in response to their investigation over the ongoing issue of concrete contaminated water captured on site at the Kincumber batching plant being released into Kincumber Creek. The spokesperson for Hymix sums up the company’s lack of consideration on this problem suggesting that the fine issued for pollution was attributed to a single event on October ...19th. With the EPA themselves stating that their investigation in to Hymix as well as their previous compliance record (not good as they were fined for the same thing in 2014) as well as their lack of voluntary mitigation efforts and improper operation of equipment installed to avoid this kind of devastating pollution events resulted in the penalties suggesting that they’ve been right into polluting the creek and a Brisbane Waterways for sometime. There is also the 2500+ photographs and video footage I have collated since 2013 clearly evidencing the weekly pollution events by Hymix that counter the company spokespersons garbage claim as well. Very much looking forward to hearing details of what they plan to do to fix this issue for good. Very difficult for Hymix to capture and contain all the contaminated water caught on site during these heavy rains....and we will be watching closely. https://coastcommunitynews.com.au//15000-epa-fine-woefull/
03.01.2022 Full on health hazard....Air Pollution.
03.01.2022 When it rains, it pollutes....at least it does when it falls within the Hymix Concrete Kincumber plant....this is the route that contaminated waste water travels flushed out of the facility and into the creek....and it is happening right now!
02.01.2022 Proof that this abhorrent contamination of Kincumber Creek is no isolated event, these images were taken on the 6th October 2018. Hymix Concrete Kincumber have been flooding our waterways for years and get away with this negligent conduct on the back of a Development Consent issued in 1986. It occurs at unfathomable levels every single time we have rain....little wonder the quality ratings of our local waterways are abysmal....I believe a HyMix not only need to be held accountable and must immediately stop this practice but they should be made to find the clean up costs of our coastal waterways in Kincumber Creek and Broadwater.
01.01.2022 Adding further concern to the issues Being created here is the SMS response I recieved from Hymix Regional manager this morning. I met with this manager and another senior manager of Hymix a few months ago on the banks of Kincumber Creek. at that meeting Hymix indicated they were aware and acknowledged the issues that we are being created and when is far is to pledge they were were working on plans to address and resolve those issues. They were noncommittal with timeframes ...or budgets or with any detail of any substance of course which led me to question the sincerity of their position I believe that has proved correct. I believe that meeting was more a response to me launching this Facebook page rather than any genuine intention to appease the problems they are creating. When I followed up Ricky yesterday with a message this was his response and it seems quite grateful that that afternoon I was witness to the deplorable act of environmental vandalism that occurred once again in the Kincumber Creek. The EPA are currently investigating hi mix concrete at Kincumber and although they were ordered to submit plans to attend to the waste water management system A few weeks back they were given the grace of a extension of time to submit that to the EPA due to the COVID-19 restrictions and its impact. Im not sure what date they are now required to submit those plans but what I can confirm is that production certainly has not slowed down at all at the Hymix plant during the COVID-19 restrictions. In fact there have been some instances that the Kincumber plant has utilised the federal governments extension of production time for industry initiative to good effect. For me personally I dont believe there is a shortage of funds to attend to their obligations and follow the rules and not damage the environment and impact to community.... there is most certainly a shortage of accountability and until the authorising bodies that regulate this type of unacceptable activity pull their finger out and do what they are responsible for It will continue to happen.
