24.01.2022 Criminals are often opportunists, and will target homes with poor home security to steal belongings. You can secure your home by taking a few simple steps which... will significantly lower the risk of your home being the target of thieves. Here are some simple steps we all can take to help protect our home. Secure your home Fit quality security doors, windows, locks, alarms, lighting and warning signs Secure all windows and doors. Activate your alarm, smoke detectors and security lighting. Lock your gates, sheds and garages. Check your home Ensure your street number is clearly visible. Keep trees and shrubs trimmed to improve visibility around your home Lock away items such as ladders, tools and gardening equipment. Don’t leave spare keys outside the home. Don’t leave valuables, mobile devices or keys (home or vehicle) in clear view. Mark valuable property and record details. When away from home Use a timer to activate an internal light or radio to give the impression someone is home. Have family, a trusted friend or neighbour check on your home. Inform them of your travel plans, park a vehicle in the driveway, collect the garbage bins and mail. Consider redirecting your mail, newspapers and deliveries. Never advertise your travel on social media sites.

03.01.2022 HAS YOUR SECURITY DOOR PASSED THE JEMMY TEST? As part of our series on the Australian Standards AS 5041 Methods of Test, today, we look at the JEMMY TEST. Th...e effects of a jemmy attack against a security screen door or window grille are simulated by wedging a standardised narrow-bladed lever, representing a large screw driver, (which is typically used in a break in), to be inserted against the locking, fastening and hinging points. A mechanical winch is applied to those points via the lever in an attempt to pry open the security door. In order to pass the Jemmy Test, the security door must remain securely closed. If your security screen door is complaint to the Australian Standards AS 5039, It will have passed the Jemmy Test as part of the Australian Standards AS 5041- Methods of Test - Security Screen Doors and Window Grilles. Dont trust your home security to just anyone, contact your local NSSA Member for advice on compliance and the right application and installation for your needs: nssa.org.au/nssacontent/nssa-member-directory Thanks to the team at Decoview - Proud NSSA Members, for providing their Jemmy Test video. Follow us on this page for a break down on each individual test over the coming weeks. #nssamember #nssa_aus #securitydoor #securityscreen #homesecurity #breakin #as5039 #as5041 #jemmytest
