06.01.2022 One freak gust of wind took yesterday evening’s controlled paddock stubble burning to major panic! Pic 5 shows the plume of smoke changing and the wind whipping up the flames and literally dumping a ball of fire in another paddock and pushing it up the hills. It was a calm, clear afternoon, we got several paddocks burnt safely and this was the last one and had almost burnt itself out because it was so still... until it wasn’t. We already had the fire truck and fire cart in t...he paddocks but it became a race against the wind to stop it. 16 trucks, countless amazing local crew members and many hours later the fire was out. Miraculously it was contained on our property and burnt away from the paddocks where livestock were. THANK YOU! A million thank you’s to EVERYONE who stopped a potential disaster from occurring. The workings of the volunteer RFS was fantastic. Special mention to our own staff who went above and beyond and just did not stop - Mick, Andrew, Jock - THANK YOU! And big thanks to Zac who had only come over for a bit of a look and lend a hand in the afternoon but hooked in and didn’t stop either. The efforts of you all are truly appreciated. Now if Hughie would deliver some of that rain that’s been forecast, but so far evaded us, that would be great. Thank you again everyone, Marty & Helen. See more
