24.01.2022 Trimming Jazzy with Ayla for my wonderful MIL Mary. Snow bear had to supervise & he's almost Jazzy's size! I'm back doing some trimming again now. So if you're a client & need me to tend to your horses (or ponies) hooves. Send me a message & I can book you in. As peoples circumstances have been affected differently during this time I am currently offering Koha payment, (what you can afford). Kind Regards Shakira

16.01.2022 Due to the current health crisis with the Corona Virus. I have decided to stop trimming & self isolate at this time. As some of you are aware, I am immune compromised & have 3 children to consider. I apologize for the inconvenience during this difficult time. Some of you have been learning to trim your own horses with me. At this time I recommend ordering a rasp, rasp handle & gloves from The Barefoot Blacksmith website. Or pull out trimming gear you may already have & conser...vatively have a go. Over the next few weeks I will make a few short videos of me giving a basic trim. I will upload these on my Facebook page Kiradon Equine Barefoot. Please feel free to call, message, send photos & ask any questions. I will reassess the situation as it evolves and consider situations individually. My best wishes are with you & your family through this pandemic. Kindest Regards, Shakira See more

Recommendations & support that will hopefully lead to a more comfortable & quality life for this loved little unicorn. Photos shared with permission.

12.01.2022 My mission this morning was getting this sweet mare as comfortable as possible. She needed me to be patient & listen to her needs but she tried hard & went from not walking to walking. Seedy toe resections, treatment & low sugar diet plan. Kindness, education, honesty.
12.01.2022 *edited to add* this is a regular venogram image that I animated with an app called pixaloop. All about that blood supply!

03.01.2022 Keeping horses in a way that resembles their natural life as much as possible is the best way to keep them fit, sound and healthy. Most of the physical and ment...al problems our domesticated horses face today are related to changes in their lifestyle and the fact that bodies -even though miraculously adapting to a lot- need hundred thousands of generations to adapt metabolism to such dramatic changes as from walking 80% of the day to 1 hour intensive exercise per day, from constantly grazing low nutrition roughage to living on high energy feed being offered twice a day and so forth. This is why I love the idea of the training paddock so much. Instead of having a property divided into nice looking (for the human eye! ) white fenced small paddocks, why not create a trail along which the horses need to move to find food and water, create different surfaces, soft, hard rocky, wet, dry, with obstacles... have 2 or 3 pasture paddocks of which one is opened for a few hours at a time whilst the other ones are rested to recover and grow, have a sand pit for the horses to roll, have the water at one end and hay stations at the other... have sunny and shady places and integrate a few small ditches and hills the horses need to negotiate and hence have low impact exercise for most of the day. I know it is a lot of work to create such a set up and you need to have some room to be able to do it, but if you can change the way your horses live, I bet you will be surprised about the changes this brings to your horses' fitness, health and attitude, muscular balance, flexibility and strength of ligaments and tendons, digestion, immune system, hoof heath.... and so forth www.sonovet-equine-therapy.com
03.01.2022 It’s days like today - warm and steamy after some rain that we need to be cautious with our horses and ponies that are susceptible to Laminitis. My little mini... Andre is extremely sensitive to high sugar grasses so he’s now off the grass on low sugar hay and hard feeds until further notice. If you’re heading away over Autumn and need care for your laminitis prone horses we can help with restricted grazing, soaking hay, hay nets & hard feeds. See more
